Adler 167 Sewing Thin Leather And Extra Foot For Machine
gordond replied to marrie's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
what model number of Adler 167 is it? ..there are a few variants enclosed Brochure shows the model type applications. As Wiz said ..most were used for [high speed]clothing manufacturing [jeans] and upholstery...heavier sort of work. I have a 167-72. Leaflets_Adler_Class_167_part1.pdf -

Modified Embossing Not Making A Strong Impression
gordond replied to jimmy eng's topic in How Do I Do That?
use a cheap H Frame press ..supercheap @AUD$149...[6 ton] case the leather ... use "firmish" rubber under the leather [metal plate ,rubber, leather, metal die, metal plate] not fast; but it will work well ,giving a deep[and lasting ] impression.- 8 replies

Hi Tor [not Trox!!], there aren't many [or any?] needle awl machines here either [just short throat sole stitchers eg/. Landis 12,Pederson's,Gritzner's]. I actually haven't heard of another one here- just like the Singer Class 97 - I think there are 3 x 97's in NZ [naval base, museum and mine] I have a Dania 150 & a Gritzner [on power stands]. thanks.

HI Pcox, thanks for the help in getting the info ...

Hi Trox, very first thing I did ...... emailed last week and no reply .... next step will be getting the timezones right and actually phoning them at cost [or just ask here in the meantime] figure 220 lbs[~100kg] or less...but then could be way wrong. thanks

Hi All, what is the weight of a Campbell Randall stitcher ?[just the head - not the stand]. This a "standard" Campbell [not a high lift or Cyclone] Steve [Australia] gave me quite a good estimate, but I think I need to be absolutely sure as the shipper just might come back at me if I under quote [mainly safe handling besides cost] thanks

one in the 8 machine job lot. the base had a lot of surface rust-has been stripped and rust proofed. the machine head was grimy, but only minimal rust in the usual outer body contact points. awaiting restoration ,need to order the correct colour hammerfinish paint. [mid-green colour is not sold in NZ anymore]© gordondnz2014

This long arm was owned by forum members [Donna, then Al Muckart]. now in my machine stable....no restoration for this one as the machine has some good [NZ] provenance. needs some functional tweaks [nothing major]© gordondnz2014

hi ...here is a posting of what Steve has..forgot that he has this stash ..it is used gear ,but cheaper than new [in terms of the shuttle points ..a number of folks get them repointed with brazing ?bronze or something like that ..just to keep the machine going without spending too much money] http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=49831 ...new stuff is available from Aaron Martin in Canada :hence my quote to the seller of the Pearson #6 on trade me [postage from Aaron M' in Canada is also expensive as they use premium registered post ]

Landis Regular Lock Stitch Wax Thread Sewing Machine
gordond replied to Bruce Evans's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
nice! job, Bruce. I wax the polished steel on my machines....with 85% humidity here, these bits rust real fast without some form of treatment [but oil the in-contact steel components]. Have had in-contact parts nickel electroplated [bed ,needle plates- but is expensive] I'd prefer to put the wax pot back on if it was my machine- just in case I lose it [i'm still cursing losing parts off my Singer 97] -
BUSM HM6 lettering before and after ..

hi Steve... thanks!..the 97 do-over had been on the overdue list for awhile.it will take sometime to complete the missing parts on this machine..the aim first will be to get it to a ready to use state.I am going to build a new stand with a heavy lower flywheel [to up the torque/punching power]. haven't seen here any specific no.6's made for New Zealand or elsewhere..have wondered if there were any made for South Africa ,India or Asia? cheers Gordon -

Restoration work on the Singer 97-6..so far. Aspects of this was to also overhaul the drive train as a routine maintenance exercise and to get a handle on the missing and broken parts. However ; the machine does work quite well. There are a few parts that will have to be made, [lube box, back cover, tensioner overhaul and the missing lower needle guide].....which will be underway with a new stand/rebuild. Now that the volatile paint work is done in the workshop; I can return back to welding mode.© gordondnz2013

sorry I can't vouch for this company, but had considered buying off them sometime ago- but their feedback put me off.And I wanted a machine where I could put in interchangeable typeset : - having the flexibility of changing typeset was a dealmaker for me. this is something you may want to consider.[the amount of personalised items I was asked for did lend to getting a machine with this feature] I have used large production hotprinters many years ago [9+ hour day use printing plastic bags and they were finnicky in their own way...had a guy there just to tune/fix them] I purchased a Kingsley locally [@220V] at a very good price.then purchased a lot of Kingsley hot printer typeset off ebay. I subsequently purchased 2 more hotprinters [Danish made?]locally and I am assured by an electrician that the heating unit is quite easy to repair if they ever need to be[hence not too pricey].But that hasn't been put to the test. this one you are looking at looks cheap, but may be "OK".... however with this gear you get what you pay for and I would definitely want local tech support [and part availability]..but then; the price reflects that?.I just don't get how that this same gear is priced so wildly over ebay[looks like a rort on ebay's commissions with the varied shipping price]

I picked up a Adler 205-64 in a job lot recently. It was jammed stuck solid- I would have placed $ on betting that something was broken inside the machine. I just happened to have some triflow ,removed access panels and dosed the parts inside.but ATF/acetone ,Kroil, and the other brews all work [ATF & brews are much cheaper though] Initially nothing -- then realised the sticking part was the presser foot height mechanism [fine threads rusted solid]..this cleaned up and a redose and away it went. as you said, it will take a bit of feel ,wiggling and listening to where the issue is.
