Well there you go.... -
cowboy action holster question
Rayban replied to MADMAX22's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I believe that if you're making one for a gun that Will Gormley lists in his patterns, make it according to his pattern and you'll be close enough. When you do get the gun in hand, wrap it in plastic and wet mold it....IF YOU WISH TO, don't have to....but again, you'll be close enough. -
I've never used a head knife but want to learn. I thought before I go out and buy one I would see if anyone here has a used one for sale. PM me if you do...THANKS!! R

Will I be OK using a hard rubber surface, about 1/4" thick to surface a cutting/hole punching table? I was wondering what other surfaces are used my members of this forum. Thanks, R
-
As for thickness, why not see what current production knives are?

James, is it just one big pocket? If so, you may check out Tandy's Western Saddle Bags patterns, (they carry a few) and with a little modification here and there, you could get what you're after.

1st Holster - Thanks
Rayban replied to Twosons's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Two.... Three things I've learned about you... 1. You're pleased and excited about your first effort. 2. You've learned a lot about the process. 3. You're gonna do a lot more of them and get better and better at it. Note....that's not to say you won't screw one up now and then.....it happens. Good on ya!! R -
Lining Western holsters
Rayban replied to MackD's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Why is a lining req'd? Anyway, yes the entire lining should be glued to the outy...otherwise, the lining will start to stretch, snag, etc. and get all loosy goosy in there. You'll be stitching the liner to the outy, right? Tooling should be done b4 adding the liner. I'm not clear on what you mean in "C" -
Good job....but have you tried it out yet? Meaning , have you worn it? I'm just wondering if the gun isn't too heavy for just one belt slot on one side....just a thought.

Reason to appreciate the group we have here...

Chas seems like a very nice man...I usually avoid the Denver area when we go out to visit our son....he lives in Monument....but I will certainly try to stop by to meet him. -

On the other side of the coin..... I just got off the phone with Chas Clements of Aurora CO. who has been working with leather for 45 years, and he was gracious and kind, and answered all my questions and then some. What a difference a day makes! R -

What they look like? Picture please? -
I'm wanting to make a sap and slapjack for someone who collects them. I found a web site of a person who makes them as well as other leather items. I can see that he tries to make a living off his leather item sales, but compared to the talent on this forum, I would say his work is ave.......at best. Anyway, I can see that making a sap is not very difficult, in fact, they look pretty darn easy...I'm just looking for some basic do's and don'ts about them. I emailed him to ask if he would walk me through the process of making one, his reply to me was....."buy mine and resell it" Now, I'm sure I deserve that for something I've done in the past....or maybe as recently as last night.....but it got me to thinking of the contrast of that reply, and the sharing of information and the generosity I see on this forum.

I got a headache just reading the instructions...but wouldn't this be a wonderful project for someone handy with woodwork...sell kits to us poor leather folks....let's get somebody on it!!!
-
Tina, I see on ebay, they have a lot of replacement back/seat kits for them, so they must not be too difficult to take apart.
-
That is oor-some...what's the dimensions? With a should strap that would be a kick-ass Man Bag!!
-
I've been looking to do that to a wooden one for some time now....I figured you have to take the chair apart to do it right. I have a chrome one, but leather won't go good with that. Keep us posted.

I was thinking it would be too big myself...what do you think of the handle concept?
-
This is by a manufacturer that makes blade blanks...all kinds....that still have to be ground, heat treated, then final sharpened, then have handle scales applied. He's marketing this as a kitchen tool, but do you see any reason why it wouldn't make a good head knife? I'm liking the handle configuration. It's 8" x 3 1/2" I believe. Comments/critiques please.

...somebody needs a nap.....

I just went to the file on my desk top, picked a pattern and printed it out. From here I would reduce it down to the size I wanted...no trouble with percentages here, I was a draftsman in a past life......and copy it to that %....I then trace it onto the leather I'm about to make a mess of trying to carve it.....dpis??? I don't care about no stinkin dpis, they really don't come into play here for me....as you can see, the lines on the printed sheet are very good enough for the way I use these patterns.
-
That's what I found when I tried to download an image on their web site...but when I bought the patterns I wanted, then downloaded them per their instructions, everything was fine and very clear. I can then enlarge or reduce the pattern on my copier. Maybe they have refined the process now...I just bought my pattern the day of my first post about them. No problems.

Time for another Pay It Forward?
Rayban replied to TwinOaks's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
I mailed out thru USPS to France a couple months ago....a large envelope.....holster patterns....may have cost about $5 to mail within the US....to France it cost about $13 if my memory serves me. It didn't hurt because the person I mailed to paid for shipping. -
...well dahhhhh....that's the ticket....got any contact info??? And thanks!!
