  4. Hi I am after a manufacturer of the enamelled "studs" that are used on bridles and saddle with the makers logo on it. It looks like a blind rivet (to me) but have not idea where to get them. I have a customer who whats to use them on a range of bridles she is designing so any help would be great. Also I am after some buckles I have enclosed pictures so if someone knows a supplier who sells in quantity again thanks.
  5. Hi I went to Singer home page and they have a parts manual as well as a operating manual you can download. Using a combination of the two I got myself out of strife. The parts manual was especially helpful as it showed how everything went together. It was all under the industrial machine section on the singer home page. Johanne
  6. Hi I also have one of these machines and the feed grips the little material from underneath have stopped moving so the material is not being advanced. Does anyone know how to fix this or what to look at or even if it is possible to do so myself, as I live in the middle of nowhere so a mechanic is not an option. Johanne

  11. Hi, I am after a set of sticks or preferably metal forms that you use to shape loops for belts and bridles on. I know you can make them but the list of things I have to do is extensive enough and I wonder if anyone had a spare set they would like to sell. I would prefer metal ones but I will settle for wood Here's hoping. Thanks Johanne
  12. Thank you for posting the videos really great to watch.

  15. love your work peter. Do you hold classes? And what do you use to cut your lace. Please do not say by eye using just a knife or I will give up Johanne
  16. Hi, A friend of mine collect horse bits and she recently got this one given to her. Is there someone her who could tell me/her what sort it is and anything else about it. If not can you reccommend someone who might know. Thanks in hope Johanne
  17. Thank you I did read your post (sorry got a bit muddled between who posted it) I was wondering if by using lime I was removing the colour/pigment of the animal. If the skin colour was stored in the upper layer with the hair cells than it makes sense why I keep getting yellowish coloured rawhide. All rawhide that I can purchase here, (Australia) which is made commercially is also that creamy colour, without bleaching, and I am trying to work out if using lime to remove the hair is also removing the natural pigment. I hope I am making sense. I am in awe of your braiding and very grateful for your instructional postsit is very much appreciated when someone with expertise is willing to share. Thank you Johanne
  18. so do you make your own rawhide or get it ready to go? if you make your own can I ask do you lime the hides or scrape the hair off. I keep seein quite a lot of interesting hide colours like your dark one above and I wondered if the colour was in the top part of the skin whi ch got removed when limed as I have never gotten rawhide any other colour than the yallowish white. I am getting some new hides shortly and wanted to preserve thei colour if possible. thankd Johanne
  19. Hi Beautiful as always. Is the darked rawhide died or narurally that colour add a really nice contrast Johanne
  20. Does anyone know what that electrical tool is that he is using ? Johanne
  21. Hi Thanks for your replies. Yes I think it was too wet so this time I didn't use any water I just gave it a very light wipe with rawhide creme waited a few minutes till it seemed to relax and then tried. Much better result and then I found out what you meant Ven, about the over stretchy bits when I tried to getting the thickness even. Bits slid under the blade with nothing coming off and then it would go to twice the thickness, very interesting, but I must say that cutting the lace down was a whole lot easier if I ignored the pile of broken bits on the floor. Braiding comes next that should be fun. Ven (I hope that I have your name right if not I'm sorry) being that I have another full hide of deer rawhide I would be really appreciative if you would be able to put up a sketch of which bits are usable and what to give to the dogs as chew toys. This might save me a lot of heartache if I just try to use the "good bits" Thanks again for the help at least I can now use some of the pre cut lace and I know never to go down that path again Johanne
  22. Hi Alan, Know that it is quite some time since you posted this but I just found it looking for some help. Quick question please. Does it matter how wide the cut is there the rawhide slides through ? I assume from the width of the rawhide you are cutting from that it hasnt been split so do you need a fairly wide split to allow for the thicker bits of the hide. Also is the rawhide dray when you are cutting it or is the hide cased? Thanks for you tutorials and help it is much appreciated. johanne
  23. I know a while has passed but I am haveing all sort or issues with some deerhide rawhide and I wondered if you could help I purchased deerhide rawhide precut into lace and also a deer rawhide uncut. I have tried to braid with the deer rawhide lace after it has been cased to a "al dente' and it breaks really easily. I cant thin it as it either breaks if I pull or bunches up under the blade as a sort of pulp. I cant thin or cut it if it is dry and it appears to have "tough" spots" There is obviously an art to using deer could you please give me some hints. I was hoping to be able to cut it very fine to use it for braiding as in your fancy quirt. I have used cow rawhide so I am not a total novice just this deer has me beet ...revenge of Bambi? Any help you could give would be much appreciated. Johanne
