  3. Hi I am trying to find a supplier for English Girth Buckes in stainless. I have put a picture below. Does anyone know who distributes these. Thanks in advance Johanne
  4. I sat down today and had a go at the browband. The outside leather is only 1/2" finished width and the lining about 1/4" (varies a bot) out on either side. My issue nor is that 1/2" plus a little for the bend does not want to bend I have tried to make a shallow groove on the inside along the centre to give it a natural fold line to follow but am unsure of how deep I should make this groove. My leather thickness is the same as on the one I am copying and it is nice soft leather I think it is the widthe being small which is making it harder. Am I on the right trakc. And thank you all for your help. Johanne
  5. Thanks foir the information. Just to clarify since the top becomes narrower because of the insert do I need to allow for this when stitching to the pad. I just thought that the insert would show more on the pad side since it is softer leather if there wasnt room allowed in the top leather for it? Hope you can follow my thoughts (I have trouble myself sometimes:) ) Johanne
  6. Hi, I am making a new bridle for my horse and I would like to do the padded/raised noseband and browband. I have a bridle I am looking at and I can see that there must be a "bead/strip' of leather which gives it the raised appearance and it is stitched on both sides. My problem is do I sew the two pieces, top and bottom padding together incluing the strip with more slack on the top than the bottom so that the "bulge" is outward. When I am looking at the noseband there does not appear to be any sharp molding around the filler so am I right in assuming that it wasnt wet and formed. Thanks in Advance Johanne

  11. Hi Ducky, I am in Australia as well and if you wanted to start without the outlay of a whole hide both Leffler and Toowoombah Saddlery (Queensland) will sell straps of most leaters cut to size e.g. 6" x length of hide. This might be a better way to go with your first samples. If you talk to the people at Toowoomba Saddlery (I find the quicker and less expensive than leffler) and explain what you want to make they will make sure you get the right leather for the job. Great people to deal with. Should also mention Birdsall Leather is great for straps/strips and they too will steer you in the right direction if you tell them what you need the leather for. I am in NSW nut if you need any help just let me know. Johanne
  12. Hi again, Thanks very much for that information. It is great to know firsthand. Kevin, from Springfield leather, has always been super helpful but I was always a bit hesitant in buying "packs" anywhere just in case I do get a bag of sscraps. Great I can go ahead and get some now I suppose the saying "one mans trash is another mans treasure". Have a great day Johanne
  13. Hi, I have been searching but I am unable to find who actually makes the range of bridles/headstalls sold by a well know USA Natual Horsemans who sells his own brand of halters and learther gear for BIG $$$ not sure that I should mention a name but PM me if you need more info. I do think that the workmanship and leather quality in his leather bridles is good and I would be interested in getting some similar items made to sell. Amyone have any ideas?? Johanne
