  1. thank you to mrtruckguy for the shout out. I also make custom stamps and plates beyond the makers stamp. Drop me a line if you need anything. -=Nick
  2. I have always been happy with Leather Balm. Basically, it is carnuba wax. It gives a soft luster and good water protection. Pretty much don't care for any of the eco-foo foo water based products.
  3. they should warranty it, so just ask them to replace it.
  4. It usually raises the presser foot
  5. I just made my subcripton payment to LW! I hope everyone else remembers the website for Christmas too.

  6. Fortunately, I have a heated and A/C cooled shop. Still, in the winter I wear jeans, comfortable shoes (lot of sheepswool padding) and a long sleeve shirt when I can, otherwise a warm pullover sweater. During the summer, I like to wear scrubs in the shop.
  7. Hi Radar67, I use derin (acetel) which is a very hard plastic originally made by Dupont. This stuff is quite hard and can be machined. Fortunately, it is laser engravable too. Cheers!
  8. Any shoe repair guy in the springs should be able to set that.
  9. well I do custom stamps to your specifications too. Just PM me on what you need.
  10. Here is the newest stamp I have done. It is after a wallet I did for a buddy. Here is the link for it as well.

    Ivan Tools?

I belive Ivan is the maker for Tandy. You can find thier link here.
  12. Sorry, but the green can is what they carry now. The red can clearly read "Barge" on it. The green can stuff is definitely different. The fumes from the barge made stuff killed me. This stuff has a completely different smell so it's definitely been reformulated and it doesn't bother me. The red can has been discontinued for over a year so it's doubtful anyone has any left.
  13. Thanks Billy! I too can make custom stamps. They are in delrin and you use a hefty handle to use it or an arbor press. I can do large plates too. You can check me out at: http://www.lasered-stamps.com or I also have a standard makers mark on eBay. -Nick
  14. Thanks for the tips! getting more comfortable with the guage. I can see why Bruce once said 'you'd never use anything else again".
  15. Let me add one more positive report: I've got an old Dixon plough guage that I've never been able to use well. In part because the blade was shot and because I couldn't sharpen it worth a darn in the first place. I got one of Terry Knipshield's knives and after cleaning and a quick strop I tried it out. If fit like a glove in the guage. The first piece of test leather I used was rather spongy so it went off track a little but it was my error in how I pulled the strap thru. One adjustment later and everything cut like butter! I just got a couple of custom belt orders and JUST NOW used the guage to cut the straps out of some 9/10 oz sides. Totally, 100% satisfied. It cuts extremely well. I just hope I can sharpen it up correctly when the time comes. In the meantime, a quick strop before cutting will do. Thanks again Knipper!
  16. Yeah, but it probably won't stamp on that type of material. (P.S. The Not made in China is mine).
  17. Any one else notice TLF didn't put a 50% off any one item in this years BF sale? I'm sure they will drop you one price level.
  18. Most likely it was Charlie Davenport who did the sample. He was in charge of all the new kits. That being the case, he is only going to use TLF products in house, so it has to be one of the eco-foo-foo dyes/stains. Don't forget that you can mix and/or add water to change the shade which he may have done. Email him thru the evil empire's blog and maybe they'll answer after more people jump on.
  19. You can add me to the list at http://www.lasered-stamps.com
  20. This topic will certainly lead to some tandy bashing from people that don't even have or tried one, but for my part - I own three of the punches. So far, I'm quite happy. Even just 'factory' sharp they have cut cleanly and effortlessly. Of course I'm using a 3 lb maul, but basically I've just let gravity do it's job and haven't had to use much pressure to cut. I haven't tried sharpening one yet, but I don't see a problem there. On sale, they are a great alternative to their regular punches which don't cut very well at all. Cheers!
  21. Total Bummer. Mark at Leathersmith Supply is a great guy. I wish him luck in his other business. All of the KS suppliers seem to be closing. There was American Leather in Leavenworth, and they closed January. There are a number of boot and shoe places that deal with the evil empire (Tandy) and get you thier items, but I don't know any other independant dealers. In Manhattan, try Gary at Manhattan Boot and Shoe Repair. If you just need a small piece of leather, I'm sure he'll cut some off for you. Cheers!
  22. I think the problem will be that it will harden (or has a hardener in it). The first time you bend it, I think the guy across the street will hear the crack. You really want to use a flexible acrylic. The fabric paints are probably a better choice.

    Semi Stamp

Well I just posted this one on ebay this morning. It is 1.25" long and not quite an inch high. Cheers!
  24. Is this what you need.? This is 2.5" square.
  25. Hello. Here is a belt I finished for a customer. It is about 7 foot long as seen on the 8 ft bench. BIG! (sorry not a great picture, just showing scale). The end is not done because they are going to size it themselves. The sexy lady details were laser engraved in, then added some highlighter to it. Just thought I'd show it.
