  1. That's what I use as well. Haven't had any major issues with it. I usually use a utility knife with the snap off blades and use a fresh blade for every one or two cuts.
  2. Sorry Terry, people have opinions and I believe everyone is entitled to theirs. Personally, I wasn't being negative, just making an observation. I think we all appreciate the hard work that goes into making this great site what it is. Some people just don't like change and they're just voicing their concerns, not beating up on the people upgrading the site. Excellent! Thanks Kevin, I must need glasses...wait, I do, I'm just old and forget to wear them lol.
  3. PS...is there a "Mark Forums Read" button somehwere when you "View New Content"? I'm probably looking right at it without seeing it. Thanks.
  4. Wow, had a big storm the other day and my internet is out for a while and I come back to a shocker lol. I like this site and the people regardless what it looks like, but my first thought was; I think the old brown look looked more leather-ish. The blue is kinda generic like 3 or 4 other sites I frequent. The old look was more unique and unlike any other sites I read regularly. No offence intended, just an honest observation. On the other hand the blue has a new and fresher feel to it. Other than that, great work on the new stuff. Much gratitude for a great forum and all the hard work on the updates.
  5. Personally, and this is just my opinion, I don't sell anything I make wholesale. I am a dealer myself, mainly antiques, so I completely understand other dealers' and shops positions on needing to profit from what they buy. Rule of thumb as a dealer, you need to buy at half price to turn a profit, especially selling online with all the fees. I try and price my leather work at a reasonable retail price, and if I sold it wholesale it wouldn't be worth the time or materials to make it. Selling on consignment is almost as bad. If you inflate your price so you make a profit after paying the consignment fee, you may be overcharging and you won't sell anything. That said, I don't make holsters, so maybe I'm completely wrong about this. There's also people that figure if they make enough to cover materials they're happy. So maybe I'm totally off base on this.
  6. If I could have anything, I'd ask for a 4" thick granite work surface covering the entire table. The bench I have now has a shelf underneath which is very convenient, but I wish I had more drawers. I also have a short bookshelf that's about a foot taller than my bench behind it so it's like having a shelf in front of me...very nice option, but with only 2 1/2 feet to work with you'd have to consider if it would take away too much workspace. Nice wedding gift.
  7. May I ask where you are based out of? Thanks
  8. Omg they are so nice. THAT'S what customer service used to be like in the good old days . Thanks again for their number. Can't wait for the catalog!
  9. Thank you so much! I'll be sure to call them tomorrow.
  10. I need a supplier for nickel plated 1 1/4 inch square eye snap hooks. I have used a supplier in the past that has very nice quality hardware but the biggest size snap hook of this type they have is 1 inch. I tried ordering from a new supplier, but the stuff they sent me was disappointing to say the least and I can't in good conscience sell something with materials I'm not happy with. It's so hard to tell from a picture what something like this will look like in hand, so I thought maybe someone could recommend a supplier they know has good quality hardware and save me some angst and money. Thanks.
  11. I set a 2 inch screw with a wide head about a half an inch into the end of a 1 X 6 cut down to 2 feet long.
  12. Just curious, is this stuff still for sale? I was going to buy some of the stuff you're selling, but I was waiting to hear from you before I bought it new. It's been about a week and haven't heard back.
  13. This is 3-4 oz leather so the stamping is shallow. The letters are darker on 6-7 oz leather.
  14. That's kind of what I thought you meant. I do this all the time. You don't really have to do any blocking if I understand you right. Smear on the dye, then like HJ said, wipe with a paper towel that's folded flat so it doesn't hit the bottom of the letters. Don't push at all, just swipe over the surface. The dye should be left sort of pooled, for lack of a better word, at the bottom of the letters.
  15. I pm'ed you also. Is this stuff still for sale, sold, or did you change your mind? Lol. Could really use a few of the tools if you still want to sell them. Thanks.
  16. The only way I know to do this is to use a blocker like super sheen painted over the part you want lighter and it should stay the color of the leather. I know it works with stains but haven't tried it with Dye yet. Hope this helps. Edit: actually I think I misunderstood the question, so I'm changing my answer to either a. I don't know or b. I don't understand the question.
  17. I know someone who has one of those Honda ones Itch linked and he loves it. It's small but he uses it in an emergency when his power goes out at his house and he uses it on his boat. He said there's also a larger gas tank accessory you can get for it so it'll run longer on a tank and it's easy to move. I just got something similar to the one Ferg described for our house since when the power goes out here, it goes out for a while. But it weighs almost 300 pounds so even with the wheels and handles it's not practical for moving very far except out of the garage and into the garage. For what you describe using it for, I'd go with the Honda if I was you.
  18. I know people re purpose lots of things for the leather like old handbags and jackets so why not couches? I think it's a great idea.
  19. Ken, I use the wood one a lot but have the cheap Tandy one. What's the name of the good one? I'd like to keep a look out and maybe pick one up. The Tandy one has held up ok but it's kind of flimsy imo.
