What are your favorite YouTube videos?
Elton Joorisity replied to CitizenKate's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
My two all time favorite Youtube videos are performed by my EXTREMELY beautiful and talented girlfriend. Just search KandaceKalona. I did make her guitar strap but she had put it on backwards for fear that the buckle set would scratch the neck(I have since dealt with that issue). If you don't believe she is my real girlfriend, Steve Mason will vouch for me cause he got to meet her!!! -
to click or not to click

I'm pondering the same idea myself. I hate cutting fender hobbles, latigo carriers and the sorts out by hand. There has been a lot of talk on here previously about the use of a simple hydraulic press. That's probably the route I'm willing to go with. As far as Dies I have seen the catalog from Big Sky and their prices are extremely reasonable. I have also heard a lot of praise towards Texas Custom Dies. I already have a set of concho dies so I am already that far ahead. -
I used the Pro-crafter set for years and just recently switched to a set from Barry. Barry's are steeper but you get really good bevelling out of the pro-crafters for the money. Just my 2 cents worth

I always tell beginners to buy either Tom Hall or Gail Hought's braiding books. I personally own both sets and have learned more from them than I ever did with Bruce's. As far as pre cut and bevelled rawhide strings, there is a guy in Idaho and be darned if I can't think of his name right now, that sells pre cut and bevelled rawhide strings in different widths.

Steve, I have a rope maker that I plan to use to build a bunch of mohair mecates with. I learned how to make mane hair ones in 97 but with the time involved and extra help I would rather use mohair. If you want I could bring it down if someone has a long shop that we could work in and twist a few up( be better in the spring)

Skinner, check out www.westernfolklife.org there's a short video of Doug Groves making one on there. You get to see him make one pretty much from the start until it is being used. Hope this helps.

Get ahold of the leathercrafters and saddlers journal for back issues. They did a series on boot making and saddlemaking.

I'm not a master by any means but as far as I'm concerned wou are well on your way to becoming one. The only advise I have is that maybe you could bevel your strings a little finer on your bosals. Keep braiding!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe give www.artcords.com a try, their # is 1 802 274 8725. Also you could try The Mohair Exchange at 1 817 689 1079. I was talking to Vandy Douglas a while back about the whole mohair thing. Vandy's sister is Sarah Hagel. She said Sarah has a hard time keeping a constant supply of mohair too.

Talk to Luke, Vandy, or Emily at Sheridan Leather Outfitters. They should be able to help you out.

built a saddle on a flex-tree?
Elton Joorisity replied to Mike Craw's topic in General Saddlery Discussion
I kinda get the feeling that sitting in the corner watching and listening to Steve and Gummy might be way more entertaining than some girls are!!!! Greg's got a pretty good story about a chap order from an actor!(at least that's what I was told) We'll just say that the actor is Asian!! -
Anyone use Bill's trees?
Elton Joorisity replied to Elton Joorisity's topic in Saddle Supplies, Tools & Trees
Thanks guys. Sounds like I have another order coming up and I'll get to use it. Now just to find time. -
I wouldn't say I'm a veteran braider but I have a knock off of the Hansen string cutter that the Hutterites traded for a bottle of vodka
-
Is that a mohair mecate? If so where do you buy your cord???
-
Anyone use Bill's trees a lot? Emily at Sheridan Leather Outfitters called me on Wednesday to inform me that I had been drawn to have the chance to buy a tree from Bill. Of course I jumped at the chance to buy it. Now to find the time to build another saddle!!!!

Steve, I was told today that AAA Taxidermy in Calgary carries(d) Dextrin. I had meant to ask you about using it but then you had to go. -

bobbin cases for my Nakajima 280L
Elton Joorisity replied to Elton Joorisity's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Thanks Greg. I found 92 thread at Central Sewing in Edmonton. I'll try that tonight. Another thing I noticed is that these new cases are harder to get in the hook than the old one. It's not the bobbin tension I'm having trouble with, it's getting enough top tension.
