looks like you have rounded the ends, they don't look even.

I guess you mean when you pull the thread tight its cut into the groves of your fingers, you could put plasters on your fingers or make a soft leathertube that slips on your finger.

I use contact adhesive for my wallets either in liquid form or a spray. I have made some recently with Turkish silk inside and for these I used a contact adhesive spray. You only need a light covering for it to stick but.. you only really get one chance of fitting it cut the liner bigger than you need then trim back. this sort of thing Claire. http://www.screwfix.com/p/no-nonsense-contact-adhesive-natural-500ml/32657

Beginner Working With Thicker Layers Of Leather And Inverse Pricking Iron
kevinp replied to naz's topic in Sewing Leather
Naz have I guess you have seen Nigel's videos about saddle stitching he has one on stitch marking through several thick layers where you mark each layer of leather with the iron and then use the awl to pierce through. The thing with stitch marking and then using the awl to go through is that it is quite a steep learning curve as each push through with the awl has to be at the same angle as all the other holes. It takes time but it is worth the effort to learn this way. for some short videos on the subject try Saddlery courses on youtube http://youtu.be/RuTn9czGkQ8- 32 replies

I use two pairs of dividers one set to half the width of the strap and the other set to the hole spacing.

Beginner Working With Thicker Layers Of Leather And Inverse Pricking Iron
kevinp replied to naz's topic in Sewing Leather
The idea behind the pricking iron is to prick one side of the leather and use a diamond awl to finish making the hole when you stitch, this is how the tool should be used. If you use it to punch all the way though your stitch marks will be too large which will make the thread lay wrong in the slits. And to prick both sides with the same tool is just odd- 32 replies

What we try to do is rent space in shops eg: rent a shelf or a table, the goods then stay ours and we can sell them for what we want. The shop can also take a 10% handling charge for selling any of the items. This works very well as we can sell our items for what we want and the items stay ours and the retailer has not got to try to make a profit from expensive items.

Preventing Stretch When Cutting Out Chrome Leather?
kevinp replied to DavidL's topic in How Do I Do That?
We cut loads at work and use knife edge scissors. do not lift the leather just rest the scissors on the table and cut to your lines. -

Has Anyone Tried Metropolitan Leather?
kevinp replied to Redochre's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I have used them solely for the last year, and have always had fantastic quick next day service and the leather has always been the high quality that I would expect. I have leather from others but the service having to wait a week for delivery and quality have never been the same with brand marks and other faults. -
Twisted Poly And Tiger Threads In Same Picture
kevinp replied to Tex Shooter's topic in Sewing Leather
If you make smaller holes as you are sewing the thread will round its self as you pull it through I never had tiger thread laying flat its always round after its been pulled up tight. -
you can get a dead blow hammer from wicks or one of those places, I use a thor hammer which has copper one side and rawhide the other then a plastic cutting board from tesco under the leather you are cutting.

there are lots of places in the uk for leather tools and other bits, for glue you could try Abbey or Le prevo. both sell contact adhesive which you do the job you require be careful to get everything alined as you only get one go with these sorts of glue. I use them in my job as a trimmer and once stuck down they take a lot of work to get off again, as others have said they will not be as good as stitching.

Thanks for all the nice comments. Cuffs would be short may be up to 3-4 inches when they are longer as in these around 7 inches we call them vambraces. Sleeze there is around eight hours in these at this point but does not include the design, and the final finish. Tom who now owns these and commissioned them did not want eyelets or linings, the problem with eyelets he said is that they are hard to do up by yourself as the lace is always coming loose. These were finished at the end of last week and then passed onto Tom they were finished in plain black, he did want to have the vines painted green but after doing some samples it was decided that this would not suit Toms look. I will post the pictures later.
