  1. I might be interested in one of these, do they sew well?
  2. No holes yet, I stitch holding the awl and needles one hole at a time. I always stitch everything first then wet and mold, dry then seal.
  3. I've a customer that wants a black holster with contrasting white stitch. I dyed my horsehide with Fiebing's professional black oil dye and let dry 24 hours or so. Next I buffed it with a loose cotton buff on my buffing motor, jewelers type, 3450 rpm. I pressed pretty firmly. Am I on the correct path? I'll be stitching with Barbour's 7 cord white waxed with coad. Usually I use black thread and dye when I'm done or with horse I leave it natural for the contrast with black stitching. Thanks Jeremy

    Wax Pot

Anybody care to share a picture of how their wax pot is setup? I'd like to see how the machine is threaded with a wax pot. It seems any of us that sew heavy leather would benefit from some thread lube.
  5. Look at the press n snap too. Search it out on here. The guy that made me a boat cover uses them on stainless snaps, he probably sets a couple thousand a year, good covers = busy guy. It'll only do snaps and grommets though. You cab modify the standard line 24 socket die to did the PTD or LTS snaps by grinding a small flat on it. Mine came from Rochford Supply, $116 with the line 24 dies and 0 size grommet die. I did buy the bench mount too. So far I'm very pleased with it, beats the heck outta the arbor press setup I was using. Jeremy
  6. I just did the mod to the Consew CS1000 I got on Monday, wow! Still maybe needs a fine tune to get all the top speed outta it, but for now I want slow. Jeremy
  7. Art Thanks, seems my brain shut down for a bit. Jeremy
  8. I agree too. And they need to learn what a polish really is. I mean advertise it as being "polished" and when you get the thing its been hit with 180 grit and called good! Theses steels polish to a mirror like finish, and when they are truly polished they cut through the leather better and best of all you don't have to fight to get the darn punch back outta the leather! I'd go for a plain polished cutting edge and a pine handle. Jeremy
  9. Anybody use the Press n Snap? Been thinking about getting one. Thanks Jeremy
  10. Gump Thanks. I'll probably run about the same as you on my 153, I still hand stitch my holsters. All these motor choices are confusing, one dealer recommended me the Consew CS1000 over the Sewquiet 5000, not really sure why, especially since the Consew was less money. Anyway a local dealer carries the Consew, I'll get that Monday with a small pulley and report back in case anyone else is following this, and I hope my results are the same as yours Gump. Thanks again Jeremy
  11. What did you end up getting? That Kam one looked I have a cheap table top drill press and was considering using it as a press for setting snaps and punching holes and such, I imagine the Kam dies could be fit to it easily. Jeremy
  12. Gump No need for a speed reducer? That would be great! How many layers of what can it handle with that motor? Thank you! Jeremy
  13. How is that sew quiet 5000 working for you? I have a Singer 153 also and am looking at servos to replace my clutch? Thanks Jeremy
  14. After about an hour with my NEW Osborne I think it'll do. 8 blows with a 4 ounce rawhide (bigger mallet at home) and I was through some 5oz chrome tan. Jeremy CRW thanks for the tip on Bieler's
  15. Tom I've got a Singer 153w101, I believe yours is a clone of that, so its great to hear whats working for a similar machine. What do you mainly put through your machine? My clutch motor is s bit much even with a 1.75" motor pulley. Jeremy
  16. You're running a reducer on a gear reduction servo motor? Was the servo with the gear reduction built in not doing it? I'm needing a new setup myself.,not trying to hijack. Jeremy
  17. I guess I'm glad I didn't order a slot punch from Texas then if those need reworking too. So then you're faced with do I order one knowing it'll take me time to sharpen it or make one? I made a strap end cutter fro a piece of stainless 1" tubing, couple medium taps froma light rawhide mallet and I am through, edge is holding well too. I did however see some of the Weaver master tools at another guys shop, wow, truely polished to a mirror like finish and one whack on a 3/8 oval punch sent it straight through some 12 oz harness leather and the punch pulled out easily, didn't get stuck in the leather. Nice. Jeremy
  18. Just wondering what you all think of the Consew CS1000 motor, a dealer near me carries them. If it matters I'll put it on Singer 153w101. Thanks Jeremy
  19. Awesome, I almost pissed myself!
  20. I suppose, I thought they'd be a bit sharper than the are though, the one has a pretty good nick in it. Kinda like buying a punch "kit" in way. Thanks guys, I'll know what to expect on the next ones, or just make my own. Jeremy
  21. I got myself two new Osborne bag punches, 1 1/2" and 1 5/8". I have to say I was a bit disappointed, they look crude and are not sharp at all. Anybody else experience this? I kinda just want to send them back to where I bought. The 1 1/2 one wouldn't cut, the 1 5/8" one cut through one layer of 9/10, barely. Jeremy
