  1. Eryk- I think I saw some of your work at the IFoLG show submitted as a member of the Georgia Leathercrafters Guild. That guild is near and dear to my heart. Welcome to LW! Help yourself to the coffee and cookies, and tell Jimmy, Horace and Woody and everyone else "Hi!" for me next time you see them! Johanna
  2. I asked Bob Stelmack, editor of the monthly PSLAC newsletter, to add a banner to the newsletter as a member/sponsor, and he surprised me with such an informative introduction of our site. But then, Bob has always been great to work with. If you are not a member of PSLAC, consider it. Bob and crew have been archiving valuable leather info for years, and you can download it with an internet membership. PSLAC has an active schedule of workshops and get-togethers, and some sister guilds to play with, and it's the Rawhide Gazette, Bob's newletter, packed with pics and info, that is fun to read. You can click the link at the bottom of every page on the forum to go to PSLAC's site. LW is pleased to welcome PSLAC members here- feel free to use the chat room in a public or private room for any leather talking you want to do. Glad to have you all here! And thanks for all the kind words about LW, Bob. Johanna
  3. Do you want a rounded one or the french cut? I have some extras, PM me with shipping details. ~J
  4. Hey, Americans, don't forget to turn your clocks back an hour tonight. You folks in other countries of the world- do you do Daylight Savings Time in your country? Does it work like ours? Tomorrow morning, half the congregation will get to church an hour early. Johanna
  5. I don't think you want an IPB board. The real board looks and acts a little different. This one is pretty heavily modified. There is an annual fee to use it, plus you have to buy a license. Setting up an IPB board is a little more complicated than a SMF. Setting up a vBulletin board is kinda like pushing bamboo shoots under your fingernails, and they cost money, too. You need a host with a control panel that allows you to have a mySQL database no matter which option you choose. LW does inexpensive full cPanel hosting to offset costs, so let me know if you need webspace. You need to be able to CHMOD so you'll need an FTP client like CuteFTP or Filezilla. If you need a domain name, I can register them for less than $10 a year. There is a free version of this style board "invisionfree" but it lacks a lot of the features, and has some security issues. There are also free boards that force your viewers to see their ads. I've never tried them, so I don't know how stable they are, or what it takes to set them up. I have done two SMF boards, and the last one took less than an hour to put together. The vBull board has just as many options and features as an IPB, but it always seems like you have to "go the long way around the barn" in the ACP. That's just my opinion, YMMV. Johanna
  6. If you want a forum, use simple machines forum It's easy to set up and maintain, and free. If you want to blog, try blogger. ~J
  7. I'm seeing the site just fine here. Sometimes new sites need 48 hours to get around the world DNS. Looking good, JW! Johanna
  8. I wrote a note to Cheryl and Dave and offered them any assistance LW could provide shortly after I read this first post. I haven't heard back either. I have collected quite a few pics of Robb's work, but I don't want to use them w/o permission from his sister. LW would be happy to crosslink and help people find the site they are building in his memory, of course. His art is pretty incredible (look at the show pics for the 2007 show- there was a display of his art there) and he was known for being an excellent instructor. Johanna

  10. A very moving poem. Sorry you lost your dad. {{hugs}} from your friends at LW
  11. That's exactly what it looks like, too! Now I will never be able to look at it without thinking squished kitty, thanks a lot!
  12. 3 in the clip and one in the chamber, has a choke. Model 190. Does that mean anything? ~J
  13. I finally found a bolt action shotgun for Wade, only it's a 16 gauge, not a 20. It has a choke on the end to control the shot spray, and seems to be in good condition. Anybody know anything about this gun, what's a reasonable price and how old is it? I'm not finding much on the net, I guess Mossberg discontinued the bolt action a long time ago? I know there is more gun expertise here than anywhere...don't let me get taken by the dealer! Thanks Johanna
  14. That's what I used, Irfanview. ~J
  15. I can't believe I was so happy to pay only $2.39 today! It seemed like a bargain, and who knows what it will be tomorrow? so I topped off the Dodge tank for less than $50. Whoo-hooo! If it goes down again tomorrow, I may take the Ford to visit the pump. Thank goodness for our 14 year old Honda Civic and its faithful 45 mpg. I love my trucks, but I can hardly afford to drive them. I try to combine errands and coordinate kid pick-ups and drop offs, but in town, the Dodge gets less than 15 MPG and the Ford gets 10 MPG on the highway loaded or not. Ouch ouch and ouch. I'm hoping things settle down after the election. Johanna
  16. The links are working fine here.
  17. Take a scrap piece, wet it, and give it a try. If it's vegetable tanned leather, it will take an impression. Some of the dyed veggie tans have a lot of wax in them and they do not tool well, but they will stamp some. If it's not vegatable tanned leather, you won't be able to tool it. Perhaps some conchos would spark it up? Johanna
  18. to all you new folks from FetLife! Post here or send me a PM (Private Message) for access to the adult area NSFW of the board. We're glad to have all of you, and you're going to love making your own stuff, if you aren't doing it already. If you are doing your own designs, you may enjoy looking at what other people are doing, and how you may want to try things in the future. Just let me know you want in, and I'll add you. Help yourself to the coffee over there, and the restrooms are down the hall. (Thanks Drac for issuing the invitations!) Johanna
  19. Refurbs from reputable companies are fine. Most have at least a one-year warranty. If you have the Office disks, you can install older versions of Office on Vista. XP is a stable extablished operating system, but Vista is more fun to use. If you get Vista, get as much memory as possible (2 gigs minimum). If you get XP, try to get the XP disk with the machine in case you need to do a reinstall. Vista has 6 different flavors, but most pre-installed systems have a recovery partition. Make a bootable recovery disk with that the first day you have the computer. Someday, you may thank yourself. Johanna
  20. BobBasset with a Russian email addy joined last night. C'mon guys, post and introduce yourselves! We'd love to hear where you get your ideas and how you do your art. Johanna
  21. Got my Tandy package this morning- whoo-hoo- I am off to the shop to make something! I don't know what yet, but I have things i can use to cut again, right Clay? Even more exciting is that two of Clay's daughters and one of his sons are turning 4 tomorrow. Happy happy happy happy birthday to all of you, and may your house never be interrupted with a dull moment! Johanna
  22. It was his shop, with his name on the door. He presented himself as a businessman. Some of us have gotten too casual and give stuff away before we sell it at a fair price, then we're out of business, and back to our day jobs. Steve's grandfather knew he had to earn and keep his customer's respect, or he'd be out of business. He was a very handsome man. Look how full his windows are- he did a fair amount of business, I would say! Thanks for sharing. Johanna
  23. Isn't it wonderful getting up in the morning and going to work at something you love to do? Some of us have been very lucky to have that. My ten year old daughter sayus, "Mom, why do I have to go to school?" So that you have choices, honey. If you want to be a photographer or brain surgeon or leatherworker, I want you to be happy with what you do. Welcome to LW! Glad to have you here! Help yourself to the coffee and cookies, and make yourself at home. Johanna PS I've always admired Cliff Ketchum's work. What a mentor!
