Tooling Custom Design Transfer Tutorial
chancey77 replied to Kevin King's topic in Patterns and Templates
I hear your statement no wrong way...maybe that read harshly, but why waste paper and plastic when you can just print right on plastic transfer sheets? It doesn't require a special printer...sorry if it sounded harsh:) I have tried it all! Pinstipers paper, carbon transfer sheets, just drawing on paper and printing it on normal paper.... Cardstock doesn't have enough give to make a good impression, and all the others either whip off or smear ink, or tear during tracing the outline...today go get clear transfer sheets and tomorrow tell me again there is a better way:) I bought a box of 100 last year and just now needing another one soon. I draw original artwork on paper and just use it over top of the paper from time to time as well, not needing a printer, so you get a lot of little stuff on 1 sheet.... I almost din't even reply to this thread, like a lot of other people laughing at it right now...but I did, so I stand behind it. Come to the dark side luke! P:S Kevin... I think your sewing work is really great! You have a good eye for upholstery and the wood grain you did is really GREAT! This was not an attack on you! I have been doing leather stuff like this for 30+years...i know it is trial and error, and where there is a will there is a way, but just get some plastic sheets for gods sake! hahahahaha Yours truly, mono e mono, this beers for you! -
Tooling Custom Design Transfer Tutorial
chancey77 replied to Kevin King's topic in Patterns and Templates
It looks like you have also been doing it the hard way and the wrong way for some time... So here is your solution, 20 bucks for 100 sheets of Transfer Plastic sheets is the answer!!!!!! Just print it out on Clear plastic sheets that are 8.5x11 you have the picture and a tough material that won't pierce! You can see through the design and properly line it up where you want it with out best guessing... You can use the same one many times, DO NOT PRINT IT MIRROR!!!!!!!!!! Use it ink side up not down! If you do it ink side down it will leave black ink on the leather wherever you push down with the stylus and just another step pf time that is not necessary!!!!!!!!!!!! Clear Transfer sheets are the best! The same ones they use for overhead projectors...staples or any craft store should have them or even a teachers supply store.... Wax paper like oven paper works good as well, and is better than good tracing paper. It is wax so= water resistant, and it is at every single grocery store and sells like 20meter rolls for 3 bucks.... Things you might use all the time like stars and triangles or whatever... I make out of heavy card stock. and keep those. -

That wallet looks great! I like the background and the skulls have great patina! I have also made a skull belt similar to that before many years ago. I like to see them done by hand it always looks better than the Kmart ones:)

1St Seat And Some Finishing Questions
chancey77 replied to Miloradovich's topic in Motorcycles and Biker Gear
Whats the latest on the update about this seat...we are all wanting to see some updates..... -
When you use glue for laced items it gums up your hole puncher, and sometimes puts a residue on the lace when you put it together. It has it's uses but in all my years I have only used glue a couple times. Never has anyone come back to me complaining about stressed out holes...or broken ones. I make seats for bikes that get the living dog mess rode out of them , and not even 1 single person has ever comeback to or even told me about broken hole. With 7-12 oz leather as long as you make the holes 5mm away from the edge it will not ever tear. As far as you waterproofing comment.... I tend to never put my guns in water:) And they always get a cleaning and oil after use..... Maybe that would be for those underwater guns that James Bond uses:) hahahahahahaha.... But I guess you knew that would be my smart a** answer for that comment:) LOLOLOLOL Actually I read your comment like this... WOW Chancey you are the MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is an AWESOME TIP!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOUR MY HERO! LOLOLOL AND THEN I SAY "DUDE YOUR WELCOME, I LOVE YOU AND DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU PULLING OUT YOUR HAIR ANY MORE OVER PUNCHING HOLES THE WRONG WAY"

