  4. I am wanting to embroider a persons name or initials on leather projects, mostly using garment leather an upholstery leather. I was at the sewing shop an they did some on 5/6 oz soft chrome tan an it turned out great but, it did seem to work the machine harder. Is there a embroidery machine made for leather ?

  11. Thank you all. I've tried everything an I guess its just the leather. Its lightweight 5/6 but tough. I guess it has its place but checkbook covers is not one of-em.
  12. I was wondering if I need a special sewing machine to make gloves. I have a CB4500 now. does anyone know where you would even find a pattern for gloves ?

What I would do is take and get your leather wet wet, dip a small sponge in water, apply your mahogany dye full strength to the sponge, go to your leather an just put small dabs all over, let that dry without wiping, for about five minutes ( this will give u the darker Antique highlights. After the five minutes take an get your sponge wet again an apply your dye to sponge, pat some of the dye off on a piece of paper towel then dye your leather, continues wiping until you get the desired look. It will give you that antique look you are looking for an pretty well match your first picture. Like others say every hide dyes differently, but you can control the color with a wet sponge on wet leather. Do not dilute the dye. the wet sponge will do the job.

  16. I bought some water buffalo hide an that stuff is beyond stiff. Is there any thing to make it more pliable ? I made a checkbook cover lined with pigskin lining an it stiff. ANY THOUGHTS
  17. I think I found the problem. I think the rivet shaft length is to long. I am trying to set them in 7/8 oz strap. I think I am going to have to get a shorter shaft length for this leather. Am I on the right track or do you recommend I use a different brand rivet. I am using the rivets for attaching the buckle end of the belts, are they strong enough ?
  18. I bought some jiffy rivets the other day 7/16 th shaft solid brass an when I try to set them they,( the caps ) just smash in. I am using a rubber mallet. Is that the wrong hammer to use or are jiffy rivets just that cheap. What am I doing wrong ?
