  1. Thanks for the info. I just found a brand new can of " Skidmore's waterproofing" in my locker. Just in time, were getting 2 feet of snow today.
  2. Thanks Chief ! I found some, Skidmore's beeswax waterproofing I purchased a long time ago. Never used it yet, when you mentioned the "Aussie" w/beeswax, I thought of the Skidmores. I'm going to give it a try today. Just in time for the snow comming today. I'll report on how it workes.

  4. I've been making a lot of dog collars & leads for "stafford terriers" I use "english bridle leather" which I get from Wickett & Craig. I'm looking for a good conditoner to tell my customers to use. Someone sugested "Sedgwick's leather dressing", that comes from England. Does anyone know of something just as good, made in the USA.
  5. I just made a handbag from an old pattern I had . The strap pattern is ONE size. I want to make it "adjustable". I DON'T want to use a buckle. Any way to make it adjustable without using bulky hardware ?

  8. I KNOW SEWING IS SEWING. I MEANT, DO YOU FOLD THE EDGES OF THE BACK OVER THE LINING, OR JUST SEW IT & FINISH OFF THE EDGES ? I GUESS IT'S A MATTER OF PREFERENCE.

  11. I'm looking to purchase an old edge creaser tool. I'd like to know how they are sized ? Ex: #1 = how far between line & edge ? #3 = ?? Also how are the "double line" edge creasers sized ?

  13. I just started doing business with SLC. I placed 3 orders so far & I'm pleased with their products. I'm not a newby to leathercraft, been working with leather for over 40 years, & I have used many different suppliers over the years. Two of my orders to SLC had veg tanned sides, first 3/4 oz. than 5/6 oz. sides, both were up to par ! I don't know if you ordered via the internet, or by phone. I found the best way to order from them is by PHONE ! You can tell the salespreson just what you want, & expect. Just my 2 cents worth. HAPPY TOOLING !

  16. SOUNDS LIKE YOU'RE WAY IS JUST FINE. JUST MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE AWL STRAIGHT WHILE PUSHING THROUGH.
  17. HOW DO YOU MARK THE STITCH HOLES ? BEFORE YOU USE THE AWL. YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THE AWL IS GOING THROUGH STRAIGHT EVERY HOLE. IF NOT IT WILL LOOK WAVEY ON THE INSIDE.

  19. I'VE BEEN USING A SAFETY SKIFE FOR MANY YEARS. tHE ONE I'M USING NOW IS STARTING TO BEND. i NEED A NEW ONE. THERE ARE A LOT OF DIFFERENT COMPANYS MAKE THE SAME ONE. MY QUESTION IS : IS THERE A DIFFERENCE, LETS SAY BETWEEN THE OSBORNE, & TANDY'S , & THE ONE SOLD BY, S-T LEATHER ????
  20. Thanks Dutch. That's just what I was lookin for, the two flaps you sewed off the gussets. Couldn't see any from the outside. Now I see why. Nice Job !
  21. I wonder if that type of stitching can be done using a sewing machine ? Can the bag fit into the machine to get to the bottom of the gusset ? By the way, BEAUTIFUL BAG. I HAND SEW EVERYTHING, SO i KNOW HOW PAINFUL & TIME CONSUMING IT CAN BE.

  23. A lot of everyday items we purchase are packaged in plastic. I always save the packaging when I need it for a wallet id cover, I just cut it to size. Works very well. So save your plastic packaging for future use. For right now, what Trevor said is good plastic to use.