A learning experience for sure! The only thing I could tell you how to fix this is, Take out that section of lace and recut the leather in a U or V shape from the zipper to the end of where you messed up. (it may look a little off, but you do have the room in the bag to do so) Punch the wholes together(top and bottom at the same time) and splice in a piece of lace starting about 3" back from where the problem was. I use 1/8 wide zip ties.Same size as my lace. On every project that is laced together. I do this with motorcycle seats all the time...not what you did...but this is how I do it:) But here is how to do it from now on. 1.Always Punch the holes on your top piece first. 2.Place(or fold) it on top of your bottom piece (the way it will be assembled). Major Tip!-Use a scrap piece of leather on the bottom side of the whole punch so you don't leave those round marks on the bottom side of your good leather. 3.Use the whole puncher and start at the ends and zip tie them. Then start counting every 10 holes ; punch and zip tie them together. Counting holes as you go also helps. And there is no way to somehow have a fold or overlap because you have counted them as you went. Do this to as many as you can; maybe like 20-30 zip ties for a gun case like that. This way there is NO WAY to criss cross the lace or holes and it will remain tight. 4.Then remove the first zip tie and start lacing and remove zip ties as you come to them. If you do it this way there is no need for glue. The lace will keep it together. Doing it this way, you will not ever mess it up like this again! On motorcycle seats I place the 2 skins together and make about 8 marks on the outsides of the two skins. Then pre punch 4 holes, top and bottom centers and left and right centers. So when I put it on the shaped seat pan I know where the hole are supposed to line up together. Zip tie the 4 holes all together and punch in the middles in between the already zip tied holes. Then I start lacing from hole next to the top Center hole. I HOPE THIS HELPS! I FEEL YOUR FRUSTRATION! I HAD TO LEARN FROM DOING IT AND MESSING UP MYSELF. Hopefully this advise reaches others as well!!!!!!!

I am not sure that really needs a reply:) But I do have a much larger camouflage stamp than that. The basket weave I am going to do with my swivel knife and swivel beveler. Everything is going to be much smaller on the real deal obviously as far as stamps go. But as something to have as a small scale for the client is cool. This is the very first time I have made a miniature sample before...I never had a need for a mock up before. I was watching American pickers and got the idea from a mini table saw they found that was used by the salesmen back in the 30's:) I thought wow that is a great idea..lol And more than anything it has helped give me a small glimpse and the client of the potentials. Friday is when I will start on it....I will post pics of progress as I go. I get an idea in my head, visualize and go for it. Traits of me being a Leo Type A:) I have been waiting on the leather for about 3 weeks now till it showed up yesterday, so I have had to much time in my opinion to be thinking about it already. There will be some tiki heads, stars, anchor, and a lot more tattoo imagery on the pieces, but how much can you really fit on a 5" piece??? LOL Plus there are 2 doors:) I am trying hard not to throw the whole kitchen sink at this thing. A few big pieces might be more than enough. Imagine giving a whole cow full body tattoos, that is what this is going to be like...It is taking 2 whole sides to make the panels, that is more skin than I have, and I have a lot of tatts, and have room for a lot more. So Hero pictures(the big ones/main focus) and filler pics. It is a bit mind blowing the whole idea of doing truck door panels. I have been trying for years to find the right guy to say yes. I have been going to car shows and building hot rods my whole life, and I have never seen this done on any project ever besides huge country stars from the 50's-70's. The closest thing is the western suit maker Nudie Cohn's Pontiac Bonneville that he made for Art Miller(car dealer),Buck Owens,Porter Wagner and a few other rhinestone cowboys. But unlike the western look (which I very much appreciate) of floral patterns. I am going to put my touch of tattoo designs and Rockabilly Rebel for this Rockibilly Rat Rod 51'. I LOVE BUCK OWENS CAR! It is amazing, but for this project it is going in a completely different direction. More like Prison and Dangerous Backstreets the imagery and essence of all the songs that all those musicians including myself write about.

Ya it is a straight razor. One of my signatures. The piece is going to be the biggest canvas I have worked on to date, so I am excited to get in to it! There is so many ideas I have it is impossible to put on a 5" piece...

