Those of you using the 9" arm 441 types for holsters, is the depth of the arm enough or do you wish you had the longer version ? Thanks Jeremy
-
I bet Bruce has some for sale and they'll actually cut when you get them! Last few bag punches I got from Osborne needed a LOT of work before they'd cut anything. Jeremy

Heres what I found in the machine, gear #238606-18spi, gear #238642-14 spi and gear #249024 not listed in my manual but produces 10 spi when I count it out. Jeremy

I put a Consew CS 1000 ($125) on my Singer 153w101, been happy with it so far. Its able to go though 3 layers of 5/6 oz chrome tanned and I've got the top speed set to 1000 rpm, slow as one stitch a minute if I want.

Maybe this http://www.harborfreight.com/5-speed-bench-drill-press-60238.html And add this http://www.harborfreight.com/drill-press-extension-table-with-fence-96395.html With the fence set properly all your holes will be centered. That or just get a good rawhide hammer to strike your Tandy punch, or HF has a 4 pound brass hammer that'd probably work real well. I have an old table top drill press I plan on setting up with a fence for holes and spot setting Jeremy

I have some oil tanned Crazy horse from ZW, nice stuff, anyway whats the trick to cementing this stuff? I tried Barge's and Weldwood, but no luck. Cement dried nice with the gloss but just wouldn't hold, I'm thinking I need to clean the area to be cemented, but with what? Thanks Jeremy

Learning To Use The Gas (Co2) To Get The Sewing Done.
J Hayes replied to shammatt's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
How much CO2 will you be putting into the air you breathe when stitching? That'd be my concern. -
Vinegaroon And Boning
J Hayes replied to J Hayes's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
That's why I wanted to start using roon, lack of rub off and color throughout. I would be great to find other formulas that work the same way. -
Vinegaroon And Boning

Thanks! I've been told copper in vinegar will yield a teal color, but I haven't tried it. -
Vinegaroon And Boning
J Hayes replied to J Hayes's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I like your scientific approach, how are you measuring the ph? I put 4 pads of 0000 steel wool torn in bits into a gallon of vinegar, after a day it produced a nice deep black on some scrap with about a 30 second dip. Jeremy -

Do you use the baking soda rinse as well? -
All you useing Mop n Glob as a sealer, do you put anything on after it has dried? I've dipped a few and they seem fine with just the mng. Thanks Jeremy

Dipping Holsters?
J Hayes replied to lowlife's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I'm going to start using vinegaroon for my black, stuff is amazing so far on test pieces, and the color is all through., meaning no touch ups. -
Bevel the edges at 45°, like a pictur frame and sew in the side, out the bottom, at least that's what I read in a Stohlman book, the art of making bags an cases, maybe in others too. Jeremy

Ha, I'm a day late and a dollar short! Story of my life! Anyways, you're welcome. Jeremy

Ohiotravelbag.com catalog P212 page 21. 800-800-1941 they have more too. These are solid brass which is nice I think. Jeremy

Have you tried DOT? Those should be good ones, just search durable dot or Scovil, you can order straight from the manufacturer, $50 minimum, they would probably send you samples too. They have Brass, nickel plated brass, government black and stainless steel. I'm awaiting my order currently, I'll report back but I'm sure they're the good ones. I got some solid brass ones from ZW, but they seem really thin and didn't set well posts folded and crushed. Jeremy

I'm going to start using vinegaroon. This is what I think I should do, stitch everything, wet and mold doing all boning, dip in groon about 20-30 seconds wait about a minute rinse in baking soda water then a clear water rinse. With all that extra moisture will my boning be lost? Thanks Jeremy

No, no money to burn, if I did get one it'd be from Bonny's, I've got plenty of stuff that needs repairs, don't need another. A Singer would be great, just don't see them for sale near me, well there was a 29-4 rust bucket someone wanted $800 for, I didn't bother. I keep looking though, maybe one will come my way. Hmm, one more machine may push my wife over the edge though, machine shop in the garage, leather shop in the basement & kitchen, wonder what I can put in the living room.....
