Take a quart jar, stuff it with steelwool pads, about 4 to 5 #0000 pull them apart, stuff in jar, fill with apple cider vinegar and let sit for 7 days, strain into another jar, I use denim. An you will have nice dark black dye

For a rich black. You cannot beat vinegaroon . I let my vinegaroon sit for 7 days before straining an using, gives a very rich black that, dyes will not match. The best thing is, it will never rub off no matter how hard you rub

The bag is machine sewn, an as far as value thats in the eye of the beholder.

In my opinion the Coach hand bags are not anything special. You are paying for the name.

By the way buff by hand with soft cloth, buffing wheel creates to much heat and will ruin your finish

I have great success with resolene 40/60water to seal the leather after dye dries, about five coats. Never use mink oil, it's bad for leather. The best conditioner I have found is Aussie.

I have not made a backpack before but would like to try. What weight leather would you recommend an what type leather to use.

Good job, instead of a rope, sew about 1/2 inch closer an run it through a rein rounder. I wish I would of stayed with leatherwork when younger. Thumbs up

what works great for me with veg-tan tooling leather is. bevel the edge ( both sides ). dampen the edge, rub with saddle soap an hand burnish with a pair of your blue jeans, apply wax and hand burnish a little more. This gives me a wonderful looking edge. The only time I use a motorized wooden burnisher is when working with latigo or harness leather.

How To Machine Sew A Buckle And Dee To A Collar?
wlg190861 replied to lightingale's topic in Sewing Leather
Copper, stainless steel or solid brass rivets are the way to go. You can sew for looks but, rivets are the way. Do not use plated steel rivets. Thread will rot and come apart long before a well set rivet will ever come apart. You can find 100 year old straps and the copper rivets are still intact. -

Sewing Between 1 And 2 Layers Of 5 Oz - Cowboy 3200 Best Way?
wlg190861 replied to BDAZ's topic in Sewing Leather
I have a Cowboy 4500 an have no problem one two or even three layer. you need to use a smaller needle for 207. You need a 23. I have my bobbin tension almost all the way tight and the rest of the tension is done on top. Like was mentioned test on a piece of 5 oz and get it set right and you should have no problem -
What I mean by pattern making is, how to measure a person and create a custom pattern

Portage, Wi. I have a pattern, I need to learn more on sewing. I have a Cowboy 4500 an I am also wondering if they make a hem plate for this machine . As to hem around edges.
