  1. Camano and Racer, Thanks soooo much for your comments. This is the best darn place to learn and make mistakes. I appreciate your schooling. Next time I will line with a thin veg tanned leather...or none at all. Thanks again!!!
  2. Thanks Dan! Yeah, I think it was a bit ambitious of me to make my 1st holster without the pistol to fit along the way. Did you line your holster? I lined mine with a 2-3oz chrome tanned leather, and I'm thinking that may not have been such a good idea, fit wise. I'll know soon enough...after send it off - but since it is not a Christmas present, no need to hurry if off to the post office.
  3. Well...here are pics of my first holster. I made a paper pattern of the pistol, then transferred it to leather. I could not fit the holster while I was making it cause the pistol is in Nevada, and I reside in California. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will fit!
  4. Wow Lori...You've been transplanted from one extreme end of the country to the other...West Coast to East Coast!
  5. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

  6. A clever update to the fanny pack!! Nicely done!
  7. Looks like they are doing a fist bump...very hip of them
  8. Thanks Wild Bill. Although I'm native Californian, I lived for almost two years in Columbus, Georgia as a kid. I have such fold memories of that time! Just loved it!! I see you're interested in motorcycles...me too. I have a Road Glide. Do you ride??
  9. Great tips K - I'm a beginner too, so I appreciate your helpful hints. I absolutely agree with your last point..."Do stuff". I've learned alot experimenting on projects. Though, I've kept the my projects on the smaller side while building my confidence.
  10. In my town's Walmart, I found the 6oz flasks hanging on a merchandizing strip down the alcohol aisle. Very inexpensive.
  11. Howdy, Peter - At my Walmart, the stainless steel flasks are on the alcohol aisle hanging from a merchandizing strip. Kracker - Thanks so much for your kind comment. Josiamd - If I get a good tight fit, I do not cement the leather to the flask. However, if it's a loose fit, I cement. Respectfully, Hobbihorse
  12. Thank goodness, just got word the gal who requested the cat flask absolutely loves it.
  13. HaHa...Welcome! I got the bug when hubby bought me a Tandy's beginners kit for my Bday. Now we no longer have a kitchen table...it is my work station!
  14. Hi Peter, I buy my 6oz flasks at Walmart, and the 4 oz flasks on ebay.
  15. Howdy, Attached are pics of another couple of covered flasks. One is a whimsical cat flask for a gal who loves tabbys. The other is an image of a western holster. For some reason the folks I hang with requests lotz of flasks...perhaps that says alot about my friends - Haha! Check out some of my other flasks...http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?app=gallery&album=2394
  16. HaHa...I got my 6oz flasks from Walmart as well. I purchased the 4oz flasks that are also pictured on ebay, though I don't remember the vendor. They cost a little more than the Walmart flasks, but are a better quality. There are several venders to choose from.
  17. Hi Lori, I measured the height and circumference of the flasks and used that measurement to cut the leather, then trimmed it up to fit. If I cut to short to join the edges in back, I would cut a strip of leather and stitch both sides to fill in the gap (like I did on the back of one of my pictured flaskes http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?app=gallery&user=43733 with the name "Rose" down the strip).
  18. The Christmas crunch is on - Got lotsa projects on the burner.

I'm right there with ya. I'm 'trying' not to work Sundays but I may be on 7 days a week until the end of Dec.

  19. I am so sorry to hear about your frustration. The USPS lost my package of vintage craftool stamps valued at $200 that was shipped from a private party in North Dakota. The last tracking location was the Richmond, California hub. Despite my badgering anyone who would answer the phone, and filing lost mail forms, it was never found, and USPS basically said, "too bad". It was insured for $50, but the 30 day limit had passed. The sender was awesome, he was going to return my $200 and take the loss, but it wasn't his fault the Postal Service lost the package. He was a knife maker, and instead of craftools, I got a beautiful knife with an eagle carved into a torquoise-colored antler instead. I sure hope the sender will do good to you. It is a very unfortunate situation.
  20. Thanks Tboyce. I look forward to naking this!
  21. Great advice! Thank You!! I've gotten such incredable tips from this site, and my leather projects have improved as a result. Thanks again Tboyce, Hobbihorse
