If this is your first project, you need to open up your own business! great piece of work. I'm also new at this, but I think I'm going to have to practice for a few more years.
hello, I've noticed that on some people's projects that the stitching isn't in the crease of the molded area. isn't there a chance that the leather might lift up? thanks
hello folks, the couple of projects that I've done so far I've been using the satin sheen to coat it. does this protect the leather from the weather? or do I need to put a water proofer on it? and if I do need a waterproofer, do I use both? thanks
the reason I'm asking this question is that recently with the scrap pieces of leather I've been getting at the local hobby shop some of the leather that I'm using isn't too stiff. is there a rule of thumb as far as how stiff a sheath should be or is it a personal preference? thanks
very talented. every time I browse this site I'm always amazed at the talent shown. this just inspires me to try to reach the level that these people have achieved. keep em coming!
nice work. if you don't mind me asking, how'd you get your stitching groove so wide and deep? I use a stitching groover, but even after several passes, it is still shallow and very narrow. thanks.
Hello folks. I would like to put a stamp design on things like cell phone cases, knife sheaths, and maybe holsters when I get better at this leathercraft thing. my question is, do you stamp the leather first before molding, or visa versa? thanks
hello all, can someone give me any tips on attaching snaps? usually I'll mess up a couple until I get one to work. the the button won't stay still on the anvil which causes a lopsided strike. is there a better tool for this? thanks
Hi all, any advice on how to mark stitching holes in black or dark leather so that you can see it better? my eyesight isn't as good as it use to be. thanks
Hi all, are there special paints for leather? also can I use color markers for coloring? sealants to seal or protect colors from fading? any advice will be greatly appreciated!
wow winterbear, you sound like the csi of leatherwork. anyway the finish side is matt finish, not colored rigidity is somewhere in between. very easy to mold but softens up . on the rough side it's darker. Iill try and download a picture/s. tomorrow. thanks for responding
had purchase a bunch of scrapleather from a local craft store. I'm trying to identify it. maybe someone might know thw answer. it isn't too rigid, creases easily, and when I drill holes in it with my drill press the edge of the material kinda separates. thanks
