Very nice, python looks great and very neat work. Cheryl
-
No, just wanted to see the python wallet, but not someone's website. Put some pics up for him Russ if you think I was harsh and I'll be glad to look. Cheryl

Speaking of yourself in the third person and leaving links to your website always seems very odd to me. However, learning to push the 'attach files' button doesn't seem very hard at all to me. I'll have a look when you put some photos here on LWs. Cheryl

Throw down the gauntlet and maybe I won't do so poorly on picking it up this time, Cheryl

Anywhere but Tandy. I buy my hardware from Springfield leather co. (at top of page on forum) and I put brass on a messenger bag I made over a year ago and even bleached the tops to age them some and they are fine still. Cheryl

Sadly if you agree buy American at Tandy most of their things aren't. Just the storefronts, which is better I guess than actually buying from China. But Glendon is right, it's the walmart of leather. Cheryl

Beautiful, your braiding is so beautiful. Cheryl

What kind of machine do you have? Because even my antique singers will handle 3/4oz. I don't know why you'd want to use a 'cheaper' leather to make yourself a wallet? I made one once out of bison calf that was both supple and firm, but that's expensive leather. I can't think of anything else you could use right off hand. Let me know what you come up with, Cheryl
Sorry, didn't answer your one question, pretty sure that is veg tanned.

Really nice. Cheryl

I just bought my second bag of those, I use them to make bookmarks mostly, or sometimes an overlay on a bracelet. I love those bags, like a Christmas surprise. You did a beautiful job. Cheryl

Wiz I wanted to ask you about wax pots and oil pans and such? Is this something I'm going to be able to figure out?
-
Thanks Wiz. I know nothing about the industrial machines. I've never even seen a walking foot in person. I'm glad to hear that about jackets because I already have a job to put some patches on a jacket and repair a seam. I asked them to wait until the machine came. I am pretty excited. Thanks again for the info Wiz. Cheryl

Can't tell you much about it, was hoping for some information here. I don't have a picture OR model number but know it was made in 1941 to sew tents in the army. It has a long throat, I think the guy said 19". Can you guys give me some ideas of what I might be getting? He traded up for a new Cowboy or Cobra, something like that at Sheridan. Used it for 2 years before that. He is a prolific LW and turns out nice products everyday so I'm pretty sure it will be a nice machine although old. He said speed wasn't any problem but I imagine it has a clutch instead of a servo, although I'm not sure. I know you all probably think I'm crazy since I know so little but between his LW and ranch work, he is really hard to track down at times. Any ideas on what the learning curve will be after my old singers, and things I should know about old walking foot machines? Thanks, Cheryl

Beautiful bench, really nice. Too bad you're using the Pfaff as a door stop though. These old machines do well with light weight leathers, and make nice wallet interiors and such. Cheryl
I edited this to say I'm getting a consew walking foot
I figured out that they won't handle every job too.

TLW I am redoing a director chair for a customer and I called SLC and told them the exact dimensions of HO I wanted and they cut it for me. So it's straight on all four sides and I just have to do the trimming now. They are a great company to work with. This is veg tanned leather I bought. Cheryl

Very beautiful work on all of it, Cheryl

Just a piece of seran wrap should do to cover it, don't have to keep it i n the bag. Cheryl

Depends on whether it has dried out. I would just wet it from behind with a sponge and let it leech all over in the fridge overnight. I wouldn't soak it, it will make the tooling you've done already look wonky. Cheryl
-
Either way would work and you could use lace if you wrapped them. I would do either way on the under side where the crease of the fingers fit over them. Cheryl

I know some people leave the plastic on the part they aren't working on until they get to it. I don't know what you make so not sure this will work for you. Cheryl

Too true. Sorry Faire I am going to try and work on my mocs today. I got some black elk to make them out of and then I'm going to sew the hair on hide to them afterward. I have other things I should be doing but I actually want the shoes and would make a great statement at the farmer's market. I'll try to post some pics later of the WIP. C'mon folks let's get going!
