  1. I wet the leather enough to wrap it around the gun and pressing along the contour of the gun to form that shape. I'll use a boner to do this as well. Once that stitch line is established, and the leather is still a little wet, I flatten it out and continue with the process. About the time I'm done cutting the holster to shape, grooving for stitching, rounding the edges etc. it's still damp and I then dye. Let dry, then stitch. As I always say about this leather work, you line up six guys and ask them the same "how to" question, you'll likely get six different answers.
  2. I too think that stitch line along the contour of the gun has to be in closer to the gun...like on your crease line. Looks like a fine gun belt too.
  3. It looks great. I like that design. Usually that style of sheath tends to look bulky, but yours does not. Great job! May I ask which black dye did you use and how do you seal it?
  4. A retired LEO tells me he had much better luck with a pancake style mag holder, rather than the type we're discussing here. The tightening of the belt seemed to tighten the leather around the mags too.
  5. I like!! Those sharp points will prolly dog-ear before long....but that's an easy fix. Good job!
  6. For me, to v-roon after molding works much better.
  7. So there's no need to let the steel wool go rusty before it goes into the vinegar?
  8. Dean....I see you don't stitch along the trigger guard profile......just wondering why....?
  9. Thanks Rick...as a matter of fact, I bought a blue gun (SP 101) off Jeff about a year ago which has said rail. It's where I got the idea of gluing a rod to the top since I have no talent/tool to cut the groove.
  10. Good points.....I have noticed however that the front sight of the blue gun is wearing down some, but you're right, if I permanently glue the rod in, I may end up regretting it.
  11. Is it just me, or are v-roon projects a little more labor intensive to burnish? I find it so.....much more work then brown/tan dyes. Black has always given me problems, even Feibings USMC black...the edges want to stay more fuzzy.......takes more work to get them slick, even after the same amount of sanding I do on browns.
  12. I've been asked to make a sight channel in a Avenger style holster for a 1911. I would like to see the methods the various holster makers use to make one. I have been thinking of epoxying a 1/8" brass rod along the top of the barrel of the blue gun, then molding the holster to it. Am I on the right track? Thanks for your input. RG
  13. Nice one Noah! I didn't know you worked with smooth leather.....
  14. I think it looks great....very nice work. The belt slot looks a little far from the trigger guard, is there a reason for that? Not that there's anything wrong with that.....just wondering. R
  15. Beautious work as always!! Open carry wedding??? Just when I thought I'd heard it all.......
  16. A nice clean solid looking holster. I'm making a second one for a fella that wants to "give mine a try" and he specificaly asked me to leave the leather about 1/4" past the muzzle and round it around it (muzzle), for added protection. Looks pretty good too.
  17. Nice job.....do you carry it daily? Looks like it should last a good long time.

K man...is the Kel Tek P32 close enough in shape and size to use for an LCP holster?
  19. Especially for a left hander, ey?? Just funnin......looks sweet...is it dual action?
  20. It's MO that "giving" to the contour of your body, and "sagging" from the weight of a holster/gun, are two different things.
  21. Thanks, I tried that with this 14 oz. (1-1/2" wide) belt I just made for myself, no can do.
  22. That's one I won't buy in to. A regular flat belt will take on it's own "dip" after just a couple uses......to build in that dip, IMO, is a waste of time and leather.
  23. Looking good Noah! Has anyone ordered a holster with matching sheath yet? That would be pretty cool looking in your Apocalyptic style you got going on. (BTW...I have some AZ ironwood on it's way to me...gonna be doing a couple F-1s w/sheaths)
  24. Here is my "experiment" piece. Please try to look through my lousy vinegeroon job, but it turned out kinda rustic looking, and we both liked it. The belt leather is Wickett & Craig, and runs about .200 thick. Pictures here show it at about a week of wear so no real wear to report except for a small indent nake the holster made in the belt. As you can see the rig is meant for casual attire...in this case.......very retired.
