Well that's a good point. I think it would definitely hurt

Reg I think you did an incredible job on whipping this up, and I'm so glad you decided to join us. My only suggestion would be to leave the drops off the back wall because I'm not exactly sure what they are, lol. I think you did an excellent job on perspective and can't wait to see it finished. Cheryl

As usual your work looks absolutely perfect to me. Cheryl

Kingdomino: just join in when you have time for it. I will maybe not have time to work on my stuff until the weekend. So no hurry here. As far as I understood Cheryl everything should be easy going in this contest
RaeNae: I like your design very much. One suggestion you may want to try out is to lift the segmented part a little by cutting that part loose with an exacto knife in a very flat angle. (not the whole thing only a little bit) then you can lift that part with a modeling spoon.
I'm interested in our other design too. Maybe you can send me a pm with pic or pst it in the adult section.

So here is what I did so far... Sketch is carved and beveled. I lready made an mistake. The center line between the front and back part of the grave stone shouldn't have been carved. I don't like how it looks now, but I won't start new, cause I can't afford to toss that much leather into the bin.
I will do some detail work at the hand, lift certain parts of it. At the bottom end of the arm, I will add some more lines to make it look more disturbed as suggested by Cheryl.
I will use a matter around hand, gravestone and moon/cloud to make it more 3d. The earth will get some detail with modeeling spoon more or less the same as the carved lines but only modeled.
Two ting I still have to find a decisions is how to texture the stone, because it looks so empty and wether I should add a silhouette of a bat in the upper left corner which looks empty too.
Have a nice evening
Jonathan
Jonathan I love your piece and think it turned out awesome. I don't think the line of the stone looks like a mistake. In answer to your questions I have some ideas and hope the one for the stone works. The bat is a matter of preference and I wouldn't add it because to me nature is seldom symmetric, but it won't ruin the picture.
I was trying to think about how gravestones look. They aren't really marbled, but they do have a texture to them, some kinda rough. If I was going to try and get that look I would use a pear shader sparingly to make some places darker that others like a stone is. Also the smaller the better. You don't want it too busy I don't think. Also you mentioned your spoon so maybe that would work even better to indicate some texture.
It's an awesome piece. Cheryl

I just stumbled upon this thread today and would like to participate as well. Never done any leather work like this before.(and may not again)...but I've always had a love for whales.
Getting a late start might keep me from finishing by the end of the month, but I hope to learn some things in the process regardless.
And obviously...I don't know how to post a pic either
Hi Harley. We would love to have you participate. I went to the blog, downloaded the image itself and putting it up here for you. When you want to post a picture just click the 'more reply options' at the bottom of the post. Welcome 'aboard' LOL. Beautiful sketch. Cheryl

Hi Celtic, I have lightingale coming to look right now. I'd be more than happy to help. Cheryl

I saw this yesterday and really liked it. I hope you're still going to do your woman too. Also Rae, is it just me or does this make more sense if you turn it on it's side? LOL. Cheryl

thanks Jonathan. I'm going to try and start it on leather later today after I get my lacing holes done. If you want to see the pic that was removed stop by chat and rae nae will show you. Cheryl

No you are right Jonathan I think. I'm learning more about this as we go. Actually you might just be able to do some of the lines I drew without a 'crater' and make them flatter than mine. Just to indicate the earth was disturbed. I'm sorry you had a bad day yesterday Jonathan. I know whatever you do is going to turn out nice because your sketch was excellent. Don't forget some pics of WIP here. I intend to do that when I finally quit revising my picture

Jonathan your hand is excellent. I didn't know you were going to do a fleshed hand and those are the hardest things to draw I've been told. I've never done one. Where it's coming through doesn't look like the dirt is disturbed enough. It seems like it should be more like a crater around the arm. Like a snake hole, or groundhog hole where it's wider at the rim and the earth is higher there and then it can be matted inside the rim to make it darker there on the 'off side' where we can see inside. I hope this is making sense to you because I'm not sure it is to me
I'm still revising so I could be wrong. I'm going to draw a quick sketch like this to see what it looks like. Cheryl

Mikey, that is sweet! I'm glad to see one of your beautiful pieces have a use. Cheryl

I've never had any art training Q so the lesson I'm trying to share here is also one I'm trying to learn. I appreciate the feedback from you both on details that should have been obvious but weren't to me. I like both your ideas and think they would be perfect for this. Have you drawn either yet to see which one you like on paper? If so please share them with us. Cheryl

hi Mairi, good eye!!!! I used this image on the internet to free hand the cat
and I had it bookmarked so I just went back and looked and you're absolutely right. The narrowing is there at the tip and I didn't notice it when I was drawing it. You guys are really teaching ME a lot about perspective! Thanks for your feedback. Cheryl.

I routinely use Chicago screws after finding the rivets I had didn't stay in place. I haven't put threadlock on mine in the past but it's definitely something I will try from now on. Cheryl

Q you are so right and I don't know how I missed this with all the revisions. It would never go back into place as long as I have the tears. Looks like I need another revision before getting it on leather. Thanks so much. Cheryl

Hi Mr. Lentz. I can help you as far as the sewing. They took two pieces of leather, the tallest piece for bills and another piece cut to length and width. Then they used seam tape or glue to fold the edges over before sewing. And the tallest wallet piece was glued in place behind the one fold or seam tape used as well. Then they machine sewed both edges keeping the folds and the second bill piece in place. Logo, I'm not sure about.

Yeah I switched it to a cougar because a bob cat wouldn't be big enough....maybe I should take some creative license and switch it back. At least then maybe it would be perceived as a predator running the horse through the leather? Thanks Q for the feedback. Cheryl

Jonathan I love the idea of sandpaper. You're thinking much faster outside the box than I am and I can't wait to see it. Hurry up ok? LOL.Cheryl
