    Here is my first vest. I used 6-7 oz leather and tooled the border. I ended up with a great deal on some lamb skin so I lined it with that:) this is really heavy but being a heavy use vest it should break in nice. I wet it really good and rolled the sections in multiple directions to break the grain and start the initial break in to make it flexible. I started having my doubts and started thinking it was to heavy, but when it was all finished and I put it on it felt like it should and had plenty of flexibility. Anyway well I popped my cherry:) hahaha now I am making another one:) Cheers, Chancey

    You just always roll the dice with whoever is working that day. I have lost flashlights like WHEN WAS LIGHT ILLEGAL!! and they have taken my hair grease and god knows what else over the years... But for some reasons huge chain in my wallet is ok?!?!!?! I just don't get it! I flew from Mossiuri to NYC and I had just gone to Tandy and bought a new hole punch... Well it was in my carry in any they took that... So just be safe and carefully plan ahead...... Last tip to England I had a huge serrated fold knife stuck under a panel in my carry on... Oops:) anyway I made it through the first airport in Finland and when I got to England and went through security I was met by 2 englih police officers and questioned for an hour:) hahaha that was a nightmare and a honest mistake... So like I said just pack right... Or split your tools through out the 3 bags so if something does get lost you haven't lost all your tools to Murphy's Law.

    You will not be allowed to carry on ANY leather tools. I have flown with my gear many times. They would not even allow my stamps. So I say you better get a good plastic indestructible pelican case or something similar. I use a padded metal case with straps these days myself. Best of luck!

    Cool!! Thanks for that!!! So I have been doing some research and it seems Cedar Oil is good for wood and leather. The main use is not as I thought though. You are for sure correct about thinning it out. It is said that there is a mixture for anti fungal that uses cedar oil. Formulation The basic formulation is: 200 g anhydrous lanolin 30 ml cedar oil (acts as a fungicide) 15 g beeswax (optional) 330 ml X-4 solvent or hexane (solvent) The first three ingredients are mixed warm, then added to the cold solvent and allowed to cool while constantly stirring.[3] Care should be exercised, as hexane is highly flammable. That is what the British Museum uses on all leather in house. Anti fungal and fluid injector. The cedar oil fuses with the lanolin very well. There was another one I found that was like 1 part cedar oil to 5 parts neatsfoot oil. Also used as a anti fungal... So I guess that is why the price is so high depending where you live to get this oil. Here it is 36€ a pint. Not a quart like I thought. So use it in items tht will be in severe weather to help not bust into mold I guess would be the mail application. There seems to be a lot of other uses for the oil and has been used as a cheap embalming fluid as well:) but also great for wood and home anti mold spray. So there we go I guess... Well worth the investment! I think I will be using this on all the seats I make from now on. Thanks for your photo Horn! It is MUCH APPRECIATED!

    I saw the guy last night for the first time since the seat build. He has been riding this bike all over Europe and left bike in Switzerland but it will be coming back to Finland this summer. I will be getting pics of the bike this week! Finally!

    Does anyone use Cedar Oil here? It is pretty expensive at 36€ a quart so I am looking for some examples that people have used it on raw veg tan...I can't seem to find any examples.

      Well as a general rule after doing some research it seems that cedar oil is thinned down with neatsfoot oil and wax to make a anti fungal oil:) so says the British museum:) so I guess a little bit goes a long way and that's why the high price.

    It is exactly the same length as my HD JACKET. Seeing as it is twice as thick as my leather jacket and I have owned and fixed that for the last 18 years I think it will last a lifetime:)

    This is my first Biker vest. I made the template and just started cutting. I made this one from 6-7 oz veg tan and a lamb skin liner. The front clips are detachable key rings. I just added a simple border tooling because this vest is getting MC Club patches. I am now going to start another vests for myself that is heavily carved and tooled. Yes it is going to take forever to break in but this guy will wear this vest everyday for years and years to come so I expect it may not take so long. While it was wet I rolled and rolled it to break the grain and heaviness so it had flexibility. I oiled it about 4 times and waxed it up.
