  1. I voted the hard way as I still have my training wheels on and didn't have a teacher lol. I took an art class in high school, but that was years ago. I just picked up a starter kit last year and did a couple things then stopped. I recently had a couple people ask me for rosary cases (the oval coin purses I posted in Show Off) and it started me wanting to create again. I have a couple books, just the ones from tandy by A. S., but nothing other than that and the internet for teaching. Nobody I know of does leather here other than one person who sells stuff out of his house. I think he may ask for payment for teaching and I am sorta broke lol. So I will just keep learning how I have been and using this site as a sounding board and information database.
  2. Good point. I am out in Idaho and I have never heard of a pro golfer from out here lol. Maybe some of the doctors or lawyers around here would buy one just to show off. hmmm
  3. Get the feeling he has used that trick before?
  4. I only have one question. Are the butterflies supposed to all be facing the toes? I see on one strap they face the heel. Other than that, nice job!
  5. Ok, have to add mine 1 skinless, boneless chicken breast (the kind in the bags that are seasoned are great for this) 1/2 medium/small onion chopped 1 small frying pan 2 leaves off and iceberg lettuce head Cook the chicken in olive almost all the way and then cut it into cubes and add the onion. Keep cooking till the onions go translucent and the chicken is done. Or add the onions later if you like them a little crunchy. Shred the lettuce leaves and put the chicken over. No need for dressing at all and its very low carb! Makes a great diabetic dinner if you want low/no carbs for dinner.
  6. Thanks for all the replies folks. I will have to get some measurements and get started on one. I will post a pic when I get it done.
  7. Would having two bulbs and frosted plexi be a better diffuser? Or is the one bulb sufficient? Which would be better, clear or frosted? What thickness did you use? Sorry for all the questions, I just don't want to build something and have it not work as well as something else. As for lumber, I have a lot of scrap so thats not really an issue atm.
  8. Hope this goes in this section, if not I guess it will get moved. I am looking into making a light box to trace patterns from pics. Has anyone made one and what type of light have you used? I thought about getting two 18" florescent (sp?) bulbs and making a box 2x3 using 1x4's and a frosted plexi top. Would I be better off using a round bulb fixture? And what about heat. Would either need a cooling fan? I know an incandescent bulb would get too hot. Any input would be nice. Or plans.
  9. Wow, just looked on the tandy site and saw a pic on the front of that book that had a golf bag. My question is, how much would you charge for it and who could afford it?
  10. They do sorta rock, don't they? The only thing that I don't like about them is the velcro close. Trying to think of another way to keep it closed without making a hole in the cover flap.
  11. Just downloaded Picasa2 and reduced the pics I have of the pieces I have done. Going to try to put some up for your enjoyment. Feel free to laugh loudly or toss comments, good or bad, at me. Here goes:
  12. Aye, the only good spider in my house is a dead one. *shudder* Looks like a Hobo which are extremely poisonous. I will kill those even if I see them outside.
  13. I also would like to get some of those doodle pages. I recently bought a load of leatherworking tools, stamps, dyes, books, patterns and a lot of other stuff. Some of the older pages are really cool. But not if it will get anyone's tail in a bind. I would be for making our own pages, but I admit that I have no clue as to how to design a pattern lol. When I stamp, its never the same even if I try to match on two pieces. And forget drawing. I am barely able to trace patterns.
  14. Very nice work. The bike pieces and leatherware on this site are fantastic. I am starting a celtic knot cross (the one on the free patterns section of Tandy online) that will be the second celtic piece I have tried. First one was just a border around a name on a checkbook cover.
  15. Sweet!! Thanks muchly. Guess I should have said it was a Polynesion (sp?) Statue lol.
  16. Welcome to the place! I used to live in Papaikou years ago. Still have relatives there too. I want to go back someday, have not been back other than to fly honor guard for my grandmas body for her funeral there. Lots of talent on display here in these electronic pages. And knowledge. I have gotten some good info I plan to use in the future. Have a sushi for me! The brown cone one, not the seaweed roll.
  17. Hey all, My brother wants me to make a roper wallet with Hawaiian geometrics on the front (have em from a shirt that belonged to my dad from when we lived there) and a tiki on the back. I was wondering if any of you have seen patterns or anything like that I could use as a pattern for one. Looked on google images and not really finding what I want. Most of the pics there are not straight on and I am not a good enough artist with a pencil to fix it For those who don't know, a tiki is a Hawaiian carved statue.
  18. LoL, sometimes I wish I could figure out how to turn mine on!
  19. Sweet deal. I will try to find that program Dave. Ken, I actually live in Chubbuck so not that far away from IF. BTW, love the work you have shown here. Its amazing. I think I may want to try one of those hats if you are still willing to send the info on em.
  20. Well, the upload attachments are not there at all and I can only edit recent posts. Not the one I started yesterday for instance. I would have put the pics there instead of on the last post of mine. Not really getting any errors posting, but just missing stuff like quick edit/total edit and stuff.
  21. Thanks! Its the same purse, the bird is hidden underneath the flap till you open it. Where does one get a pic reducer prog? Bannock County area. Familiar with it?
  22. Anyone here use Firefox? And if any do, how do you set it up to work with the boards. I have to use Explorer to post pics and edit posts correctly
  23. Cripes, signed in but still don't see that box. At least I think I am signed in cos I am replying to this post. Wonder if its my system here. More checking I guess. Thanks for all the help and tips so far folks. I will get those pics up if it kills me. Found it! I usually use Firefox for a browser, switched to Explorer and now it works. :ranting: Thats the purse that I made. The pics are too big to put in more. Gonna have to take smaller pics
  24. Wow! Sweet work on all those pieces. I hope I can get that good. Lots of hours of practice in my future
  25. I don't seem to have that box that you show at the comp at home. I see it here at work (don't tell the boss ) Hopefully will have the pics up tonight.
