  1. You do great inlay work ! How did you do the script on the nose band ? That's realy nice !
  2. Looks to me like "water stain" ? When you cased "wet" the leather before tooling, how did you apply the water ? Looks like you used too much water. You may have to dye it before antiquing it. Like bare hands said, try a scrap piece of leather first. I don't think the acid is going to work. That is used for cleaning the leather, what you have isn't dirt, looks like water stain.
  3. For edge slicking, "gum tragacanth" can be used. Also saliva can also be used, works great, but can be messy. As for polishing dyed veg tanned leather, there are many choices. leather balm with atom wax. carnubba cream, I use both by feibings company. Feibings has a good booklet about all there products.
  4. those are fantastic !!! You should send photos to hollywood . You would be great for costumes.
  5. Looks like it was sewn from inside, than folded right side out.
  6. nice inlay wallet ! what color dye did you use ?
  7. I know I seen it on this fourm. It's a chart of all stamping tools from all diferent tool companies. Can someone Please direct me to where the chart is .. It shows the impressions with the different tool numbers.

  9. NICE JOB !!! Did you make the pattern yourself ? Did you dye the leather ? Real classy lookin .
  10. Just wondering if you finished the hat ? Here is a old photo of two hats I made 5 years ago. The black one wasn't quite finished. I didn't put the bend in the brim yet,& no hat band. I used 4/5 oz, & it made the hat too heavy. 2/3 oz. would be better.
  11. VERY NICE JOB !!! WHAT METHOD DID YOU USE TO DYE THE CASE ? Air brush ?
  12. I've been doing leather work, on & off for the last 40 years. Last 5 years more "on! I'd like to learn to braid. Start with something simple like this bracelet. I have a book on how to braid, just can't follow it. Can someone give a simple but direct lesson, with step by step photos ?
  13. Great job ! CAN WE SEE THE INSIDE ?
  14. THOSE ARE SOME SWEEEEET LOOKIN HOLSTERS !!!
  15. I make a simple leather sheath to cover just the top of the tool. Then keep them in my wooden tool rack.
  16. I agree with Billy. I've been using S-T for many years. I always email my order. Just make sure you list your items with there catalog numbers, from the web site.
  17. I've been wanting a pricking iron for a long time now. The Verg Blanchard are out of my price range. I do a lot of hand stitching, & I use overstitch wheels. Lately I've been using finished chrome tanned leather for some new cuffs I've been making. The wheels don't show up well on the chrome tanned leather. So I just ordered one of the China pricking iron, the 5 tooth one, to sample it. For the price, & the info from this thread, I thought I'd give one a try. I'll report when I receive it.
  18. David, I think photo #7 shows the use of a pony .
  19. Very nice. Job well done. Nice work on the stitching, very neat. What type of leather did you use for the interior ?
  20. It wasn't that hard. Just a little time consuming. First I drew the pattern, carved & beveled it into the 3 oz. leather I used steep bevelers so it was easy to cut out the filagree. I used xacto, but there are tools just for filagree. BeleIve they are like small sharp chizels, in different shapes. Not to experenced in that , first time attempeting. Then I glued the tan part to the green leather 2 oz.Than cut out the window part (top) dark brown leather. I used some soft upolstery leather very light weight, hand stitched around the window.Than using some light weight 2 oz.natural calf, for the back, I stitched all parts together1/8" from the edge. PS: I installed the male part of the snaps before putting the back lining on. For the back lining, any soft leather will do. I'm sure a sewing machine would come in handy on this project. Some day I'll get one or two.. .mene, what part of new york do you come from, I'm in Brooklyn.
  21. Here is a 4 layer rist cuff I just finished. The layers are : 1.green backing, 2.tan tooled & filagree. 3.brown top, 4.natural calf back lining. All hand stitched.
  22. OH ! So it was already dyed when you purchased it. Where did you purchase it from ? When something inspires me, I have to know all I can about it !!! I've been working with leather for 40 years, & I can never learn enough. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
