  1. This is just a follow up on the jack I have listed. Pic of the box may help someone decide. God Bless. Ray
  2. Purchased this cobblers tool some time ago and it remained on shelf in shop and never used, so, time for someone else to use and enjoy. It is a nice sturdy clamp, operated by use of wingnut. I suppose the jaws could be lined with leather if needed. Nice addition to anyones shop, especially if you enjoy vintage tools used in the trade. Selling for $40.00 plus postage. Not extremely heavy but have no idea what shipping would be. Would take a stab and say somewhere between $10.00 and $20.00, give or take, depending where it is going. Sure you will like this clamp and it appears never to have been abused. Email if interested. Would be possible to use in making yourself a custom stitching pony. Gos Bless. Ray
  3. Here are a few of the mallet dies I am selling at $40.00 per die. Some interesting shapes and allows you to be creative. Could not get to using them as I had hoped so, perhaps better to put them in the hands of someone able to create. Postage will be by flat rate box via postal service. Will use the small box whenever I can and they run around 12.00 per box. The larger box is @ 17.00 per box. If you purchase more than one, I will do everything I can to ship at the lowest rate possible by packing whatever I can into the flat rate box. Just email and will use time of your email as it will be first come, etc. Sure you understand. I have some basic measurements if you need them. God Bless. Ray
  4. If anybody has any interest in mallet dies, please drop me a note. Hope to get into the shop this week end to size each of them that will be sold. I may regret saying this but, I am going to let them go for $40.00 per die, plus shipping. If you cut a lot of different shapes and like to be creative, these may be something of interest. If you have any idea of rectangular, square, or round sizes that would be of interest, I can check them to see if I have what you need. They are all in what I would say, is very good shape. May be one or two at the good level. I have used a few of them in my 3 ton press and works okay. The handles could be removed if you wanted to use in clicker. Picture here is a view inside the cabinet where I have them stored, just to give an idea of what is there. God Bless. Ray

  12. Take a look at the folding tables at Sams Club. I used two of the 6' tables for a long time. Placed 1/2" plywood on top of table to make more rigid and used shellac to finish. Looked good and worked out okay. They also come in folding size of 4'. God Bless. Ray
  13. Okay, here is the scoop on the free paint. Was fortunate that someone stopped in and gave me an assist and we did a quick inventory of the paints.348---2 ounce bottles 15---8 ounce bottles 5---4 ounce bottles 1---1oz bottle of pearl 3---4 ounce art deco texture 3---16 ounce of dry powder paint We packed 74 bottles into a large Priority Flat Rate Postal Box and it would require 7 total boxes at the rate of $16.85 PER BOX. In my opinion, that is an excessive amount of postage but if you want them shipped let me know. I have no idea what a single large box would be via UPS but feel it would be considerably less expensive than the flat rate boxes of the postal service. I am not able to pack them in a single box and take to the UPS Store to check the cost soooooooooooo, unless you want to commit to whatever they may charge, I will have someone do that for me. Let me know if interested. The postal rate was quite a shocker. Had no idea that the flat rate boxes had become so expensive to use. I thank all of you that have expressed an interest in the paint. God Bless. Ray
  14. Hello PPSTONER, Press would be a fine way to use for leather but physical limitations now getting in my way. Taken on more than I can handle. Good for others to carry on. Hopefully, someone on the site will be able to purchase the items and put them to good use. God Bless. Ray
  15. This is an interesting use of tools that are common in my shop. Never considered using pyrography for sealing edges but easy to see how could be done. There are many pyrography burners available, and very reasonable handpieces/tips that will do the same thing. I also have a digital temp. control solder station that I did not get to use much and have packed away, that would also perfom well in this area. You could go to any of the pyrography sites and view the different machine or simply do a search for pyrography tools. The basic pyrography pens, which are very inexpensive, would also work but care would have to be used as they would not be temperature controlled. Take a look at the basic tools and tips as offered at Walnut Hollow, to give you some idea of the tools available. There are controllers made for the basic pens as well, but no idea who is making them today. Will have to try this myself, as it seems to do a very nice job on edging. God Bless. Ray

  23. All of the reasons to collect tools are valid. How could anyone get enough? I have tools in places I can no longer find, sooooooooo, I must buy another to take the place of the one that is temporarily lost. Stands to reason that we must do this quite often and as we age, we have more of a valid excuse for the illness. Never mislaid, just put safely away until I find it again. Have to keep things secure and placed where they won't become damaged. I have many tools that are still in original packaging, never used because I put them away in such a secure manner that I have not stumbled upon them for some time. Many days are like discovering a hidden treasure, when I do locate those hidden items. Makes life a bit more exciting. Some folks go treasure hunting but all I have to do is open some cabinet that I have not been near for awhile and I find "treasure" therin. When you do things in this manner, no excuse is needed when you want to purchase another "special" tool that you just have to have. I even have a few that came in lots I purchased that I don't know what they do but they are, "neat", and needed, someplace I haven't discovered yet. Bet I'm not the only one that operates in this manner. ckl. God Bless Y'All. Ray
  24. Hello Redtailhawk, I have had similar problems with old leather in the past. What I say here is something that worked for me and can, in no way, say that it will be worthwhile for you to try. The pieces that I worked with were probably smaller than that which you are working with now. The leather was dyed and extremely stiff and after cleaning, as you did, it got no better. As these were my own items, I did not have to be concerned with the outcome so I decided this was a good time to experiment. I had a difficult time getting the leather to absorb water so, I placed a spoon full of dawn detergent into a container and filled with very warm water. Immersed the piece for several hours, removed and found that it had softened a bit but not good enough to work with. I removed excess moisture and before it was completely dry, I began applying a bit of neats foot oil. Not the neatest way to do things but gradually I began to notice a bit more flex in the leather. Worked at it for some time but never achieved results I wanted. Put it aside and went on to other projects. Returned sometime later and applied balm and other softeners and eventually was able to work the leather around without cracking. It was a long drawn out process for me but I had nothing better to do. As I said, I cannot advise or predict the outcome if you were to try this but just some food for thought. I imagine that there are plenty of folks on the site that have much better ideas as how to proceed, and know of products that will assist. Good luck and god Bless. Ray
  25. Wow, it is great to see that so many leatherworkers are into computer thing as well. I feel elated when I can get my email opened. lol. I love technology but want to be one of those that sits at the machine, tells it what to do and it does it. ckl. I have made, over the years, as far back as the TRS-80 Radio Shack computer, a valid effort to read articles and back then it was not very difficult. All of a sudden the computer thing exploded and zipped right on by this codger. Purchased several web site building programs, purchased domain names and could never get it put together. Still have some around here and like a foolish old man, which I am, I purchased another web builder program. It sits alone in the corner. Description said something like, build your site in couple of hours and have online today. HUH??????? ckl. Didn't work for me. The lingo is beyond my understanding anymore. No idea what they are talking about when I read the articles. One thing I did learn. When I am having difficulty sleeping, nearly every night, all I have to do is begin reading one of the books about web publishing or other computer topics, and, lo and behold, I become very weary and find that sleep comes easy. Suppose I could give the developers a plug along those lines. ckl. Better than a sleeping pill. All in good fun and one of lifes adventures. Someday soon, I will be boxing all of those programs and getting rid of them. Keep watching. God Bless everyone. Ray
