  1. Hello all. I decided to fix my neels model 5's motor today. The problem is the speed control shaft has broken and as there is no knob on the outside of the cover I cannot get a screw driver in the non-existing slot anymore. I am having a lot of difficulty trying to find the part which looks to be some type of potentiometer. The motor is a Family ™ Electronic Servo Motor Model # FESM-400 400 watt 110 volt 0-3300 rpm used by a variety of companies and has a neels # tag on it p100501q-2057. Any help locating the part would be greatly appreciated. I am sure it is a part that costs a few bucks and I am not about to buy a new motor for $149.00 Radio Shack has no clue as they are not a hobbyist store anymore. and the local electronics parts place closed down years ago which is not surprising as most people do not build their own stuff anymore.
  2. leather workers and users are doing more than most with regards to being green, recycling a byproduct of meat production into useful items that will be around for a long time and ultimately will biodegrade itself, not like all the plastics and such that clog up the landfills.
  3. me too but a drive to idaho for a ticket every time rules out winning

  4. No, I did buy a cig case once for a pattern but did not like it so came up with my own.
  5. I get the plastic cases at a smoke shop remove the lid and use them as an insert in the leather case I form around them. Basically make a paper pattern and fold it around the plastic box sew a second piece on the back to form the belt loop and snap closer flap.
  6. Clinton, Ut. here, welcome and enjoy!
  7. It seems to have worked ok. the last part of the article has leather info. Jordan
  8. I have had this pdf on my hard drive for a couple of years at least and I do not think the author would mind if I post it as an attachment. If he does then I or a moderator can remove it it is a fairly good sized file so hopefully it will upload ok. it is 2.42mb. Jordan seats-26.pdf
  9. Welcome to the forum, from another motorcycle rider/shade tree mechanic and leather worker. You are off to a great start! I have actually been riding my BMW K1200RS more than working with leather lately. When ever the weather cooperates. The 73cb500f is a current project and the wristbands were from awhile back, I am currently working on a bible cover for my pastor and a seat cover for the honda. Jordan
  10. Each one progresses or builds on the other loosely, delving into more advanced techniques as they go along. I found all three worth it. I did wait until they were on sale so I got 3 for the price of about 2. Jordan
  11. Great bracer as usual Tom, soon everyone in Sweden will be sporting your work! Jordan
  12. Interesting idea but control would be a steep learning curve I think. For handicapped it would seem to be difficult to use. Could a modified foot treadle and an arbor press be utilized for better control in both placement and down pressure of the stamping tools? especially for someone that can use only one hand.
  13. welcome and nice work. I see you have picked up on the fact that you will never have enough tools. One can never have too many, it's the bane of the leather addiction. LOL Jordan
  14. Welcome to the site, please don't feel slighted, it is a wonderful place with lots of real nice people. Not to mention the treasure trove of leather working knowledge. Enjoy and don't hesitate to post lot's of pictures of your work. Jordan
  15. Just revisiting this and something just popped in my head that gave me a chuckle, as Joni Mitchell said on miles of isles "Nobody said to Rembrandt Paint a starry night again man!"

  18. A piece of burlap or denim material rather than a burnisher, one side then the other while lying on a flat surface like a marble slab has worked for me.
  19. I am in Clinton about 2 miles west of hill afb

    Oops.

Bunsen burner, alcohol lamp or even a zippo should be sufficient, just beyond warm is all that is needed as far as I can tell. But I am no expert and don't personally use heat. I found that casing and repeated pressure as if burnishing an edge works fine for me. Sorry for your loss.
  23. there is a locked old post in an old sold thread when I bought Ed's Neels model 5 sewing machine that came up with my email address when I did a google search for mtpockets54. could you delete it please. It is probably no big deal but I don't want a search bot to find it and send me a bunch of spam scams thanks, Jordan Name: Jordan L.
