Thank you Tom.

That would make a terrible mess.

Looks like a Saddle tan antique base coat, then they took some black alcohol dye and wiped it on the edge and rim. Then rubbed it out with a cloth and saddle soap. You could also give it the saddle tan or whatever the base coat is, and then lightly burst the edges with black dye and an airbrush or sponge.

Colt W Knight replied to leathervan's topic in How Do I Do That?
I use these diamond shape chisels. I have them in 2, 4, and 6 prong versions. -

Oh okay. No, it is a 1992 D-16H. Basically a D-18V with a few less cosmetics. Super nice guitar. I am glad I was able to snag it when they weren't selling for a lot of money. -

I am always trying to find better ways to present my leather projects. I thought that a fitted felt bag would look nice -
I am working on my PhD now, but our annual Western Section animal science meeting is being held at Angelo State where I did my Masters work. Since I am going back to my old school, I thought I would make my Masters adviser a leather portfolio and give it to him at the meeting.

Stiffening Leather
Colt W Knight replied to Red Cent's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I can tell you that skin wrinkles in leather crinkle up and shrink when you heat dry them. But you probably aren't using this lower quality leather for your holsters to begin with. -
Sheep Shearing Shears Sheath
Colt W Knight replied to Rohn's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I have help shear hundreds of sheep, I can't imagine having to do it with hand shears. Worse than hand stitching a guitar strap. Nice sheath. -
I had all my big wood working tools shipped to shipping depots and saved money. Plus I didnt have to worry about sitting at home waiting for the driver to show up. Thanks for the drooling offer. Id still like to make one of the jams too. I stay so busy with my current position , I do t have much free time anymore.

Damn, I am going to be the only one left that doesn't have one before long.

I use one of those pro edge burnishers on my straps. They make a big difference. Cheap leather doesn't burnish as well as good stuff though.
-
They look like Schaller straplocks to me.

I really need one of these. I need to sale some more guitar straps.

100 Years Old?
Colt W Knight replied to Jimbob's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I build a lot of aged guitars, and I know how difficult it is to mimic genuine wear and tear. Good job, and its always great when the new owner is happy. -
Those are nice. I noticed your Tele:Strat ratio is off from your Photobucket account.

Pegasus Document Folder
Colt W Knight replied to leatheroo's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Nice tooling and color. What is the stitching on the left side for? Did you make the front and back covers separate pieces of leather?
