  1. Thanks for the comps you guys. Yeah, I agree with ya on the decorative cuts, but I either need more practice, or more confidence in that area. I just fiqured I'd play it safe having gotten to that point, and not having to throw in the scrap bin. Steve
  2. I've used several different sealers, and they all seem to work pretty good. Pecard Leather Dressing is quite popular with a lot of seat makers right now, although Feibing's Aussie Leather Conditioner w/ Beeswax seams to work just about as well IMO. I've also used Fiebing's Leather balm w/ atom wax. Seems to work ok but I just don't like it as much as the other two because it's not resistant to freezing temps according to the label. Steve
  3. Thanks everyone! Tom, I googled " the reaper" and 75% of the images that come up were that design. I thought it was pretty cool & thought it was only fitting that it went on an ironhead sportster. I'm sure it's being used by hundreds if not thousands of tattoo artists worldwide, and I don't think it would be out of line to put it on yer seat either. So, go for it if ya like it. Steve
  4. I did this a couple of weeks ago. My son, & I both have old ironheads.
  5. Regular will do. How much to buy depends on how thick you want, and the dimensions of your seats.
  6. The background was done with TLFs foilage tools E294 series. The orange color is a mixture of 8 parts neetfoots oil & 1 part Fiebings saddletan oil dye. Steve
  7. Try these guys. http://www.brooklynbuttbuffer.com/ or these guys. http://stores.ebay.com/Kno-Place-Upholstery-Co There's a lot of suppliers of gel pads out there. Just gotta huntem down. But I've used both these guys before. Steve
  8. For comfort I use at 1" of closed cell neoprene foam with gel pad insert. I start out with at least 1/2" on the bottom. Then I take another layer of 1/2" and cut out a hole to near exact dimensions of the gel pad I am inserting. I make sure that there is at least 1" of neoprene at the perimeter of the gel pad for support. Then I glue the neoprene sheets together, with 3M super 77, making sure the hole is centered. Then stick in the gel pad making sure that glue is in contact where the gel pad meets the neoprene. After shaping the foam I cover the whole thing with with another layer of 1/8" neoprene to seal it all in, and hide any undesirable seam exposures. After about 300-500 miles the seat will be broke in nicely and will be conformed to your non existing butt. I hope this helps ya out. It sure did help my butt, and my customers who ride rigids say the same. Steve
  9. Barry King & Robert Beard both make steep bevelers. outcast
  10. I remember that seat too! Incredible tooling Dave. Steve
  11. Hey ya all, thanx for the compliments! Just carved with an AS swivel knive & tooled with some RB bevelers, then backgrounded with some of TLFs foilage stamps. Steve
  12. Even though I haven't had a drink in over ten years, I know someone still who does. Oh yeah, I know all about the logo patent thing, and I don't care. outcast
  13. Thanx, that means alot comin from other seat makers. Steve
  14. I didn't get any pics of the inside, but it was an insert from TLF. The tooling leather came off the belly of a 4-5 oz. hide from thier new "Royal Meadow" line of leather which is supposed to be europeon tanned in England, and I lined it with 2 oz. pigskin. Steve
  15. Here's Gus holding his trophy next to his panhead chopper. His shop is full of customer bikes along with 7 of his own, and 10 feet of snow outside, so I really couldn't get a better pic of the bike.
  16. I did this a couple of years ago for a friend of mine. He entered the bike in a show at Birch Run and took first place in the vintage chopper division.
  17. Thanx! All those skulls took too much time to do. I'm old, and slow I guess.
  18. Very cool. I really dig it. The contrasting colors make it stand out. Steve
  19. Last time I was at walmart I noticed that they sell tracing vellum also. I use shelf contact paper from walmart for the back of my projects too. Easy to use.
  20. Excellent job. Tooling, color, fitment...all well done! outcast
