Correct Stitching With Diamondshape Prickingiron
Redochre replied to Martha Koenig's topic in How Do I Do That?
That sounds like the the thread is too small for the hole. If you are using the correct size thread for the stitching punch then its possible the punch could be leaving the leather at an angle so its creating a larger than it is designed to make. Could you possibly give us a few more details please? Such as thread type, needle size, which stitch punch you are using & what size that punch is. Thank you, Andy. -

Has Anyone Tried Metropolitan Leather?
Redochre replied to Redochre's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Hi Joe. I agree, the smell of natural veg tan is the greatest smell on this planet. The shoulder I have is dark tan & full aniline.... It smells very chemically almost plastic like. I've let it air for a few days & it smells less now. -
Again thank you everyone for your great advice,I would like to add quotes and reply but I'm using a tablet & it will get stroppy if I try. *UPDATE* Etsy have told the customer to send photographic proof that the wallet differs from the description. Considering the photos of the trifold are of the actual wallet that was sent she would be really pulling miracles if she managed that. A note about pricing.... I charged what I thought my quality of craftsmanship is worth & I had the leather for a good price.

Has Anyone Tried Metropolitan Leather?

The shoulder has arrived. It's a beautiful piece of leather but smells horrible.... Is this normal for high end veg tan? -
Has anyone tried using a Facebook competition for promotion? For example "like & share for a chance to win the product in the photo"

That's good to know. Do you use any other supplier? -
I hear what your saying studio. Paypal & fleabay are great if your customer but awful if you're a vendor. They pretty much can do what they want, they have no real competition. Basically they run a monopoly .

I'm looking for a new uk leather supplier, I'm tired of over paying for substandard hides on eBay &leprevo are.....well leprevo. Good old Nigel Armitage recommended metropolitan leather , has anyone else tried them? I've spoken to them on the phone & seem professional. Just £122 for a shoulder is a lot for me. That is a ddelivered to your door price though with vat added.

Thank you everyone for your replies. You all have valid points for both sides of the argument. Things have escalated slightly, she has opened a case & is calling me nuts, crazy, insane & mad as a hatter. She is really trying to make things personal now... I'm guessing its an attempt to anger me & make me say something stupid. I've reported her to Etsy & they said they are going to investigate her practices. There is no way I'm going to bend over now & refund her. I know my product is sound, she is being nasty for the sake of it. As far as I'm concerned the wallet is now used because its had her husband's business & credit cards in it. I also feel this isn't the first time she's tried something like this, she's got away with it before so she's trying it again. Lessons learned from this? 1. Low prices benefit no one. Its time to get the best leather I can't afford & charge more for my products. 2. Update my shop policies ASAP. 3. Leather worker is great resource.

Hi there. I sold a wallet on etsy a few weeks back & I was a little suspicious because the address listed was a trading address in an industrial estate but I went along with it because a sale is a sale. After the wallet arrived I had a less than polite message saying that there was not enough pockets & they had been sewn too tightly, claiming she couldn't get the cards in. I pointed out that I state how many pockets there are, that the pockets would be slightly tight but will stretch with use & that the last picture on the listing was of the wallet with cards in it. After that she said it was her husband who wanted more pockets & she changed her story to instead of being unable to insert cards she now finds them too difficult to get out. At this point she was demanding a refund. I contacted etsy because I found the whole thing suspicious & they said to go with my instincts & they would back me. She has now threatened me with a negative review against my shop. Which is blackmail & slander. There is no way I'm willing to tolerate that. If I had made a mistake then I would gladly refund, instantly, Id even refund or exchange if she simply changed her mind. I just don't understand the rudeness & the lies. This is only my 4th sale & I'm very disheartened by it. Apolagies if my typing is poor, I'm using phone & the keypad is glitchy. I would love any feedback or advise please. Andy.

Hi guys. I bought a half hide from a reenactment fair over the weekend & I'm not sure what it is. It has "new finish fireman boot leather" written on it. Any ideas if its veg tan or if its even cow? Is there a standard for fireman boots? I can tell you its black, been refinished, approx 3mm thick, stitches well but refuses to burnish. I've spent ages on a test piece & it just refuses to take an edge. Sadly I can't upload a photo with my tablet.

Embossed Card Wallet
Redochre replied to JoeSnuffie's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
That's beautiful! -
Excellent post..... Does leatherworker have a thank you button?

Its what happened to the very first wallet I ever made. The slots were made from pigskin which in hindsight was a mistake. I will now however eat humble pie & be quiet.
-
I would also like to point out that what you're offering for free a lot of people charge for. Hopefully people will be more grateful.

24 Downloads & only 2 thanks? That's not right.. Thank you for sharing sir, that's a nice design. My only concern would be the stitching on the inner slot making an impression on the outer slot & the constant friction from card use.

I Had My Order & I Was Bid Up! On The Price!
Redochre replied to Redochre's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I think its a beautifuly magic thing that someone would do that. -
Had my first order, sent photos of progress & the customer said I'm charging to little & refuses to pay the original price. He is in insisting on paying more. I find myself more excited at getting my first order over the extra cash though. This pleases me greatley =D *happy dance*

Thank you for the downlaod sir! Naturally stupid noob questions.... Will the hardness of water effect the quality of tooling? Will really hard water that can leave limescale immediately have a detrimental effect on leather? Thank you, And.

I think .22 would be a great zombie gun. As st8 line said, you can carry a fair amount of ammo, the gun is lighter, easier to shoot, quieter & smaller. Some hollow points & you'll be blowing zombie brains everywhere. Don't forget caliber an m4 is barely bigger than a .22. I think having kickarse leather gear to go with it helps.
