Hello Tex Shooter, Having returned to the leather crafting, I hope that all goes well and you have a grand time. I am aware of the "getting old" thing and I think that makes things more of a pleasant experience than when we were teaching the world how smart we were at 22. lol. Drop a line anytime. God Bless. Ray

How Hot Can Leather Get Without Damage?
raysouth replied to TomBanwell's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Hello Tom, I probably will not be able to answer your question about high temp. for leather storage but can offer somer info. @ my experience her in the deep south. Rather humid here and plenty hot in summer. My leather is stored in my workshop, rolled up with some in boxes, (open ended), and other rolls exposed. Been this way for several years now and have experienced no problems. Initially thought I might develop some mildew problems but nada and I am pleased. Shop where leather is stored is not air conditioned and has 12' ceilings but can become somewhat uncomfortable at times. My work area at front of shop is with a/c which allows me to wok comfortably. Hope someone can answer your question better than I. God Bless. Ray -
Hello David, I purchased one from friend at Biringham, Al. Tandy Store. I believe he had a couple of different styles/priced units. His name is Chance, should you care to contact him at the store. Hope this helps. God Bless. Ray

Wishing the best of "Memories" for everyone. A time to recall those wonderful moments in our life, shared with those we loved and enjoyed throughout the years. A time to remember all of those so far away that "Memories", are as close as we may come to them. God has given us the ability to remember those good times spent with good folks, in good places, and to cast aside the less than pleasant periods we have all faced. We must use our time wisely and enjoy our life, while sharing the experience with those for whom we care so much. GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND MAY YOUR DAY OF MEMORIES BE FILLED WITH WONDER. Ray

Patent Infringement: Shotgun Concho Dog Collar
raysouth replied to HellcatLeathers's topic in Patterns and Templates
WOW !!!! Who opened this guys door? His design is much different than would be if one used the conchos, riveted tyrpe or screw back, and is plain if you take a look at the sketch. His apparently are something that appears to be the same size as the shell concho. Also, it does not appear that he fully described the sewing, attaching methods in the description. If his is sewn and someone does the same, does that mean that anyone making a dog collar that is sewn is in violation of his patent? ALL A BUNCH OF HOOKEY, I BELIEVE. Either that or some additional education would be of value. Keep up what you are doing and let him hire someone to pursue the issue. Wish these types didn't exist but more seem to crawl out of the worm hole every day. lol.\\ God Bless. -
Is Anyone Really Satisfied With Their Work?
raysouth replied to shooter55's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Hey Shooter, You can sign me up and sure I will meet others I know. lol. Perfection? Hmmmmmmmm--------- No idea what that might be. The items I fab are just simple things I, or others, dream up and they are what they are, I suppose. At this stage of the game, I simply attempt to make others smile and appreciate what we all do. If a person can understand that every pair of hands, every mind, and idea, may be a bit different, I don't think there will be any problems. Don't abuse yourself by being super critical. You are very talented and you probably see things in your work that others would never see. All in the eye of the beholder, to coin a cliche. Just do the best you can do, as you always do, and all will be well. I promise, I will never complain about anything you turn out. lol. Really, I do understand and at my very advanced age, I no longer burden myself with self critisism. I am what I am, as you are what you are, and we are blessed to be here and able to make things for ourself and others. Please, I do not intend this to be a sermon so will cut it short and simply say that you are much appreciated and God Bless. Ray -

Hallo Junge, You are very talented and enjoyed the pieces you have displayed. Very nice. I spend most of my time making things out of junk leather and scraps. It is pleasant and unlimited for an active imagination. Never made any barettes and no idea if they would be an item of interest around here but will have to give it a shot. Couple of the redneck coots that visit now and then, call me the keyfob king. I make them out of any shape and in all sizes, different hardware and constantly dreaming up more. Made a few steam punk larger fobs and one of my amigos wanted to know what steam punk was. HUH? How was I supposed to know all that. I just make the stuff. ckl. Great fun shall never cease. Auf Wiedersehen, Gott sei mitt Uns. Ray

Howdy All, Several times while browsing the net I have come upon a product called; LEATHER HONEY. Anybody have any experience using this product and if so, what were the results ? Interesting product information on their site, www.leatherhoney.com but looking at their list of vendors, I didn't notice any of the many suppliers that I have used. Product is a bit pricey, but may be warranted. Would appreciate any and all input. God Bless. Ray

Thank you, Bruce. It is interesting to know that the craft is recognized and items preserved for others to enjoy in the future. Might be an interesting proposition for someone with a desire to open a small museum, housing items made by various folks as we see here on the site. Plenty of talent and should be a place to see the varied items that can be made. Sure that there are many folks that would love to display their craft in a museum setting. Each time I search and surf the net, I find another creative item of leather that someone has developed. There is no limit to the creative ability of folks. Regardless of length of life, there is always something new to see around the next bend. Hope there is the desire to develop such a museum for all of the varied leathercrafts we see today. Amazing stuff------ God Bless. Ray

Howdy all, Wondering if there are any leathercraft museums and thought some of you may know of one or more. Never run upon one so curious if a bonafide museum exists, dedicated to leathercraft. God Bless. Ray

Hello Cascabel, I am probably not the best person to answer this question but can relate what I have learned along the way. I had purchased one of thos you listed and it is a great machine, even though I was never able to use it. All of them seem to be made in China and have different brand names but appear to be, basically identical machines. The various agents have some different attachments and hardware that seems to be unique to their brand of the machine, which may be good marketing tool. I have spoken with most of the companies while I was in search mode and all were extremely able and willing to assist. Sure you would find the same results today. If thinking of making a machine purchase, I would suggest calling them and discussing your needs and obtain all of the information available from them. They are very eager to assist new machine users. Hope this gives you some idea of what I have learned and perhaps other may have different suggestions or opinions. God Bless. Ray

Hello Duke, A number of small splitters on eBay that may do what you need. As for Leather Machine Company's tools I can only say that everyone seems to find them to be a good company to deal with and the products are well made. Sure that Steve can be of assistance. Give him a call and he can probably help your needs. God Bless. Ray

Howdy All, Wondering if anyone would have input about rivet/spot setters that are reasonably current, have available dies and resonably priced? Have looked at several on eBay and they all seem to be of Chinese origin and a bit pricey, I believe. I would like to think that there is a multi-purpose setter available, along with a good selection of dies for various applications. Using the hammer is becoming a bit more difficult and thought I would seek something to alleviate the pounding. Would appreciate any advice, assistance along these lines. Might save me from making another foolish mistake. lol. Gent from China has one on eBay; item number 400296431001, a KAM JO950 but again, no reviews or advice from anyone having purchased or used this unit. God Bless. Ray
