FOR SALE: Dummy guns for Holster Makers (lowered prices)
Rayban replied to BOOMSTICKHolsters's topic in Old/Sold
Boom...I know this sounds like a stupid one, but on the GP 100.....If I'm making a holster for a 6" barrel one, do I just add 2" to the barrel of the holster....is everything else the same? If the answer is "yes" then I want it. RG -

I'm needing to "rent" a Ruger GP100 6"...or maybe just a pattern?? Thanks!! -
Very cool ammo box......I did one for my Single Six (front page of my web-site, I didn't want to post it here) but not nearly as cool as yournz...... And hey.....you didn't waste nothin....those pieces you cut out went right in you scrap box, ci?? You'll have use for them sooner than later. Now get going on the matching holster and belt rig....times a wasting!!

Any of you saddle makers have an old brass rigging plate laying around doing nothing? I'm needing one for a project (not for a saddle) I'm proto-typing. I'll pay. Thanks! RG

Thanks Aaron, I was doing that b4 the wheel...using a 220 belt then going to the leather strop, getting "not bad" results. Now with the rouge wheel in between, I think that will be the way for me....it would be a real drag re-loading the grit wheel all the time.
-
I picked up a set of paper wheels yesterday, and after loading one with grit, and the other with rouge, I've been sharpening everything in sight. Got my round knife sharper than it's been since I've owned it, some other utility knives, kitchen knives, my edge trimmer, and even got new life from an Exacto blade I was about to discard. I have a ways to go yet, but the little time I've spent on it really has been encouraging. Before when I tried sharpening stuff, I usually made them duller.....not no mo.

Have you tried www.conchos.com ??

Very nice design...I like how you did both edges symmetrical since the blade appears to be too. Did you make the knife as well??

Gun holster shoulder harness
Rayban replied to Rayban's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Calling Lobo....come in Lobo..... I just now have the gun that I will make this shoulder holster for, utilizing the material you sent me. Any chance of some more pictures, of the back, both sides, etc. In other words, picture instructions. Thanks! RG -

Shorts, how bout a picture of this rig on somebody. I would like to see how the straps fit around the shoulders/arm pit area, etc. Thanks -
Btm. line is this...you sharpen/polish your awl blades when and if you have to.....with the BD, you simply don't have to, he's done it for you....as I would expect him to for the $25 he gets for them.
-
I'm only guessing , but you've never had a Douglas, correct? They are ready to go out of the box, period....and no, he is not my uncle. Why should you have to sharpen a new awl?? Only because the folks that make them don't know how to make them sharp, that's why.....I know I'm blowing here....but I was in the same boat as you, I just plain didn't know any better.......til I dropped $100 on a real awl/haft.
-
Bienvenido amigo.....did anyone tell you how on your first post you must bring beer?? You'll learn a bunch here, enjoy. May I be the first......with a proper welt and stitching....you won't need that rivet up at the top. I believe those were used primarily by machine makers to reinforce those threads that pull apart.... With the proper hand stitching technique, you won't need no stinkin rivet......looks much better too IMO. Just a pet peeve of mine, but your work is looking good, hope you enjoy the leather work as I know you're well on your way on the knife making part.

I had the exact same problem with the Osborn falling apart.....I bought the Douglas awl and haft, and it hurt ($$$$) till I started using it.......wow, is awl I can say. I talked to Bob a bit later to thank him for sending such a fine piece of work, and after describing to him the kind of work I do....and I hand stitch some everyday...he told me I may never have to have the awl sharpened. We'll see about that, but meanwhile, I just can't imagine a better awl.....

worth a look?? http://cgi.ebay.com/Saddle-Leather-Workers...93%3A1|294%3A50

That looks like a very nice saddle, you shouldn't have trouble selling it to someone else? Then now that you know what she wants, make it for her....but whatever you do, DON"T sell it to her for less than you originally agreed to.....that's what she really wants.

Sounds to me like a good idea.....I've had two inquiries recently on a holster for guns that were not available to me...this service could have saved the day. I don't think you would need to have 5 of each...maybe just 2 of the most sought after. The customer would just have to understand that the blue gun he wants is "out on rental" and will have to wait til it's available.
