  1. Re the welt - Probably, it would stop the blade from cutting your lacing. I also keep away from rivets in areas where the blade is likely to touch so it doesn't blunt. Happy leathering :-)
  2. Interesting blade , what sort of knife is that? I like the simple design, is the leather moulded at the handle end? You coulD work on your stitching. What sort of awl are you using and what sort of stitch. Check out some of dangerous beanz video tutorials on stitching they are awesome !
  3. It looks okay dude. From the photos it looks as tho the pouch is much bigger than the blade, was there a reason for that? Would you consider wet moulding the pouch part and sewing it on in one piece? it would stick out less and you could do it with a single row of stitching and no cuts. Also I would try and make the top and bottom loops out of the back of the sheath and fold it over and stitch thru if you see what I mean. To tidy up the rear and make it smooth so nothing rubs. Did you bevel the edges some of the still look quite square. This would help the slicking / waxing. Or edge kote in a contrasting colour like black maybe. Just my opinion hope it helps. Happy leathering !
  4. Has anybody got plans for an ark?

  7. My first knife sheath made from some off cuts I had kicking about. Should stop the blade blunting in my toolbox I hope. Any thoughts would be appreciated as I am still very new to this game !
  8. Nice pony dude ! I made my own too like a saddlers clam out of oak barrel staves from an old whiskey barrel.
  9. Greetings ! Just reading this site will expand your knowledge several fold. If you have a problem with anything specific just start a new thread - somebody will have the answer and help theyre all very friendly. Enjoy !
  10. Nice, I particularly like the lettering on the first governor holster. Was it stamped or did you tool it ?
  11. Hi, hope you find this place as interesting as I do !
  12. Hmmm never thought of it like that.... Perhaps some stainless steel chaps with suede tassels ?

  15. Jrharres I think it's stronger stitching the keeper although i can give you no evidence to prove it and looks much better, kind of more organic. Wscott the overstitch on the edge gives more strength on top of the two double stitches at each end to hopefully ensure the belt will last a lifetime. The stitching should look better in a few days when the stitch holes have tightened up a bit. Thanks for the comments :-)
  16. This article is really interesting is there any update ? Have you considered a sharpening for dummies? K
  17. Hi everybody, I have been lucky enough to be watching a master at leather at work for over 10 years before having a go back in 2003 under instruction when I made some kit for work. Other than the odd pouch I didn't really do anything until last year when I made a camera strap for a colleague. That went quite well and I seem to have the bug ! I recently finished a belt that I posted on the show off thread, and I am going to try and concentrate on belts for a bit and hone my skills and hopefully sell a few ;-). I love working with natural materials although my original background is in engineering and metal. I use the end of a table in my kitchen but I am planning to expand slightly. I recently made my own saddlers clam out of some old oak whiskey barrel staves that has turned out nice. I look forward to swapping ideas and opinions and looking at some lovely work ! Have fun and be happy !

  19. Hi there, how did you apply the text and design ? it looks burnt on which is very interesting. Did you consider a border along the edge to set it all off. Is there any reason you chose to rivet instead of stitch ? What sort of leather did you use? What sort of buckle?
  20. I've not been using this forum for long but don't let that stop you from being brutal ! This is the first belt I have made with a bit of guidance from a friend. It's 4mm Italian bridle in hazel ! I am quite pleased but there's always something that can be done better. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed making it !
  21. Here we go Poor quality photo but you get the idea !
  22. Nice pony dude ! I have recently made a saddles clam that does the same sort of thing but is much simpler. I used some old oak barrel staves from a whiskey barrel that was scrap and chamfered them down a bit. I used 2 m8 bolts to hold it all together and some drum wingnuts to adjust the tension that look pretty nice. I like the way I can use it just about anywhere and it is very simple and clean. I will try and load a picture - not sure how to do this. The option seems to be greyed out !
