  1. I agree Clair, I saw a poster once who thinking he was showing gratitude posted his website and proudly said a lot of the designs came from here. I too am opposed to such things. But when I put my things on, lowly though they may be, I try and explain how I did it so others might wish to improve and make the design their own. Cheryl

  2. I've been working on this for a couple of weeks because of some design flaws I fixed along the way. I saw one similar on here, listened to what he said about what he wish he'd done, and tried to incorporate those things. The only thing I did I'm ashamed of was stamping the tree when the leather was too wet, I know better than that :( The other things were just stuff you'd expect to run into with a prototype I guess. The window where I sewed it ended up too big for the playbook, so I added the lace. The only lace I had was 1/4th" and it was too big for that space and ripped some holes in the 3oz leather, which is why one side looks different. If I make one for a customer I will clear up the design issues but just for me it came out ok. I would use heavier leather the next time so I didn't have to double the flap to hold the tablet up, and sew the window in closer so it would hold it more evenly, etc. The holes on the side allow you to plug it in without removing it on one side and turn it on on the other.

  3. Hi CT. I use 7-8oz on all my straps, and then line them and put foam on them. I've used suede before to line with and never had any trouble with them being stiff. However, I use bag balm on mine after all the dye, finish etc. and work that into the leather for probably 1/2 hour and let it soak in over night. I get a nice drape out of them using this method. Cheryl

  4. I recently bought a stitching punch to speed things up although I have three old cast iron Singers and any of them would probably have worked without thread. Actually I'm hand sewing a project now and left my punch and good awl at work so I think I'm going to try that on a project I'm currently working on and see if it works. I'll let you know if it does because these old Singers can be had for a song if you don't need anything but the flywheel and needle assembly to work. Cheryl

  5. Hi Jax. I just use the parks method when I take the time :) Other times I just get the leather really wet (not soping though) with a sponge and let it get back to an almost natural color before I start anything with it. You can tell if it's ready usually because the leather will be really cold where as plain dry leather isn't. I don't use all the other things in mine but I don't carve a lot so might want to try some of those ideas.

When you put it in the fridge overnight that just allows for the water to soak throughout the leather more evenly. Cheryl
