Thank you very much! I'm working on another Avenger for a 2" J frame now, hopefully it will be as good or better. Jeremy -

I Want To Build A Messenger Bag
J Hayes replied to J Hayes's topic in Satchels, Luggage and Briefcases
What if I wet form the gusset before assembly? How much will veg tan loosen with a couple of heavy coats of neatsfoot? Jeremy -
Hello, I want to make a messenger style bag. Id like to make the front, back and flap from one piece and hand stitch the sides in with the seam out. I have 7/8 oz veg tan that I'd like to use. I'm thinking if I assemble it around a wooden form that would be best. I plan on burnishing the edges so they look finished and nice. A very simple tough lifetime bag. I've done some holsters and my stitches ate getting nice as are my edges. Do I seem to be on the right track? Thank you for the help Jeremy

7Th Holster Iwb "shark"
J Hayes replied to J Hayes's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
How'd it look? I've thought about maybe a different style loop, one that had a tail so to speak and the snap would be lowered. I'll add a drawing Jeremy -
7Th Holster Iwb "shark"

I though about using 2 T nuts, but was concerned the the stub of the unsed one would cause damage to the pants. It would look better sandwiched I agree. Jeremy -
Looking for feedback, 7th holster. It is for a friend, he named it "shark". Made of horse with a beeswax/neatsfoot sealer. Linen thread from Zack White. I slicked the edges after wet molding and am really pleased with how it turned out. SIG 1911 Commander no rail Thanks Jeremy

Thank you very much! Your mark is way nicer than my homemade one, mine will be on the back from now on. Jeremy -

Robert Thanks. I agree my mark should be moved. Sorry about the picture size, still trying to figure out how to make them smaller Jeremy -
Thanks to all for the replies. I will try the EMT or anything else I can scroung up in metal shop. I made my strap end cutter from a pices of 1" stainless tubing and that works well, no reason I can't get something to work for belt slots, plus it gets me time in the garage with one of my other interests, to many of those at times. The 1 1/4" starting point for dia helps much. Thanks again Jeremy
-
So you burnish the slot with a hot iron? Are you Kelley gun leather? Jeremy

1/4" hole? Jeremy
-
This might be a stupid question but nobody ever accused me of being a genius. What do you all use to make the belt slots in your holsters? I did one with a round hole on each end and cut between, PIA and didn't look as nice as I thought it should. I've been eyeing an Osbourne 1 1/2" bag punch, will that allow a belt of 1 1/2" to pass through or do I need to get the 1 3/4" punch. I see Zack White has both Midas and Osbourne, any preference? I am using 9/10 oz at this time for OWB Avenger style holsters and am cutting both layers at the same time. Thanks Jeremy

Hand Stitch Threads, Which One?
J Hayes replied to J Hayes's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Anybody willing to sell me a few yards of the Barbours linen in 5, 6, and 7 cord sizes? I'd like to try a bit before dropping $50 on a spool that I might feel is the wring size. Also what needle is preferred? I've been using some big eye or easy thread needles from Springfield. Thanks Jeremy -
G30 Holster Problems
J Hayes replied to particle's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Per Glock Website 30mm/ 1.18", that's the frame just below slide. Slide on my G23 (40 compact) is1.010 if I remember how to read my vernier properly. Jeremy -
Anybody out there use a Speedy Awl? The one with the bobbin in the handel giving a machine type lockstitch? I have one lying around, but so far I have stuck with the 2 needle saddle stitch. I know the saddle stitch is stronger, I'm just wondering if anbody uses one. Thanks Jeremy

Would A Counter Bore Fix This?
J Hayes replied to IngleGunLeather's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
My setting anvil has 2 sides, one concave for the tops and one flat for the male posts. Is it possible yours has only one side, a concaved one? Sometimes when I get in a hurry I overlook things, and something like using the wrong side of the anvil I could see myself doing. Jeremy -
G30 Holster Problems
J Hayes replied to particle's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
FWIW I"ve done a few Glock 23,19 holsters, the first few were super tight. The ejection port was the culprit, I molded from my actual Glock and went a bit to far pushing in the ejection port area. The next ones were pushed in just enough to get a nice outline and that seemed to help. the stich lines were tight on mine, had to force them in when wet molding, and I used one layer of cling wrap or nothing. Just a thought and something I ran into. Nice looking rigs by the way!! Jeremy -
Thanks. That gum is kinda messy and a PIA. Do you hand rub the edge with canvas or machine with a nylon slicking wheel? It's nice to use one product on everything, lessens the chance for error and speeds the process a bit. Thanks again Jeremy
-
I made a batch of beeswax neetsfoot oil. Man do I like it! Fingers worked best to apply as Dwight stated. One question though is edges. I rubbed mine with gum trag and then waxed, any opionions ? Jeremy
-
Thanks for the advice, I will make a batch and give it shot. I will be striving for craftsman status, otherwise its not worth doing. I think a craftsman strives for perfection, however elusive it is. I appreciate the help. Jeremy

Thanks. Do you then use your mix on the exterior only? Thanks Jeremy
