Show Off! Request. Lets See Your Work Space!
Tim Schroeder replied to Ronin101's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
My workshop is in my formal dining room. My wife won't let me let it get to out of control. One question I have about stropping. I use a leather wheel on the side of my wet stone sharpener. Three revolutions on each side and the blade is back where it should be. Effortless stropping for me. Does anybody else use one of these stropping wheels? The one tool I'm looking forward to getting is a Bell Skiver. I skive everything by hand and it really looks like crap because it is not smooth enough. I need lots of tools that would make things faster. Thanks Tim -

St. Peter Bible Cover

Hi. I copy the images on a copying machine after I carve them and cut a 1/4" hardboard figure to match them as close as possible. Then lay the pieces over the carvings with a heavy weight on them and then spray the dye. Then a coat of Wyo-Sheen to block the antique. Wyo-Sheen from Sheridan Leather is the best total blocker I have found if you are using an antique on the carving to highlight the details. If you use satin sheen or super sheen two coats are usually needed and the antique will still tint the natural looking leather color just a little bit. You could also dye the background with trimmed sheep skin and cut it in close with a brush around the figures. If dyeing with sheep skin or spraying with a gun I use 4-6 thin coats sometimes more sometimes less. More thin coats will produce a more even finish. I usually thin my Fiebing's dye 2-3 parts thinner and 1 part dye Thanks Tim. -

Here's some pictures of the finished bible cover. Don't know about the antiquing on the figure carving. Anyway it's done and my A/C tech will be happy since he fixed my A/C last summer. Nice to be able to barter for services. Learned alot on this project. Ready to try a Badled Eagle busting out of a American flag airbrushed on one of my tournament backgammon boards.

Had to try them again. Not sure how much better they are. St. Peter looks like he might make it tough to get thru the Pearly Gates. Faces are turning out to be pretty tough to make look good.

Hi James. I worked on the beard a little bit. Here is a picture of the back of the bible cover. Still have a hard time even seeing the faces with serious cheaters on so the faces are difficult. I will keep trying on the figure carving but it is mostly frustrating. Thanks Tim

Hi. Thanks. The outside is 3/4 oz. and all the inside is 2/3 oz. all from Tandy. The manger at the store near me is an old buddy I played pro soccer with back in the 80's. Really wanting try some of the Herman Oak. Thanks again Tim -
Hi. Yes the left side is an expandable pocket. This notepad holder was for a real estate broker, one pocket for cards and one pocket for clients cards. Pen and pencil holder. The outside is 3/4 oz. with a 2/3 oz. liner. The expandable pocket is out of 2/3 oz. with a nylon liner and a piece of thin poster board for a liner. The outside has a stiffener like the back of a note pad. Here is a picture of another one with the same pocket. Sorry about the picture. It's an old one before I figured out how to size them. Be glad to help any way I can. Thanks Tim

Any way I can help, Let me know. That pattern is the same as the cover of the Tandy leather Sheridan Style Carving. I drew the pattern to fit what I needed but used the cover as a reference. That cover is as good as it gets for Sheridan style carving. After you draw a couple you will get the idea. Let me know how you want me to send it. Thanks Tim -

Hi. Thanks. The outside is 3/4 oz and the inside is 2/3 oz. I put a cardboard stiffner in it with a 1/2" strip of leather around the edges to make it look a little thicker. The light weight leather helps keep it light. Thanks again. Tim -
