  1. Darren, Constabulary, Thanks for the tap information. I'm going to talk to Bob Kovar about it.
  2. Constabulary, Looks fine to me. Thank you for the blow-by-blow details of the restoration, they're very helpful. I noticed the thread tap in the second picture, do you have a set of "Singer" taps?
  3. You're very welcome good people. Thanks for the kind comments. Does anyone recognize that machine in image 3143? Whatever it is it's big.. I'll ask my sister to get a better picture.
  4. While visiting Los Angeles, Ca., over the holidays, my sister took me to a clothing store that was using antique sewing machines in their windows and about their store as fixtures. The store is one belonging to Allsaints Co., Ltd., of London. The window has 340 sewing machines in it ---- 34 columns wide, 10 machines per column, plus there are approx. 45-50 elsewhere. I thought it was clever as well as unusual. Is that huge long arm thing in image 3143 a sewing machine?
  5. Kidbeey, Thanks a lot for posting that link. I think it's a terrific article. It sure clears up a great deal of the mystery about the two machines I'm restoring.
  6. Frankqv, Your machine sure is looking fine to me. Can't believe how fast you're moving with it. If you get a chance, would you post some of the kids projects? I'm still trying to get the Singer parts and fasteners for my K25 before the tear down. It's sewing well though. LW member Darren Brosowski found a bobbin winder for me, and Constabulary put me on to a material guide. Still need the oil box Did you take it to bare metal before painting it? What paint did you use? Have a great Holiday.
  7. Cleanview, Take what I'm saying with a grain of salt, because I don't sew much. If you're trying to relieve the downward pressure on the foot by following those particular printed instruction, I don't believe that's how to do it. Others will know. I believe there's a different adjustment for pressure on the foot. You'll be well informed once you get past this episode.
  8. Hi Frank, Thanks for your interest. My hope is to swap these parts and/or some Adler parts I just acquired for the parts to complete my 45K25. It seems money isn't helping to find the parts it needs, they're so rare I'm planning to use the guide mount for my K25, if I can find the SS30 screw and the guide to complete it. What parts do you have to exchange? I need the Singer 91797 oil box, a 91329 throat plate, an 86135 material guide, the SS30 guide screw, the 91218 guide lever, an SS395 oil box stud, an 85532 right presser foot or equal, maybe a machine mounted Singer bobbin winder, a couple of Singer 95093 bobbins and various Singer screws. If I'm unsuccessful swapping for what I need, and you still need the parts, I'll offer them to you first, that's a promise Thanks Frank
  9. Jimi, That was a lot of effort. I for one appreciate it, and I'm sure others do also. Thank you.
  10. Frank, The small tension split screw stud is marked 413, the two discs are marked 2102. The large split stud is SS317, both discs are marked 82447 and the pulley wheel is marked 82448. The 91576 feed dog has 13 teeth and the 91422 is identical and has 8 teeth that are a bit deeper, apparently for handling heavier material. is the presser bar gripper inside the faceplate or on top of faceplate LW member Jimi comments on it's location in this topic a post or two before your #16. I sure would like to see a picture of how it's mounted on a machine. Are you able to direct me to a source for the 45K53 parts manual you're using? The Presser Bar Gripping Bracket is used for the jump foot motion and is located above the top of the face plate where your presser foot tension screw is on your 25.
  11. Hi Jimi, Thanks for shedding light on those parts. I see the Guide Holder Bracket in the picture you're mentioning, that's very helpful. Are you able to refer me to a picture of a machine fitted with the Presser Bar Gripping Bracket? I'm still unclear on it. What are those "SAVE" icons for? Are they supposed to open? Thanks Jimi. Al
  12. Frank, The feed dog part numbers are 91422 and 91576. The are identical except the 91576 has finer teeth than the 91422. From what I've learned, they fit at least the 45K25, 56, 58 and 89 when used with the corresponding needle plate, of course. I still have the tension assemblies, the larger has a piece broken off of the split threaded end but still works properly with the loose piece in place. It should be brazed back on and re-threaded. Please let me know if you would like to know the numbers for any of the other parts. I've been researching their numbers and fitment and plan to post them here and in the Marketplace forum. The only part I haven't been able to identify is the 14554 (made in USA) Shuttle Race. Would you know what machine(s) that fits? Ideally I would like to complete my 45K25 machine, which needs the oil box and a few smaller pieces. The Guide Holder Bracket and the Presser Bar Gripping Bracket are used on a number of different machines, but I still don't know how they're used. Hopefully someone will know.
  13. Muzisch, Recently I was able to purchase a small lot of vintage Singer parts, which I have been trying to identify. So far most of them are for at least the Singer 45K56 and 45K89. A couple of the pieces I was able to use on my 45K25 restoration. Here are some pictures of the parts: I'll post the part numbers with the parts once I figure them out. Here's a link to the 45K56,89 manual I've been using to identify the parts: http://dixiesewingmachine.tzo.com/MANUALS/SINGERPARTS2/45K56,K89.pdf The two parts in the lower left-hand corner of image 3054 may be very significant, they're part of the Guide Holder and Presser Bar Gripping Bracket. You can find them on plates 1075 and 1070 respectively in the parts manual, I have no idea how they're used, maybe others can help If you need any of the parts for your machine, let me know. I need an Oil Box and edge guide to complete my K25.
  14. Frank, thanks for the link. I'll check to see if they have the right foot also
  15. Constabulary, thanks for the information and link. I appreciate it.
  16. I don't know. I'll check. What is a GA5? Thanks Frank
  17. Hi Frankqv, Finding parts for the 45K machines is a challenge for sure. I'm pulling my hair out looking for a right presser foot and other parts for my 45K25. If you're going to make presser feet, would you want some additional work?
  18. Thanks Jimi. A material guide is on my want list. Hopefully I'll come across one somewhere on the planet.
  19. Thanks for the info Jimi, stitches look great to me. I'm amazed at how clean and bright the metal is on your K25. What's the part number of the material guide you're using? Thanks Jimi
  20. Probably not what you need, but here's a parts manual including the 29K13, it may help later. http://dixiesewingmachine.tzo.com/MANUALS/SINGERPARTS1/29K1%20TO%20K4,K10%20TO%20K18,K12%20TO%20K23,K30%20TO%20K33.pdf This instruction manual for the use and servicing of the 29K62 discusses pressure on the material and how to adjust it. http://dixiesewingmachine.tzo.com/MANUALS/SINGERSERVICE/29K62-Inst.pdf
  21. Thanks Colt. I was hoping that was the case. Constabulary agrees with you.
  22. Thank you Constabulary, Jimi. It was somewhat of a shock to see that ring of "glue" in there! Here's a phenomenally well engineered and constructed piece of fine machinery from the 1940's with beautifully machined fasteners, and a piece is held with "glue?" I couldn't accept it. Thanks for setting my anxiety to rest. Jimi, what type and size of thread is in the bobbin in your picture above? Thanks again to you both.
  23. While doing some initial cleaning in the shuttle area, I noticed something rough and brown, like dried molasses, further in. It appeared to be a hard, dried "glue like" material between the 91430 shuttle race ring (not the race, the ring) and the cast iron body of the machine. Is that actually a glue that's supposed to be there, or is it dried oil or some other substance that's not supposed to be there? Thanks in advance.
