  1. What colour is it going? Dark grey or black could be caused by tiny flecks of iron-based material?
  2. I made my wife a bag of very similar gusset design and it wasn't a pleasure to make :D
  3. Sometimes it takes less time to restart than faff-about trying to make alterations. Yes, i've chucked a few :D
  4. It's a 'mystery' braid... check on youtube for a tutorial
  5. I use mine mostly for decorative lines these days... http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=55836&hl=
  6. Thanks, it's so simple even I can do it :D My tooling is awful (yep, I tried a 'G') and it wan't good. I can't imagine making the 6 they wanted that way, but these stamps are so much quicker. Since then, they ordered 'P' x 6... might have to invest in a full alphabet!
  7. I had a request for drinks coasters with a large letter 'G' on them... not owning any large (2" or so) stamps (are they even available??) I decided to buy a metal door letter, glued to a plate and pressed in a vice... Quite pleased with the result on this 4" trial piece...
  8. It's an old Jedi money trick :D $59.95 in the eye of some shopaholics makes them assume the item is closer to $50 than $60. Therefore, if they buy, say, five items at that price, their brains will tell them they've spent $250 and not $300 A virtual saving of $50! Smart shopping
  9. I leave lots of my smaller stuff natural apart from neatsfoot and Resolene. Just made a small pouch and it almost looks bleached it's so light in colour! I like the natural, gradual change in colour
  10. Yeah, I'm not sure it's the vinegaroon itself, or some fumes from the leather/vinegaroon reaction. Not sure tbh... i'll post back next time I use it. I'm not normally asthmatic and weather doesn't affect me in that way.
  11. Hi, what about various key fob designs?
  12. Just finished 'cooking' my first batch of vinegaroon... just a jar for the moment. It's been sitting for 10 days, i've tried it on some natural veg tan and it worked as i'd hoped, so happy with that. However... my chest has been feeling a bit wheezy. I suppose it may be because I was trying it out inside the house, so not a huge amount of ventilation. Does anyone else have any issues like this when using vinegaroon?
  13. Love the airbrushed colours. Not so keen on the black strap, but that's just personal preference. Lovely
  14. Aah, now, it isn't a press in perhaps the way you think. I've worded it incorrectly. It's basically an engineers' vice, but I can get much more pressure with it than the thing I was using before.
  15. I've been using something akin to a drill press vice to press my stamp tools onto veg tan, but never seemed to get good results, but just got myself a little 'proper' vice, and it's a complete revelation :D Superb '3D' effect and detail I hadn't previously achieved.
  16. A little possibles bag which took me pretty much a whole day! Re-made the exact design recently, looking much neater and only took a couple of hours and zero sweat :D
  17. You could also use 'Chicago screws', which are removable and reusable.
  18. Ourjud, if you want to contribute a fiver or so toward p&p, I can send you enough natural veg tan to maybe make a couple of minimalist wallets. It'll be a bit thicker at about 3mm, but might help until you can buy more. It's very light in colour but can easily be darkened with olive oil. Let me know by PM.
  19. Yep, veg tan will give you better results. Have a look at Nigel Armitage's YouTube video of small wallets if you haven't already - it'll give you an idea of how much 'better' veg tan is to work with.
  20. Post up a Pic of some of your work AND a Pic from the internet of what you're trying to achieve.
  21. Thanks. All sounds a bit like 'old fashioned' photo developing! I seem to remember using a vinegar-smelling stop bath then, too.
  22. I'm going to try this vinegaroon stuff :D Do you make a solution of baking soda?
  23. **Like**What thickness did you use?
  24. My workplace gets stuff delivered on pallets. Very often, layers of stock are separated by thin card/thick paper sheets of 4ft x 3ft. Ideal for the same reasons you use the newspapers. I have rolls of the stuff :D
  25. Very nice - might try one of those.
