Is My Stitch Line Ok?
J Hayes replied to J Hayes's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
My personal carry rig is almost identical to the posted one, it holds pretty good but I do wish it was a bit tighter. I guess I'm chasing perfection, I'll never catch it but I can make it look better than it does. I want to mimic the lines closely, and I like to bone the detail in, even though nobody sees it. The ones I've done for a G23 and 1911 Commander were much easier to get the lines tight, all IWB. Jeremy -
Is My Stitch Line Ok?
J Hayes replied to J Hayes's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Yes it is an IWB, hopefully it won't be too tight, but I'll have to stitch it to find out. Kinda wish I had a machine just to do patterns, I'm not real fast at hand stitching. Revolvers are a PIA Jeremy -
Barbour Linen Thread Rocks
J Hayes replied to UberSquid's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
The Barbour's is awesome, the stuff doesn't seem to fray as badly as the previous stuff I've used. Is the best way to wax it just to drag it across my wax ball? Also what is the best way to dye this? I put some in my Fiebing's pro oil dye and let dry overnight but I still get alot of dye rubbing off on my hands. Should I be dragging it through a cloth. What do others do? Thanks, Jeremy -

Think this will be to tight? -
Just trying to perfect a pattern and was wondering if this looks ok or if I should move the stitch line closer. Any thoughts or critizism are welcome. S&W J frame, horsehide and Barbour's 7 cord. Thanks Jeremy

Barbour Linen Thread Rocks
J Hayes replied to UberSquid's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I am stoked to get the Red Hand and the code. I have a holster ready to be stitched and am chomping at the bit to get after it. I will report back. I got the 7 cord natural and some Osborne 0 harness needles to go with it. I was using some big eye needles from Springfield prior to this. Its nice to see other people get excited about thread and wax too! Jeremy -

I orders the 7 cord from Landwerlen today. I cant wait till it gets here. I decided to order the wax too, it doesn't sound terribly difficult to make, I just don't have the time. Jeremy -
Barbour Linen Thread Rocks

Everything I've done so far has been holsters at 6 spi, I may do some bags, but they will be heavy. 7 cord sounds good, can you pull it through the awl holes fairly well? How did making your own code go? Thanks Jeremy -

How do you like the 7 cord? I plan on ordering a pound Monday and have been debating cord size. What needle are you using with that? I've had some help locating pre made code at around $3 an oz, if you're interested I can share the sites. Thanks Jeremy -
Thumb Break Socket Bumper?
J Hayes replied to J Hayes's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Looks like I don't need to worry about it, at least for now. Got an email from him requesting no snap, just mold it tight. Thanks for the help. Jeremy -
Thumb Break Socket Bumper?
J Hayes replied to J Hayes's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Should've posted this picture first.I was thinking of kydex formed like a bridge or stitching another layer on the strap. Holster will be made from 9/10 HO Glockanator, thanks for the link on the plastic part, I need that too. Jeremy -
Is there any acceptable way to put a bumper around the snap socket on a thumb break to help prevent the socket from dragging on the gun when holstering and unholstering it? Or should I just not worry about it? It will be on a cyclone type for a 6" Smith 686. Thanks Jeremy

I Want To Build A Messenger Bag

[quote name=McJeep' timesta mp='1337707096' post='249079] Ayup - 'cobblers kids always go barefoot Yes sir! Paid work always goes to the front of the line! It is however a good way to get in trouble with the wife, putting paid work in front of her projects, funny though, she always seems okay with it when she gets to spend the proceeds!! Jeremy -
I Want To Build A Messenger Bag
J Hayes replied to J Hayes's topic in Satchels, Luggage and Briefcases
I figure I'll build a form for the bag and use that to help form my gussets, put a lip around the bag form and press the gussets into that, hopefully the everything will line up. I have to finish a couple holsters before I can begin the bag. It is for myself so it may get pushed back, you know how that is. Jeremy -
Making Sticky Wax
J Hayes replied to J Hayes's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Can this sticky wax be purchased pre made anywhere? Time to make it may be hard to come by for me, I guess I'd rather spend the time stitching. Or should I just suck it up and make it? Jastown.com has pitch $16 per pound and beeswax at $10 per pound. Jeremy -
I Want To Build A Messenger Bag
J Hayes replied to J Hayes's topic in Satchels, Luggage and Briefcases
I haven't heard of Church's, but I'm probably on the wrong side of the pond for that. I saw the bag I want to build on a Website, the closer I looked at that bag the more I thought it was beautiful but a bit crude on the stitching and some of the other details I felt were overlooked. Now I am NO expert, but I do feel if I take my time and think it out carefully I will be able to do a nice job. I am at least two weeks out from starting but I will post progress. Meanwhile I'm building it step by step in my head. Jeremy -
I Want To Build A Messenger Bag
J Hayes replied to J Hayes's topic in Satchels, Luggage and Briefcases
Go man go!!! Nothing wrong with pushing yourself! The bag I plan on making will have 2 gussets, one on each end, the front, back and flap will be a single piece. I plan on building a wooden form with a removable piece so it won't get stuck inside the bag. Hopefully by stitching the bag around a form I will be able to keep things square and straight. Hopefully. Jeremy -

Chuck What is your method for collecting from cut pine? Jeremy -
I want to make a batch of sticky wax for hand stitching with linen. Is there any reason I can not use the sap that collects on the trunk of my pine trees for this? Thanks Jeremy
-
Chuck Thanks for the source, and thanks also for the tutorial on your Website. I have read it several times while getting going on this new addiction if mine. I need to make a batch of the sticky wax as well, unless there is a source for ready made that is acceptable. Jeremy

I want to get myself some Barbour's red hand linen, I am unsure of 5, 6, or 7 cord. Where can I buy it and is anybody willing to sell me a few yards of each so I can try a bit before commiting to a $50 spool that I may not be happy with. Thanks Jeremy

Thank you very much! Jeremy

Hello, I am looking for this end ring for a strap on a bag, can anyone help me? Thanks Jeremy
