    Just another strap

Thanx Luke. It probably took the better part of a day to tool out...an hour or so for dye, and edging.
  2. Finished this up today. It's one I started a couple months back, but just did about 8". It just never struck me right. My wife really liked it, and kept mentioning it. I finally had to finish it. I don't have a supply of needles yet, so I think the needle in the machine was to big for this weight (7-8). On a drunken night, my handstitching would look better than that..oh well. Saddle tan base, leather balm, and then ant. black.
  3. Looks good from here! I like the doublebox stitch on the loop.
  4. Nice job Luke! I can't decide which of the two big ones I like best!
  5. That's a good looking set Grunt! You need to make something like a carpenter's hammerhock for the tommy, maybe with a tie down braided on the end to strap the handle to the leg.
  6. Way back when I was going to go to the Oklahoma Boot and Saddle School...probably defunct now. I never followed thru. Here's a few links to keep the fire going: http://customcowboybootsandshoesforum.com/...s.cgi?pg=topics http://www.thehcc.org/ http://www.bootmaker.com/
  7. Kevin, if you aren't on the right path, none of us are. Welcome to the forum!
  8. I did come across this one day. I've not investigated further, but it sure looked interesting... http://chaylor.com/new_calf_veg-tan_liners.htm
  9. Good job Jordan! Tight squeeze for a basketweave, but you made it work. That barrette says you really are an ol hippy...lol
  10. Thanks boomstick...that's good advice, and that drawing is exactly what I need to see the problems. Most if not all of this goes into Beta1
  11. Hey, Hey!, I resemble that remark...lol Thanx for the complement, but we'll see how the prototype moves into beta. Hopefully we'll get a few remarks here to help improve it.
  12. Wow, thanx for that lesson. I haven't had the need to do this arc style, but now that I have seen it, I'll have to come up with something to put it on. I'm actually more impressed with the ropework...lol. I can't keep that simple stamp going straight for too long. I'll have to practice it more. Thanks for all you do.
  13. Back in the old days, I made quite a few western style holsters, mostly Tandy, Stohlman type. But being originally from Massachusetts, the firearms laws kept ownership down, therefore the trade too. Collectibles and such were still around, so they wanted those type of holster. Now I'm in NC, and IS IT DIFFERENT!. Like the cobbler with no shoes, I don't have a carry holster for my P95, so....... I made this prototype just to see. I'm a scrawny old man, and anything above derringer shows on me. I figgered the semipancake was what I might try. I wanted a slight cant to try and keep the butt more in line with my body, and thought riding a bit high might fit it into my waist. A slight curl to the mold also brings the butt end in closer. I think that part works so far. I used 35 year old belt leather that cracks when you bend it...but it was just a TEST. The stitching is awful, I just whipped past that part, intent on making a pattern piece..I even went off the edge ! But this is meant to be broken back down...so it's all good. On the "pancake" side, I have to redesign that a bit more, slim it down a bit, reposition the slot more inside. I made a welt, but I should have made it one more layer thick, and skived it better in both directions. I stitched down the middle of the welt, but next time, I'll stitch closer to the inside edge to keep the holster tighter to the welt. Before I rip it apart, I thought all of you might chime in. Tell me the wrongs and the wherefores...what you do , and so forth. SUGGESTIONS DESIRED! It's a beautiful day here, so I'll be outside with the shop door open, and enjoying. I'll check in everytime I get coffee (about every half hour...lol).
  14. I was surfing last night, and saw this article from 2002. I thought it might be of interest here, especially the income talk and predictions. The numbers were vague, but what do you expect from a deadline journalist...lol Interesting links for those in the LA area. Don't know what still exists. Just thought somebody might want to talk about it. http://www.latimes.com/classified/jobs/cou...72914.htmlstory
  15. I'm here in NC, and I don't know of any near me, not to say there aren't...just saying I did find one (english saddles) in Pinehurst: David Stockhouse http://www.manta.com/coms2/dnbcompany_8pvttm and one registered with the american saddle (ASMA): David Stox 3843 N Hills Drive Ayden, NC 28513 1-252-746-2134
  16. Good clean work Jim. Nice job. Nice solid color, no streaks...

    keyhole(?) Punch

I should have left a link: http://www.eleatherworks.com/product.php?p...at=0&page=1 not sure how long they are, but call and ask is all... PS: Imagine calling anyone on earth besides a leatherworker, and saying..."how long is your Pippin Punch!"

    keyhole(?) Punch

They are called Pippin Punches, and they generally come in two sizes (the holes part, not the length. If you find one about an inch long that will do fine for straps, but your rotary punch and knife work just fine too.
  19. I want a Saddle, and a Couch, and a pair of boots, and a my truck reupholstered, a full buscadero, ...lol Just for the record so far... we are going by the list. the name after our own is the receiver. This starts Friday? We have 30 days to ship. Add a dollar sign if you are willing to ship overseas. (ADD a dollar sign for me) Personally, I would just like something as simple as a keyfob, as long as it's in YOUR style, and SIGNED. The treasure is the gifting, not the gift.
  20. It's just a machine Grunt... I'll bet you bought all kinds at Home Depot and Sears, and You didn't know how to run them!! You start off simple...practice pieces - straight stitches, and pretty soon you're turning corners, and backstitching.
  21. I don't have any patterns rayban but this search shows a lot of examples.... http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&amp...G=Google+Search
  22. Thanx guys. I knew you'ld get it! Yep, Spider, random is the operative word. PS. you'll need the ACME Belt Stretcher to lengthen those belts.
  23. This guy came up with a way to attach a small trailer to his Vulcan motorcycle. Then he started to cover the platform in a black vinyl, with spots. He put his sissyback on the trailer. Then he figgers he'ld rather have somebody else do the rest....lucky me. He wanted the fenders and the tow bar wrapped and spotted. Now I'm no upholsterer, but I said sure... So he gives me some vinyl, and drives off. I took the fenders off, and went into the shop. After calculating what I needed I cut the vinyl. Good thing I figgered right cause there was just barely enough to do the job. With a can of liner spray adhesive, a rule, scissors, and spots I became an upholsterer this morning. I never did this, but for some reason a little tuck and roll at each corner worked, and about 4 hrs later, I was done. He's the President of the local Antique car guys, so I figgered if it looked alright when I was done, it might just bring a little more business in...there must be thousands of guys who want to wrap their motorcycle trailer fenders in leather or vinyl....lol Anywho, for the picture starved in all of us, here it is....
