Howdy Amigo, The question you are asking here can open a can of worms. There are so many different types of stamping/riveting machines and most seem to be a bit on the expensive side when you add the cost of the dies. Tandy has a unit that will stamp belts and easy to use to set rivets as well. Take a look at Stecks Store and look at the one they sell @ 469.00, also listed on eBay. I purchased such a unit but never able to place it in use due to my physical limitations these days. Most you will find will do a decent job but do some real searching before you make a purchase as prices vary greatly. Good luck and ask anything that you need info about as folks here will lend a hand. God Bless. Ray

Hello Jimestes, and welcome to the site. The tools are a very nice collection and one that many folks would enjoy. It was especially interesting for me as I noticed a couple of tools that seem to be very similar to a tools used by a Mexican Leatherworker that went bu the name "Flores". I have a piece of his work and have been digging around to find one of the tools he used. At least now, I know some of them are still around. Thanks for showing the tools and God Bless. Ray

Marble is a softer material than the granite most folks seem to use. As for thickness, it seems that a minimum of 1" to ??? Some use the cutouts from counter fabricators and have even heard of folks using cemetery headstone material. Hope this is of use. God Bless. Ray

Hello Steve, Another way I have seen this done, is a very thin plastic binder is used as a base and then covered with leather of your choice. You can use nearly any thickness/weight leather you desire and tool or burn your designs as you wish them to appear, naturally done before adhering to the binder. The last binder I saw was very flexible, using this method with lightweight veg tan and was beautifully carved. Saves the problem of attachment for the binder ring strip and makes a nice binder cover as well. Hope this helps. God Bless. Ray

What Is A Fair Price For Old Craftool Stamps
raysouth replied to rlpullman's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I have seen the tools priced beyond the stars but with a bit of digging, learned that just some folks look at them as being solid gold and others down to reasonable prices. Nick, I have never been fortunate enough to find any for a buck so you have done well. I also have more than I would ever need and have contemplated selling all of my hand stamping tools as pounding is becoming difficult for me. Many of mine were purchased at prices I should not have paid but when you want something and only find one, you go for it. I have always felt that the tools should, when being sold as used, be in the 5-10 range, a few less and a few even more. Just something between buyer and seller, I suppose. God Bless. Ray
