a little western floral and saddle stitching
rdb replied to Roger's topic in Motorcycles and Biker Gear
Nice!!! I like the stitched edge with it, instead of a braid. Makes it look real sharp.... -
Customer came and picked 'em up. She told me that she searched everywhere for this kind of bag, from shops to Mfgs, with no luck. So, when she heard some guy made leather stuff, she tried one more time with me. She calls it "All tanned out", and that's what she wanted. The easy brackets were okay to work with, but the light relocation was a pain. For the money they charge, a couple extra washers, and a few wiring extras wouldn't break the bank. I'm gonna write them. Anyways, here's the final pix of the bags on the bike..her hubby's driving....

I don't think it's the new version Jordan, that caused the problem. It's pretty much every version. They all do the same thing. Only very basic systems can take the linux upgrade well. The standard truly recommended way to go to the latest version is a clean install. The key is to have the install in it's own partition, and keep home, etc on their own. That way, you can do clean new installs, and not have to worry about setting up all your mail, etc. I have Ubuntu studio on mine, and even the upgrades won't take at all. They just aren't synched together well. I'm torn about leaving Studio to upgrade to Heron, but I downloaded it last night, and will probably be forced to go to Heron, just because I have it....LOL. Can't leave well enough alone!. If you go to the Ubuntu forums today, I'm sure there will be a ton of upgrade errors reported, and you'll probably find a fix for specific problems you are having..: http://ubuntuforums.org/

Latest Custom Belt out the door.
rdb replied to Grunt's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Nice job!...Well executed. No dye on the backside edge...you have a steady hand. I hope you sell many more. -
okay here is a small comparison. In this picture, I have edge dyed one part with black oil dye , burnished it with beeswax, and a topcoat of leather balm. not bad... On the other side, was ONE coat of Zacks (maybe LCI) ..bright and shiny, and would easily fill in with two coats. No burnish, no topcoat. Pretty good stuff.

Sure are pretty little things. Thanx for sharing those pics.

Alright, I just spent an hour talking here, time to get back to work. I've reset my skype to contacts only. Just skype "meagert" on skype, and it will ask me if I want to add you to my contact list. If you have web cams, it's all that much better. Remember during the work day to have a little fun!
-
Okay, called Easy Brackets using skype,. they tell me they shipped, and I should be getting it tomorrow...woohoo! Those saddlebags are going on this weekend. What a relief. The customer's big trip/rally is on Wednesday...shipment none too soon. I had visions of 5am install before their ride... Ed, you are listed on skype as esantoro, but apparently you ain't online yet. I'm calling an early lunch here to play with this, so any takers, here we are.
-
okay. for the next hour or so, I've opened up my skype to everyone...sheesh, this could be dangerous...lol. After we're done playing, for privacy, etc, I'm turning just contact list back on. So swap IDs for contact lists, and we should be good to go. I've got to make a suppliers call at 11am here so after that I'm open.

I've been using free Skype a long while. I talk to my family up North all the time. I get to see all the new young folk coming up, and see how old we all really are...lol. The video is good sometimes. Sometimes it's grainy, and locks up..just a matter of the backwards bandwidth here in the USA...number 1, my ass. But all, and all, it's real nice to see people in person. And you can conference in up to 9 people. That could be fun for us...imagine seeing and hearing us together. Saddlers talking to saddlers, bike makers, etc. Since I started up as a business again, I even signed up for their small subscription pay package (like $3 a month). It gives me free calls from my computer to any land line or cellphone, which I can't get from my local phone service. It actally saves me about $20 a month with this. I just make the calls from my computer, talk over my microphone, and listen through my speakers. It sounds better than speaker phone on the the land line. With a little firefox extension, it adds phone numbers online into a link that starts calling them through skype. One click and I'm talking to that phone number Anyways, just checking in with this thought. And, if anyone wants to try conferencing in sometime, let us know. Links: http://www.skype.com search "meagert" on skype for me, but I have it limited to friends in my contact list. if you wanted to be added to my list, let me know by PM

Colt 22 SAA dual rig
rdb replied to $$hobby's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Looks real good there hobby. Looks like it was made for them 22s. I'll bet it took a long time to sew those bullet loops. -
Sorry to hear about your problems, but I want to stick up for Zack White's too. I live near them, and do a lot of business there. I haven't used their mail order, but one thing I have learned in dealing with ANY of the suppliers is to CALL. Call the order in, Call when it's late, etc. don't wait until the order has arrived, and you're mad. We are all in this together, makers, and suppliers. there are fewer and fewer sources for us, we need them all to stay in business. There is only 5 people who work at Zack's...two ladies, two boys, and Tim. That's not a whole pecking order to get to someone who can help. I've said before on this board, because I'm so close, anyone can ask me to check things out there for them, and i'll be glad to do it. I go about every 1-2 weeks.

They keep getting better and better!

New Twist on a Key Fob From Scrap
rdb replied to Jordan's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Run, do not walk, to your local diemaker, and get a cutter for these. Most of the time is probably cutting these out. I vote for 8-10 dollars apiece -
Well, here's the full set, tool bag, tail bag, and saddlebags. I still have some polishing up to do, and rivet the corners, but that's about it. Wish I could do it all over again....

I've sold a few pieces on Etsy. It's kind of neat. As a matter of fact, I was hoping I had the place all to myself...lol. It's quite user friendly, and the people are nice, like here. There is a big "Green" factor going on there, with recycled leather being a hot item There is a big social networking aspect to it, also, but I haven't participated too much on that part. Between this forum and other sites like etsy, you could spend all day on the computer instead of working in the shop...lol. But I would be interested in hearing more about her group. I really do want to avoid sites like ebay, and amazon. Someday leatherworker.net might get recognized as THE source for leatherworking, and sales can be made through here. I do need to take better pictures for etsy, when I do show good pix, it gets a good response. Maybe after my big projects, I'll pay attention. shhhhh!

Thanx Sawyer. Like I said, no real pattern. I measured 14" across, matched the angle to the shocks, and measured the height I had to the muffler. Just make a Parallelogram with 14" top and bottom, and 18" sides. The sides I cut 6"or so, and 50" long (couple inches extra so as not to run out of gusset Thanx Ian!). The hard part was shaping the top flap, but you can work it out with paper, after the body of the bag is assembled. In order to use the Easy Brackets on a Dyna, , you will also have to purchase a relocation kit for the turn signals. You need the hole where the blinkers are positioned, so you have to move them back to the license plate. Dave at Easy Brackets is good to talk to, when you need advice.

Thanx Tom. Yeh I planned to photo the whole set when it's done later in the week. The stainless steel spots look good on natural, I agree, but I wished they would make the spots with a chicago screw. There would be less snag issues down the line, plus the center hole instead of the little prong holes that show if you don't get them just right.

I've had enough cut and paste for one day...thank you very much....lol. Now if someone would only gallerize all the photos on the forum...now that, would be good!
