Nice work, especially on that 15th-century scabbard!

Keep a workshop and/or an inspiration journal. I will use mine (an extra large Moleskine journal) for collecting interesting scraps from magazines (ads, fashion photography, etc.) which may inspire new pieces. Another use – and a very important one, at that – is sketching up these new designs and recording the exact measurements of finished pieces, as well as comments and suggestions. I do make cardboard patterns, but these tend to get lost or damaged over time, and it's proven VERY handy to have everything neatly in one place for future reference. Oh, and add a date to your sketches. It'll be fun to browse through your old journals and see what you were up to years ago. Maybe that piece you never actually got around to making a few years back will at once make perfect sense then.

Like a cobbler's last ... a wooden dummy to aid in shaping the leather. Is there a better term for it?

The crease is about 13 mm wide, I think, but you could get away with much less. I have made lots and lots of smaller things, but this happened to be my first larger bag. I'd say go for it, it's well worth a try. By the way: I simply formed the gussets over a last. Thank you!

Thanks, guys! The whole bag is made from 8 oz. shoulder. There was no need for skiving the edges, this stuff wet-forms and stitches like a dream.

Hi everyone, this is my first ever e-book reader case. I kind of like the outside, but struggled some with the inside. The lining (thin chrome tan, grain side down) turned out alright, but I didn't have the best kind of leather at hand for the portion that actually holds the reader in place ... and I should definitely have taken a bit more care with the inside edges. Well, lesson learned. Thanks for looking! Adam

I like it! I had a tool roll like that to store most of my tools ... but the collection did soon outgrow it.

Well, here's what I ended up with. No work of art, but it does the job. I thought it would be nice to match the color of a similar holder thingy I made for my hole punches.

Yup, that's basically what I was thinking about. I just think I'll make it from leather. I have lots of loops on my wall already, but I'd like to make things a little bit more modular in order to have some room for new purchases. My tool storage has become much more crowded lately ...

Thanks for your input! Well, unfortunately I have no drawers on my bench. I think I'll have to try a solution that will conform with my plywood tool wall. I'll post a pic of the result, when I'm done.

Hello everyone, I recently added some more pricking irons to my collection. How do you guys and gals conveniently store these? Tool roll? Piece of leather with loops for the irons and two holes for hanging that onto the tool wall? I thought either that or I would design a case or pouch of some sort. Looking forward to any kind of inspiration and clever solutions! Adam

DavidL, I think the handmade goods thing on Kickstarter has already exploded. Austyn, no offense meant, but you probably ought to raise your standards (stitching, edges etc.) if you want to compete with other leathercrafters. Good luck for your pledge and may your dream come true!

Hello! After being a long-time lurker on the forums, I'm finally ready to take one step forward and show off one of my works. It's a medieval girdle purse for my girlfriend, not quite authentic, but I think it'll compliment her reseda green and brown reenactment dress nicely. The things I don't like about it are the knifework and the beveling on the flap and around the decorative opening in the belt loop. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with it, especially with the stitching and the hue of my homemade red leather dye. Hope you like it! Cheers, Adam
