  1. I am making a 5 plait mystery braided belt. I know there is shrinkage after braiding. For a 38 inch size belt. How much longer must I start with to allow for shrinkage ?
  2. Is that a acrylic product ? Because I have Fiebings Acrylic Resoline, if thst is the same.
  3. I just made a tooled belt. Dyed shades of brown. Then antiqued with Fiebings Antique Finish. QUESTION : What is the best to use to protect the belt, & antique from wearing off ? I have, Fiebings Acrylic Resoline, & Neat Lac. Is one of those good ? I want to protect the antique from coming off.
  4. Is the splitter still for sale ? If it is , what size is the blade ?
  5. Use 2 coats. Let the first coat dry for about 15 minutes, then apply 2nd coat let it become tacky, about 10- 15 minutes apply pressure. Must make sure glue is ready to set. Once you press it together, it's not coming apart ! I use clamps. Also make sure you rough up parts to be glued. If you ever glue on the grain side, you must rough it up. Hope I helped you. Let us know.
  6. Yes ! Barge has a lot of different types now , about 6 different types. Red & Yellow, Original formula.
  7. I've been using Barge Cement for many years. You have to get the one in the red can. It also comes in small tubes, which might be better for your small work.
  8. I've been working with leather for many years. I started 40 years ago like many leather workers with Tandy. I'm talking about dyes. I first started with Omega dye from Tandy. Then I graduated to Fiebing's. Then to Fiebing's Pro oil dye. In between some off brands. Now I found, Angelus Direct ! Great dye & great leather paint, many wonderful colors. Their Black is blacker than any dye I've tried. You just have to buff it alot ! Check it out at: https://angelusdirect.com
  9. I don't know if you are familiar with it, but USPS sends you boxes at no charge. As many as you need, & any size you want. Check out their web site, usps.com
  10. Nice, it's been many years since I made them. I can't remember where I got the tooling pattern from.I remember it was dyed red and green !
  11. Big Sioux, thank you for getting back. About mailing, if you can fit it in a 13 inch padded envelop, USPS charges $ 6.80 priotery mail
  12. Thanks CW. I didn't know it didn't come ready to use. Thanks for the heads up !
  13. I've been doing a lot of hand stitching. I am down to one awl blade, my Tandy blade just broke. I'm looking to purchase a Good awl blade. Has anyone here have or used, CS Osborne awl blades ? I'm looking to purchase their # E-44 2" Saddlers Harness Awl from their web site, it's $ 8.01. I use a lot of CS Osborne leather tools, I've always been satisfied with their products ! Any input would be appreciated.
  14. Does anyone have or know where to get a sleigh bell door hanging pattern. I think it was in an old, " make it with leather " magazine. It was dyed, red & green & had some border tooling. Some had " Merry X-Mas" tooled on it ?
  15. Does anyone know how to do this round braid ?
  16. You will be happy. When you speak to Wendy, She speaks with a Asian accent. Be patient, you'll get great prices. It's worth it !
  17. Thank you . That it what I was looking for.
  18. For being new to leather work, you did a nice job ! I know what you mean about white thread looking dirty. I posted what I purchased to solve the problem. Check it out. PS: I checked a lot of suppliers for tiger thread. & the one I listed is the best price !
  19. It is not easy to keep white thread looking clean & white hand sewing. First your hands must be super clean. Then you pick up dirt, dye, & other things that soil the thread. The longer the thread, the more dirty it looks. I just started using White Tiger Thread. It stays the cleanest at of all the threads I've used. It is a little pricey, so I tried a small tube to give it a try. I purchased 40m/133 ft.1.2mm, $9.59from: https://www.etsy.com/listing/244247926/tiger-thread-06mm-12mm-14mm-17mm-ritza?ref=hp_rv
  20. Does anyone know how the padding is made on this dog collar ?
  21. Thanks for the offer ! I already ordered from " Egyptian Leather". I let you know for my next order. Thanks Again !
  22. Well I just received my Tiger Thread. I ordered just one spool , white 1.2mm from Egyptian Leather as someone here recommend, to see how is is. They sent me a sample card with all the colors they carry & sizes. Well it is better than any hand stitching thread I have used, & I have used many different types over the last 40 years. Thank you for all the input ! I will be using Tiger Thread from now on.
  23. Good Video! I think most of us are, as you said, " leather nerds " ! I liked watching the video. Even though it is mostly about upholstery leather, which I use some times. It is very informative ! Thanks for posting.
  24. I just received my order from S-T Leather. They have the Best prices for supplies, ex., : rivets , snaps, all Fiebings products etc. Where else can you get 100 large solid brass rivets for $ 4.70 ? I just had to let my fellow leather workers know where to get supplies at good price.
  25. Thank you for your info. It is appreciated ! I too have been working with leather for over 40 years. I use the best supplies I can get. I just wanted to know about this thread I hear so much about. I think you explained it pretty well. Thanks !
