  1. Do you need full length elastic down the sides?
  2. I keep tiny shards of veg tan in a tin for smearing glue into those little nooks and crannies... Then just chuck the sticky bits. Guaranteed I won't have cleaned the applicator :D
  3. Sorry for the tangent, but I like the little card holder... What thickness leather is it, and it almost looks wet-formed but i'm guessing it has just had a bone folder in it?
  4. Same here. Using the same cloth stops you using too much out of the tub. I used it to good effect on a gun stock after stripping with Nitromors... Looks excellent! And you get a pretty huge tub for the money. Sorry, can't comment on the other stuff mentioned.
  5. Have you looked at Le Prevo? http://www.leprevo.co.uk/hides.htm
  6. Also... Are you gluing the bits?
  7. Yep, pulling thread too tight, as mentioned. The thread does look very heavy for the leather? What's the long piece btw? Is it a money belt?
  8. Hmm.. Just had a go at this. Would be rude not to use some of the cutlery we've just replaced :D Anyway, I used a fork as the neck of it seemed the ideal angle, based on what my existing beveller looks like. It cuts I used more or less the same method, but I don't own a belt sander, so used a Dremel with assorted cutting and grinding tools. It needs a bit more work, maybe a wider 'V' groove, but i'm just over the moon that I managed to make a tool that actually works! Thanks for the thread
  9. Welcome from Fife!
  10. I've started making some key fobs for a local kids' cancer charity, but I need to know a ballpark figure. They're all made of 4mm vegtan, simple oblong shape with curves and a 30mm split ring. Also stamped with some personalisation if required. I've been asking £5 GBP, all of which goes to the charity. Too much? Too little? About right?
  11. Excellent! Wishing i'd thought about commission now lol
  12. http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii7/humperdingle/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20140213_151932-1_zpsccf2cb8a.jpg Apologies for the awful photo...
  13. I'll try to post a pic of the one he made me... A nice, chunky affair.
  14. Excellent - They look great! Have you managed to try them out yet? How fast was that BTW!
  15. Toolerlass, a chap in the UK made me a great burnisher to my spec. I told him what width of slots I needed, the shank diameter for drill (I used an ancient 1/2" chuck drill) Cost me £15. Can put you in touch with him if you like?
  16. Indeed. We get that a lot in the UK.
  17. http://s260.photobucket.com/user/humperdingle/media-full/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsc03fe8c2.jpg.html Thanks for the ideas :D Anyway, decided to try one out...
  18. http://www.shotgun-s...tender-10-p.asp I want to make one of these but i'm mentally struggling with the end piece. I'm picturing a wet-moulded piece for the end which tucks inside the main piece, glued and sewed all round but the sewing would need to be a 'box' type... Is that right? Instead of having elasticated fabric at the bottom, this would be left with just laces and holes to tighten. Anybody made one?
  19. Hi, yes it is. It's usually sold in a pretty big tub but I use it for so many applications.
  20. Hi, I suppose it depends on the leather, but I put Aussie Leather Conditioner on my leather boots. Snow just falls off and no rain seems to get in, either. This Aussie stuff is great, really. I stripped an old gun stock with Nitromors, rinsed it, and applied a few coats of the conditioner, applying gentle heat from a hairdryer between coats. Looks like a perfect oil finish!
  21. OK, had a go at a prototype today... Edges unfinished, natural leather, held together with Chicago style screws so I can take it to bits... Holds 3 boxes nice and snug... I'd designed it to fit actual boxes of 25 rather than loose, as I wanted to be able to have 3 different loads, separate within the bag. http://s260.photobucket.com/user/humperdingle/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20140118_154219_zpsc7e52c40.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1 http://s260.photobucket.com/user/humperdingle/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20140118_154247_zps31bb9047.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0
  22. Hi, thanks for the reply. I've done a lot of searching but was hoping there was a specific name. I suppose it could be custom-made for this company. Lots of similar items, but not quite.
  23. http://www.thesportinglodge.co.uk/shop/products/purdey-oak-bark-leather-brass-key-fob.htm To find the brass hardware in these key fobs? Remarkable price for a key fob (!)
  24. Yes, carving is lovely!
