Oh My! The sculptural aspects of this are totally amazing. Thanks for sharing.
  2. Thanks for the reply, Chris. I love the deep black you are getting with this application. To pursue this farther, have you or possibly anyone else, tried the waterstains with the typical Sheridan style finishing, with the supersheen resist and then applying the stain?
  3. This is gorgeous!. Did you use rods to stiffen the top edges?
  4. I have been playing around, trying to learn, reading this forum religiously and thought it was probably time I posted one of my efforts. I bought a big box of scraps from Tandy and this was one of my trial pieces. I did a lot of things wrong, so this was a great learning experience. My backgrounding needs a lot of work. But I am pleased that it is at least wearable.
  5. Has anyone tried these waterstains with items with a lot of tooling or with a Sheridan style finishing? The Tandy video only shows these used in an all over colour application. Also has anyone used them for a painted application? If so, I would love to hear your thoughts on them. thanks.
  6. Well, first off I have to say I really don't like snakes. In fact, they give me the creeps. My son in law has had some for years and still doesn't understand my aversion. That said, you did a really good job with the impression of the snake coming out towards the viewer. It is really well done and I think your mom will love it. Me, not so much but I appreciate the skill that went into the carving. Bet you will have some commissions from your mom's snaky friends. lol
  7. [ I haven't commmented before but I have to say I look forward to your posts. You do some seriously gorgeous leather. And have a blessed and happy Easter.
  8. I think it must not have been all the way onto the cutting edge. That's all I can think of that would allow it to work.
  9. Thanks. I didn't know if it was important. I have stropped it and it seems to be much better.
  10. I have a Tandy keen edge beveler size 2. The red plastic coating? on the tip part has come off. Is that plasic dohickey important for the tool to work properly as my edges now seem to be uneven?
  11. Breathing is good. lol This is the press I have. https://www.osbornel...gory.php?cid=40 Similar in function to the one you ordered, with a different handle configuration. The one thing I do everytime though, is make sure the cap and socket section I intend on using snaps together before I try and set it. Some of them can be off and I figure checking that before I set the snap saves a ton of aggravation.
  12. . I don't have that particular press, I have the Osborne one. I know of others who have the Tandy press for grommets and they like it. I just got the dies to do line 20 and 24 snaps with the Osborne press. I am not having a problem with the Tandy snaps with this setup. I had a lot of trouble with them with the hand held setters, they seem to work fine in the press. So I would imagine that you will see a great improvement with your new tool.Let us know how you make out.
  13. very nice and I really like your work in progress shots. It's great to see how your projects develop.
  14. My dh gets a little hyper about it too. LOL I think the kiln bothers him less than when I was torch firing . Unfortunately I am not doing much with it now that the price of silver has gone sky high. I may have to finally bite the bullet and learn to work with the base metal clays. Their firings are more finicky though so I have been dragging my feet .The bronze would probably make great accents for leather though. Hmmmmm.......
  15. Actually, that has not been my experience but I tend to use Art Clay Silver. I think it is a little brighter in colour. Both are rated at .999 FS when fired, so there can't be too much of anything left after firing. It does take some work for a mirror finish but I have seen some fabulous pieces done with that finish. Personally, I like a more organic look so haven't done much of that type of work. But the ability to mold and sculpt gives it a lot of design possibilities.
  16. Very, very nice and I can't imagine the time it took to get that applique just right. Did you use PMC for the snaps? And I am going to be really bold and ask if there is a chance you could add the zipper pocket in the inards to your tutorial:begging: Rosemary
  17. Which version of the mop n glow product are you using? There seem to be a couple. Has anyone tried future floor finish and how has that worked? (Sorry dfd, I didn't mean to highjack your thread.) Rosemary
  18. http://www.ofrei.com/page281.html Hopefully the link works. :-)
  19. Am I missing something? The clasps seem to run$4-10 when I checked the link.
  20. Really nice! Can I ask how deep it is, it's kinda hard to tell.
  21. Ya, I hear you. I first damaged it about 15 years ago , it eventually got better but it started acting up again in the last year and a half . I do end up resting the elbow on the table a lot, that`s why I wondered if the angle of the tapered maul would be better.
