  1. Kyle, It is good ! I never used tiger thread, but for the price , you cant go wrong. I just used it to stitch a flashlight case from 7 oz. leather. Looks great, & sews good. I found it on ebay, no shipping charge, but it takes a few weeks to get to U.S.wax thread from china.htm For the price give one spool a try. It's only $ 3.79 for a large spool 260 m I sure it is not as good as "tiger thread" so take it as that, give it a try if you like.
  2. I'm hearing a lot of good things about this " tiger thread" ! Could someone please tell me what all the Hype is about it ? It's Very expensive . I just purchased some flat braided waxed thread from ebay, for $ 3.79 for 1.0mm 260m in length. Free Shipping ! It's most likely not as good as tiger thread, but you get 10 times the amount, for 1/2 the price.
  3. I agree with you Bill, although I have never tried Tiger Thread, & there is a lot of hype about it. This thread from China, & I like to buy US made stuff ain't that bad when you consider you get 10 times the amount, for 1/2 the price !
  4. I just checked the price of tiger thread. It's $ 6.95 for there 1.0mm X 25 m length. The thread I purchased is 260 m long, that's over 10 times the amount ! I know tiger thread is better, Not 10 X better ! Just my observation, & I try always to use the best material in my leather work. I just think it's over priced.
  5. I never used tiger thread. For the money $ 3.75 a full spool, 260 m. it's " not bad". I'm sure tiger is better quality ,but how much $ is tiger thread ?
  6. Yes it is flat braid !flat waxed thread.
  7. I just received waxed thread I purchased from e-bay from China. It took about 3 weeks to get it, but for $ 3.79 & No Shipping charge. The thread is very good. May not be as good a Tiger thread, But for the price, you can't go wrong ! Has anyone here used this thread ? I'm stitching a flashlight case, it looks very nice. I will post a photo when I finish it.
  8. Welcome to Leatherworkers ! Nice work. Did you tool the fleur de lis , or is it a stamp ? What tool did you use for the background of the knife case, behind the fleur ? Nice job on the woman's wallet, esp. the roses. I love the wallet's interior, is it a Chaylor- Fenneli ? One thing I would do different on your next wallet. I would punch the lacing holes a little closer to the edge of the wallet, just my opinion. Great work ! Leather working has been very rewarding to me for the past 40 years. Keep up the fine work.
  9. Thank you for all the suggestions. I combined a few , using an old tube, some lub, and a vice grip, I rethreaded using an old tube. It works now ! Now I can use my new #6 tube I just received from S-T Leather. Thanks to all.
  10. I have a CS Osborne #155 Revolving punch. One of the tube holes is stripped. I want to re tap it so I can replace the tube. Does anyone know what size the thread is, for the replacement tubes ? This may be a hard one to answer !
  11. A few months ago you answered some questions I had about sewing machines.

You asked where I got my martingale chains from. Back than I got them from England, very costly.

I found a supplier in the states much cheaper,. It's  Walsall Hardware Corp. Scottsdale AZ 85260

If your still looking for a supplier, check them out.

      Weird.  I just  saw this.

I ordered from them shortly after that post.  It took almost 6 moths to get them as they were out and waiting until they could place a large order for other stuff from China.
Plus, they only only had the 3/4" size, although they had sent samples in 3 sizes.
I don;t have enough request for Brass now to justify searching or spending a ton of money on more right now.
      Thanks

      Tom

  12. Thank you rejerome, that is exactly what I was looking for !
  13. I am making some credit card wallets. Can someone show how to sew & install, credit card slot linings. They are made from lining material.
  14. Wizcrafts, I'm sure you must have answered this question before, but here goes.

I've been hand sewing leather for many years. I just retired from my day job, I will be doing my leather work full time now. I make belts. dog collars & leads, cases, & wallets. What sewing machine do you recommend that can sew belts & wallets, & cases ? I have about $1,500.00 to spend.

                                                             Thank You

      Wizcrafts,

Just went on line & checked out Ryan Niel's videos on the CB227R & CB3200.

I really like both machines. Question, will the CB3200 sew wallets, or is it too heavy duty of a machine to sew wallets ?  I can't afford to buy both, This will be my first machine, so I don't want to make the mistake of buying the wrong machine. As I said I make belts, wallets, cases, dog collars & leads.

What do you think ?  This is a big investment for me !

      Wizcrafts,

You asked me to define the thickness of the leather I/ll be sewing.

8/10 oz. on top, & 4/5 oz. on bottom. Thread size 207(T210). Should be the thickest leather I'll be sewing.  3/4 oz on some lighter projects. Do you think the CB227, or the CB3200 would be the better one for what I need it for ?

  15. Tandy has some leather on sale. I normally carve HO leather. I need some " not so expensive" 8/9 oz. leather for some plain, not carved, cases & belts. Has anyone used Tandy's , "European single single bends" or Tandy's "Oak leaf double shoulders" ? I know it's not as good as HO, I need something, not so pricey . These leathers are on sale for a great price, $100.00 a piece. Any input appreciated.
  16. Big Sioux Saddlery, I just got Al Stohlman's book, " The Art of Hand Sewing Leather " I have been working with leather for over 40 years. I am going to learn some new things about sewing leather. Thank you for the heads up. One thing, looks like I will need a rounder.
  17. Thank you for your input, bikermutt & JLS leather !!! I've used neatsfoot in the past, & heard about Aussie, have to try it. Here is what I did. First light coat of, Montana pitch-blend leather oil& conditioner. After it dried, I applied, Skidmore's beeswax waterproofing. Then I buffed it out. Came out great. Just some info on how it turned out. This site is the best !!!
  18. I am making a molded leather case. After casing & dying the leather seems dry. What can I use to get the moisture back into the leather ?
  19. I want to make a pair of sandals. What is the best way to cut, iron sole leather ? For the bottoms & heel. How about a hand held jig saw ?
  20. Dose someone know how they do the "rolled leather" ? A customer wants me to make a rolled leather dog collar & lead. Here is a photo of what he wants. I have an idea, but I need to know the steps of how it's done.
  21. Thank you Art. My first time using copper rivets.
  22. I'm looking to purchase some copper rivets for the first time. Tandy has them on sale. Which one to purchase ? #9, thick post or #12, medium post thickness. ? I'm using them for 8/10 oz. leather.
  23. I have some brown chrome tanned 4oz. leather I use for lining dog harnesses. Can it be dyed black ? What is the correct way to dye it. so the dye wont come off. It's going to be used outdoors.
  24. Funny, I just purchased Montana pitch blend. I'll have to give your way a try. Thanks !
