  1. At risk of sounding ignorant...I've been using a clicker press for a few years for my products. Have never had a need for a die that cuts top & bottom but every time I hear them mentioned I wonder how this is done without ruining the die? I assume you have to replace the metal plate on your swing arm with a cutting board type plate? School me please..just very curious. Mark
  2. Yep! I use some 3m packing tape on the back of my leather when tooling. Keeps everything in place. Bikermutt is spot on about Tandy. They serve a purpose as an emergency local supply for me for things like dye and hardware but don't get caught up in their hype. They will try to sell you a lot more than you need. Their quality on leather and tools is lacking and their prices are high. As far as tools go, as a beginner I wasted a lot of money getting stamps that 30 years later I may have used once or twice. For me a decent swivel knife, couple of bevelers and backgrounders, few different basketweaves and border stamps would have done it. Personally I don't think I would run right out and drop 500 on a Barry King set but I guess that depends on your budget. To me that would be like saying I want to take up oil painting and rushing out to $500 oil brushes. Your not going to paint a Rembrandt because you paid for the best brush. You might if you spend a lot of time practicing over the years. Find out what your style is and what you like before dropping big bucks. Mark
  3. Thats spot on. I use 346 over 277 all the time on my cobra 4 with a size 26. Don't think it would matter but I use Schmetz 26 with an S narrow cross point tip. Anyway, stitches two layers 7-8 ounce no problem. Mark
  4. Yep, grew up in Manhattan. Cost more for parking than the car cost and that was 30 years ago. We had an uncle that was well to do and I remember it cost him $84 a month for a parking spot. Lot cheaper to just take a bus/train/cab. Pretty much every city block was a little micro-city though. Everything you needed was right there unless it was a specialty product.
  5. I run a rotary phase converter but I also run other 3 phase equipment. Have no idea which is better as I have no experience with a VFD. Looked at them when I bought my phase converter and it seemed like they do a lot more than I need and I'm familiar with Rotary converters and new I could install on my own.
  6. Looking for a used Rotary hole punch like the Campbell R-74. Does not have to be that brand, just capable of feeding leather and punching centered holes. Hole spacing needs to be adjustable from approximately 1/2" to 2". I'm located in Clearfield, Utah
  7. I don't know how often Al gets on here Cowsandcans, but I have paid him a deposit on this and will be driving out to pick it up in about 2 weeks...
  8. Hi Ren, Just note from one eBay seller to another...fix your title, you have a typo on "leather". Also use all the characters eBay allows in the title. It does not need to be a sentence, think keywords. You want to have the word "Skiver" & "Skiving" "Servo Motor" "Table Included"...Everything you can jam in with what they allow, I think its 80 Characters. You need to do so before you get any bids as once someone has bid you can not edit the listing. Good luck with your sale! Mark
  9. Not sure if this is what you need but it might be. I have purchased from these guys many times when I restored one of my Singer machines. Their shipping and prices are fair. They have a lot of stuff others don't! https://www.college-sewing.co.uk/store/Singer45KSewingMachineParts
  10. Absolutely. The guy that used to manage the Tandy near me now works for me. They fired him for doing leather projects when they were slow. He would buy their kits, make the item and then put it on a shelf over the kits so people could see what they looked like finished. I guarantee you their sales where higher when he was working there than they are now. When we are slow and I don't have a project for him, he grabs some scrap and starts making something. Next thing you know a new customer is in looking at it, likes it, and we have a new product. That is the only restriction I put on him. Anything made in my shop on my time is mine. He has made me a lot of money over the past 2 years.

  19. Thanks guys, I can find the switch no problem. My local Grainger sells them for $1.09. It is finding them joined together with the threaded button on top that is the problem. As for them going bad frequently, yep, frustrating as hell. Mine is a Fipi. I bought it used 3 years ago and these darn switches are the only problem I have with it. Do the switches on your USM's look the same?
  20. Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone has found a more reliable replacement for the microswitches most clicker presses use on the handles? I have used Saia, Burgess, Omron, unknown China switches, etc. Problem is that they wear out too fast. I've been buying the individual switches and then I have to drill out the rivets that hold the switches side by side and then replace the switches. The switches are cheap and its not that hard to replace them but I have a looming problem. One of my brackets that holds the switches and threads into the handle is made of plastic. After changing the switches 10-12 times over the years the plastic is ready to break. I have found a seller that has both switches and the metal bracket shown below but he wants a ridiculous price to ship one to me from the U.K.. Has anyone found a replacement method, maybe a more modern switch that will thread into the standard size handle and maybe last for more than 6 months. And yes, I know I can just wire around the switch and make the press work, I'm trying to keep it safe as I'm not the only one who uses it and I really don't want to see what someones hand looks like after getting mashed with 26 tons...
  21. Can you post a link to the add please.
  22. hmm..guess I'll just have to go for it and see what happens. Nobody seems to know anything about them
  23. Ok, I had tried that , guess I didn't go small enough. they are now attached to my original post. thx, Mark