I use Photoshop. There are some cool books that come with cd's with all the pictures from the book so you can print and resize them to fit what you need. http://www.google.co...IwAg#ps-sellers http://www.google.co...BDgK#ps-sellers http://www.google.co...CDgK#ps-sellers http://www.google.co...CTgK#ps-sellers There is just a few I always see in Designers studios. You can always borrow and download Illustrator, or photoshop if you know someone who has it, you just can't register it thats all....no need to spend tons of cash! Just ask some friends if they have something you can download from them. I would never pay 700 bucks for the photoshop I have! I got it from a friend, I am running a new Imac, and it has been running now 2 years on this computer...I didn't spend a dime! My friend makes websites and pro advertising, so every second new photoshop that comes out he gets. He always skips a generation, and then I get a copy of it. SWEET! It is easy, just ask around!

Ya prob closer to 400..but we will see. Also the whole perimeter will be double loop stitched , so an ungodly amount of time there, but I will have help or that part:) I have been thinking and trying different weave patterns so I am thinking alternating arrows and 4 lines of straight and then alternate again...but we will see. I am still trying to get it perfect on test pieces before I get in to deep into the actual thing. It is very hard to get the arrows to alternate or (Diamond -X pattern which is way cool) and be consistent withe the stamp I have. I have marked it on 1 corner and always lead with it, but for some reason it seems to want to not be consistent sometimes. I may just bag the whole stamp weave anyway and do it by hand, It might be a little more fun with a big weave done with the swivel knife...just another thought I have had about it. We will see this week what happens:)

Got in my leather order today for the 1951 Ford Pick up project. I thought I would start by making a couple miniature size ones so we can get an idea of where we are heading. These are the size of my hand right now but will be 37" x 37" or 90cm x 90cm for all my metric user buddies out there:) Obviously I am going to have so much more room for a lot of detail, but these little mock ups are just to cool not to share! I can't wait to dive into these this weekend...I am thinking about 200hrs each before they are done.... Again these are just spit ball ideas for the panels now:) IT IS A RAT ROD 51...The owner has done a lot to the bottom side and now ready for the road, but the interior is going to be sick! We are starting with the door panels and will do the seat and rear upholstery and headliner. But first things first...Door Panels:) So enjoy!

Anteater Printed Cow Hide
chancey77 replied to CMTrues's topic in Exotics, Reptiles, Furs and others
http://rainbowleathe...ossed/embossed/ Their anteater is not great, but this is what I have found so far. They do have a cool walrus embossed leather. This is another one I have found. Some better ones, but still not what I would call good anteater. http://www.perroneae...ossed_skins.php Since the 70's it has been illegal to hunt anteaters, since they are on the endangered list. When they do die in a zoo, they sell fast and are very, very expensive! I don't believe they don't have a better embossed skin! I can't find any resources for where the boot makers are buying their fake skins for boots. Very interesting question, now I am obsessed THANKS! hahaha But maybe 1 of those 2 links will suit your needs????? Good Luck! -
Well I guess you get that short answer...because explaining the picture could take us into a very long discussion about symbolism. It is as far as what this piece is used for is a tattoo artist to put on his leg to protect from ink and blood stains and splash from the tattoo gun from ruining his pants, The pictures are. Triangle-also known as the Trinity a place to conjure and trap spirit. The Eye of Horus- the all seeing eye of God. Fire-Banishes darkness, cleanses, purifies, love, hate, determination and destruction of all. Spears at bottom of the Trinity= protection and a way from being trapped with spirit. Light coming from Trinity=Protection from Dark Spirit The 3 rings with segments = Ayin En Soph the spirit beyond God and human comprehension. The background with space around the picture/is called the Void=The non tangible aspect of humans=the Soul. That is the Short Answer:) In the end=a very powerful talisman for the person who wears it.
