You gotta try vinegaroon. A gallon of distilled white vinegar. Two steel wool pads. Put them into something you can cover and be able to dip holster, belt, etc. Do not make airtight. Some gas is produced by the contents. Takes a week and a half to two weeks. I know, I know. But you will have a dye that dyes almost instantly and all the way through. You canot scratch it off. Submerge the piece of leather and when the bubbles stop and the leather sinks, you are done. Let leather dry normally. And the good part, it will not dye the hands. Might get dingy looking but it washes off easily. You can dye some imagination into leather. The corners, the bottom, the top. Guaranteed a straight line .

J Hayes, you were very close with all my bad information. I had installed a new needle backwards. Point down but backwards.. That simple. Duh. Learnin'.

'Fraid I don't know what the "hook" is relating to the Cobra. I believe I have the biggest needle installed. Came that way with a sample of four pieces of leather sewn together. I would suppose with the 277 thread..But I will check the timing.

I will call Steve in a few hours but I thought I woulld put the question out for some answers. The answers may help someone now or later. My new (really new) Cobra 4 has thread problems. A fraying problem. I am sure it is not me . 277 nylon bonding. Looked at the pictures a couple of times and threaded the machine a couple of times. The tension problem seems to be when the thread emerges from the lower tension position and,of course, everything goes down hill from there. I have lesseed the tension and I have tightened the tension at this position and a few times more in between. I cannot see any burrs or anything else that would cause this. Any body experience this or have an idea?

Call The Old Leaksville Gunshop in Eden, NC. Talk to the owner, Barry Carter. I bought a Cobra but he knows where a very good Aerostictch is located. I could not get into your e-mail.

That looks easy to build. Simple container that the thread runs through.

I am ordering a Cobra 4-P. Talked (e-mail) to Steve about a common problem with most machines that sew heavy leather; needles stick anf lift leather. Steve said it is dry leather. Occured to me that the heat may be a problem. Guess not. In my research, I find that some hand wax their bobbin thread when filling the bobbin. I may wait and add later if needed. Do you sew a long straight line and fast? How quick does the needle heat up?

Dirtclod, what machine do you have and what are you sewing to make such heat?

I will be ordering a leather sewing maxchine in a week or so. I have done a lot of research and I cannot determine the need for a wax pot to add to the machine. I would like to know who has one with their machine and those who wish they had bought it.
