Shot in the dark here. My Singer was breaking top thread and fraying it badly, it was slightly out of time and the hook was splitting the top thread. I think I also moved the hook closer and went up a needle size as well as adjusting the timing. Sews awesome now. Jeremy

Trox Will the company that ruined you blade purchase the new one from the German dealer you mentioned having a blade? Maybe you can get in touch with the OP Olaf and see if his blade maker can duplicate your blade as well. Is there any saving your original blade or did they shorten it to much front to back? I would think a competent machinist with a surface grinder could do wonders.

Thanks, my late step father left me most of his machining tools and also some leatherworker stuff too, a beautiful Newark marked Osborne Draw gauge is the prize one. Its so good to be using tools with age and history. I'm glad you found a blade for your 86, I saw what they did to the original, hope they pay for the replacement for you. My blade needs a serious overhaul but I'm really hesitant to let anybody touch it after seeing what was done to yours. I've a friend with a few surface grinders, I may call out a favor and see if I can get some shop time in with him.

What is the thread capacity on it?

Hope this helps, my old Osborne 86 , it has a very slight hollow grind. Looks to be 14 degrees if I'm useing and reading my gauge properly. Jeremy

That's beautiful! Is that your perferred method of bullet loops? I like the double layered belt hiding the backs of the loops, nice touch. What weights did you use? Jeremy -
Cobra, Cowboy, and Techsew all have them and they sponsor this site for us. Their ads run in the banner at the top of the page and these guys answer many questions on the forums too.

What thread do you normally use on the 4500 , and how much smaller can you go without adjusting a bunch of stuff? I just put the table on my 153w101 today, took about 60 seconds, actually took me longer to find my C clamps than to install it. Talked to Steve, got a Juki Pro 2000 on its way to me.

When I saddle stitch I go six times the length of my stitch line, leaves me a bit extra when I'm done, thats on 2 layers of 9oz though, so thinner you could use less I'm guessing. My six times leaves 3 times on each side when starting.

Probably wouldn't be able to do that anytime soon. Do have family in Rochester, but no plans to get there in the near future.

Thats kinda what I was thinking

Couldn't he just put the flat table attachment on the cylinder arm in place of his 206?

Billy Never hurts to ask. I like the 153w101, I think the CB2700 is its clone with reverse. If you find get it. I've 6 iwbs laying here now for the "shop" , he wants 6 more owb with a thumb break and I think 6 without, and I think we got more blueguns coming. I am working on getting a bigger machine to do those orders saving the hand stitching for my personal customers, not that im back logged with those. Some people appreciate it more than others and are willing to pay a bit more for the hand work. I do have a friend a bit over an hours drive has offered me use of his Pro 2000 , might have to do that in the interim. Jeremy

Billy I'll keep you in mind, but I don't see myself selling it though, made a flatbed for it so its pretty versital for me and sews the bags I make really well. Wiz Sounds like more work than its worth, especially since its running really nice right now. Jeremy

Thanks. I don't want to ruin my machine in the process, I'm kinda fond of it. I'd probably handwheel most of it anyway. Jeremy

http://www.thethreadexchange.com/miva/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=TTE&Category_Code=nylon-thread-207 I've never used there thread, just know of the sight. Less colors in the larger sizes though. What size do you need? Check the for sale too, I think someone was closing out some from Hartman luggage. Jeremy

I have a Singer 153w101 and have been using 138 bonded nylon top and bottom on 2 layers of 5-6 oz oil tanned for bags and a 22 leather needle, I'm happy with the way it works. I can also sew 2 layers 8/9 oz vegtan with the same thread/needle combo, I've polished the dog so the tracks are very minimal even on the vegtan. My situation is this , gun store I help out at wants some holsters but cheaper than I care to hand stitch them for. Can I run 207 in my Singer? I will buy a heavy stitcher soon but if I can fill a few orders for him in the meantime and save the hand stitching for my customers can I do it? I say 207 top and bottom because even if I run 277 top its still only as strong as the weaker thread. Thanks everyone Jeremy
