  1. I wanted to try one in cocobolo and glad I did.....it seems to do a better job because it's a bit harder, thus slicker.....prettier too.
  2. AN inch away, you can see that you're gonna, or not, be dead nuts on ??? Damn, you're good!!
  3. Nothing to add here, ART has said it all....if you still think you messed it up too badly, cover it up with a $50 sterling silver tip....no one will notice.

I like thatun Will....very practical looking and looks like it would be easy to control.....
  6. Thanks Dave...very cool site, I'll be using it for sure!
  7. Lately I have the TV on in the garage to watch some of the tournament basketball games, but that's a hard way to get work done, especially during the last 2 minutes of the game, which can last an hour..... Usually I have the music on just loud enough so that if my wife calls out to me to do something, I can use the excuse that I didn't hear her on account of the music. "Don't blame me, blame the kids for getting this iPod for me...."

I have a Tandy swivel with a synthetic blade which does me just fine for my type of work. I had this oldie head knife gifted to me. It has no maker mark on it, all I know it's a carbon blade and I got it pretty darn sharp...can't see how I could get it to cut any better. So that's it....one of each......hard for me to imagine how one can use more than one at a time.....
  9. I kilt this giant frog then tanned his hide!!
  10. Like I said, line up six guys..... How did you do it, just rub the dry edges and burnish like you would normally do?
  11. Woolfe, after trying both options you are thinking about, here is what I would recommend to you: Try that felt head burnisher with wax method, but buy the head only. You can find a 1/4 HP motor that turns 1725 rpm all day long on Craigs List for about $20. Then buy the wooden one from Scott for $40...you can get an adapter to run it in the same motor for about $5......NOW TRY THEM BOTH. As was suggested earlier on this thread, if you line up 6 guys and ask them about their favorite burnishing method, you'll get 6 different replies. The only way you can find out which method is right for is to try them yourself. Again, after trying them both, I'm sticking with the wooden one....today.
  12. Great idea and you're off to a good start I would say...may I make a suggestion about your photography ? I am no expert for sure, but one observation I make...over and over again, is that a white or light background "steals detail" away from a dark colored item being photographed. Try using a more neutral colored background....
  13. I meant to ask, did you do the monkey fist on the lanyard? I want to learn that.
  14. Good sturdy stuff....looks like you're all ready to go to the dance!!
  15. Well lookie what I found in my shop last night....it's been sitting on a shelf, empty, probably all winter, but I now remember picking it up at a drug-store, where this was all they had. And I also remember that it WORKS just like any other contact cement on leather.
  16. Great looking...I think you'll find the holster being easier to make than the belt....I did. If you have the Will Ghormley patterns, it's SIMPLE!! Show us when you get there.
  17. I just bought this 45k knock off...I went to this store because I knew he had the Singer but the guy talked me out of it on account of parts being almost impossible to get.
  18. Here ya go.....cut off what you need for your burnisher and send the rest to me.... http://cgi.ebay.com/COCOBOLO-Wood-Turning-...93%3A1|294%3A50
  19. That image is quite clear in my mind....very classy. I think another good emoticon for you would be one that represents....."please don't bother to post on my thread unless you agree with me"......
  20. TK...do a search on the bay for "knife scales"
  21. I've considered being a pimp before....but not if I have to carry a fancy piece like that.....nahhhhh....forget it....
  22. I just made this one out of Osage... While Oak may not have as tight of grain as some other hardwoods, I believe that in short time and use, the grain would fill in with leather dust, stain, Tag, or anything else that comes in contact with it, and in time be just as slick. Also, finish it off with some real fine grit sandpaper, like 300-400, while it's turning. With you using it at 1725rpm or so, you'll get good results.
