  1. Yes, it is stone. At the rpm of the dremel, it will be smooth. Won't work with soft, thin leather. I like Dwight's idea. Gonna try that one. 'Course, one still has to do the edges with something. I use the edger, bone with an antler point to roll the edges down, then the dremel. Then the dremel with beeswax/parafin.
  2. Are we talking belt slots as in a pancake holster? The one on the right.
  3. I use this. http://www.sears.com/dremel-114-952-3-8-inch-aluminum-oxide/p-SPM2156142101?prdNo=7&blockNo=57&blockType=G57
  4. I am watching Al Bane and the C4. Go to 28:30. I can tell when the needle gets to BDC, but he says 3/16 above and he moves the needle a lot more than 3/16". What am I missing? I got pretty good timing 265 CI V8 Chevys. 'Course that was TDC or before.
  5. I have watched the video a number of times. Other than imbedding the picture in my mind, what mark, landmark, or point do you determine BDC?

  7. Mine works fine for the price. http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/home/department/tools/31564-144.aspx
  8. I pour the WeldWood into squeeze bottles and I can apply with accuracy and consistency. I tried the WeldWood gel and that was a mistake. Messsssyyyy!! The original WeldWood is thin and I get it spread on the leather fast but I have not had the bleed thru. It does dry a mite slow, but it does hold.
  9. End of discussion? I believe that the Cobra 4 and the others will sew. I believe there are 927 ways to thread these machines to sew. I believe you have to find your combination. Needle, thread, tension, leather, lube,....heck, I have noticed when my thread hangs up on the spool even a little bit, it creates awful tension on the thread at the discs...if you have it threaded as from the factory. Kinda touchy sometimes. I think I have rid myself of most all the touchys.
  10. There is a "fix". I struggled with the tension, thread drag, skipped stitches, and flat laying bobbin thread. So I started experimenting. The final result is no tension. Both spring nuts backed off all the way. Just enogh not to vibrate off. I thread through the top eyelet, then over the top tension disc (snap it in) and straight down to the bottom eyelet. Wind counter clock wise 3/4 of the disc and out to the "spring" eyelet and up to the take up arm. The rest as usual. I adjusted the bobbin tension per instructions from Massive. I changed from nylon to polyester. 277 on top and 207 on bottom with a 24 or 25 needle. Learning to tie off rather than back up. Skipped stitches are history. I have no short and long sitches. Just operator errors. Price does not include handguns:)
  11. How did you do such a neat job on the belt slots? A punch for the total hole?
  12. I did a holster with the airbrush and an aerosol can. Looks real good. I believe it is a Badger model. I might spring for an inexpensive DA airbrush.
  13. Katsass, that is one of my big problems. I have been making one thing at a time and it is awful to wait for cement to dry, leather to dry, dye to dry, And with a Cobra 4, sewing can get really fast. But as the weeks (I know, I know) have passed, I am learning that if you hurry this craft, stuff happens. I have begun to get requests (money) so maybe I can start on some thinsgs and try to co-ordinate the production.
  14. I thought I had a problem with instant gratification I put what leather I need dry in front of a slow fan. And I have ruined some leather with really hot water. Started this leather thing recently after years of cowboy shooting and all the other shooting disciplines. It is interesting to learn the nuances of the craft. What will work and what won't work and what works the best for you. The weather here is about 2' of less snow at one time, humidity gets almost unbearable, but the fall and spring is beautiful. And I miss my mountains.
  15. Contact cement on everything. I don't sew much under a total of 4-5 ounce veg tan leather but with no problem. If the piece isn't too thick, say 10-12 ounce total, I sew after 20-30 minutes with no problem. I do use saddle soap w/glycerin in the lube pot and that may be whata is doing the trick. Do you use tape on thick stuff, say putting together an 8-9 ounce with a 4-5 ounce?
  16. I use gel contact cement. Messy. There are a number of water soluble contact cements out there including the 3M stuff. The water soluble can be used from a squeeze bottle which would be very handy and the clean up should be great. Planning to pick up some.
  17. Cut two slots somewhat close to each other in the middle. Then cut a slot on each end. Thread strap.
  18. Remedy ignorance here, please. What chisel? I also punch the holes and use a straight edge and utitlity knife making several passes so not to over shoot the hole. Actually, most all belt slots speak of handmade. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee189/redcent69/Random%20pictures/IMG_0105_zps9075c616.jpg
  19. Ain't tried the DA yet but hitting the gas pedal while controlling the gas with the same pedal will cause me problems for a little bit.
  20. I airbrushed this yesterday with a really cheap airbrush. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee189/redcent69/Random%20pictures/IMG_0105_zps9075c616.jpg Mine is a single action air brush. It is a siphon type. I did buy and may try today to airbrush with a larger gravity fed spray gun. The double action airbrush is a little harder to handle but it will be wanted once you advance in skill.
  21. Now lets see if i can do this very neatly. Didn't plan it but they ended up together, kinda. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee189/redcent69/Random%20pictures/IMG_0105_zps9075c616.jpg
